The Eighth Plague: Locusts

10Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and the hearts of his officials so that I may do these miraculous signs of Mine among them,H3068H559H4872H935H6547H3513H3820H3820H5650H7896H226H7130 2and so that you may tell your son and grandson how severely I dealt with the Egyptians and performed miraculous signs among them, and you will know that I am the LORD."H5608H241H1121H1121H1121H5953H4714H226H7760H3045H3068 3So Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh and told him, "This is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: How long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me? Let My people go, that they may worship Me.H4872H175H935H6547H559H559H3068H430H5680H4970H3985H6031H6440H5971H7971H5647 4But if you refuse to let My people go, then tomorrow I will bring locusts into your territory.H3588H3986H5971H7971H4279H935H697H1366 5They will cover the surface of the land so that no one will be able to see the land. They will eat the remainder left to you that escaped the hail; they will eat every tree you have growing in the fields.H3680H5869H776H3201H7200H776H398H3499H6413H7604H1259H398H6086H6779H7704 6They will fill your houses, all your officials' houses, and the houses of all the Egyptians— something your fathers and ancestors never saw since the time they occupied the land until today." Then he turned and left Pharaoh's presence.H4390H1004H1004H5650H1004H4714H1H1H1H7200H3117H127H3117H6437H3318H6547 7Pharaoh's officials asked him, "How long must this man be a snare to us? Let the men go, so that they may worship the LORD their God. Don't you realize yet that Egypt is devastated?"H6547H5650H559H4170H582H7971H5647H3068H430H3045H2962H4714H6 8So Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh. "Go, worship the LORD your God," Pharaoh said. "But exactly who will be going?"H4872H175H7725H6547H559H3212H5647H3068H430H1980 9Moses replied, "We will go with our young and our old; we will go with our sons and daughters and with our flocks and herds because we must hold the LORD's festival."H4872H559H3212H5288H2205H1121H1323H6629H1241H3212H2282H3068 10He said to them, "May the LORD be with you if I [ever] let you and your families go! Look out— you are planning evil.H559H3068H7971H2945H7200H7451H6440 11No, only the men may go and worship the LORD, for that is what you have been asking for." And they were driven from Pharaoh's presence.H3212H1397H5647H3068H1245H1644H6547H6440 12The LORD then said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt and the locusts will come up over it and eat every plant in the land, everything that the hail left."H3068H559H4872H5186H3027H776H4714H697H5927H776H4714H398H6212H776H1259H7604 13So Moses stretched out his staff over the land of Egypt, and the LORD sent an east wind over the land all that day and through the night. By morning the east wind had brought in the locusts.H4872H5186H4294H776H4714H3068H5090H6921H7307H776H3117H3915H1242H6921H7307H5375H697 14The locusts went up over the entire land of Egypt and settled on the whole territory of Egypt. Never before had there been such a large number of locusts, and there will never be again.H697H5927H776H4714H5117H1366H4714H3966H3515H6440H3651H697H310 15They covered the surface of the whole land so that the land was black, and they consumed all the plants on the ground and all the fruit on the trees that the hail had left. Nothing green was left on the trees or the plants in the field throughout the land of Egypt.H3680H5869H776H776H2821H398H6212H776H6529H6086H1259H3498H3498H3418H6086H6212H7704H776H4714 16Pharaoh urgently sent for Moses and Aaron and said, "I have sinned against the LORD your God and against you.H6547H7121H4872H175H4116H559H2398H3068H430 17Please forgive my sin once more and make an appeal to the LORD your God, so that He will take this death away from me."H5375H2403H6471H6279H3068H430H5493H4194 18Moses left Pharaoh's presence and appealed to the LORD.H3318H6547H6279H3068 19Then the LORD changed the wind to a strong west wind, and it carried off the locusts and blew them into the Red Sea. Not a single locust was left in all the territory of Egypt.H3068H2015H3966H2389H3220H7307H5375H697H8628H5488H3220H7604H259H697H1366H4714 20But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he did not let the Israelites go.H3068H2388H6547H3820H1121H3478H7971

The Ninth Plague: Darkness

21Then the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand toward heaven, and there will be darkness over the land of Egypt, a darkness that can be felt."H3068H559H4872H5186H3027H8064H2822H776H4714H2822H4959 22So Moses stretched out his hand toward heaven, and there was thick darkness throughout the land of Egypt for three days.H4872H5186H3027H8064H653H2822H776H4714H7969H3117 23One person could not see another, and for three days they did not move from where they were. Yet all the Israelites had light where they lived.H7200H376H251H6965H376H7969H3117H1121H3478H216H4186 24Pharaoh summoned Moses and said, "Go, worship the LORD. Even your families may go with you; only your flocks and your herds must stay behind."H6547H7121H4872H559H3212H5647H3068H6629H1241H3322H2945H3212 25Moses responded, "You must also let us have sacrifices and burnt offerings to prepare for the LORD our God.H4872H559H5414H3027H2077H5930H6213H3068H430 26Even our livestock must go with us; not a hoof will be left behind because we will take some of them to worship the LORD our God. We will not know what we will use to worship the LORD until we get there."H4735H3212H6541H7604H3947H5647H3068H430H3045H5647H3068H935 27But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he was unwilling to let them go.H3068H2388H6547H3820H14H7971 28Pharaoh said to him, "Leave me! Make sure you never see my face again, for on the day you see my face, you will die."H6547H559H3212H8104H7200H6440H3254H3117H7200H6440H4191 29"As you've said," Moses replied, "I will never see your face again."H4872H559H1696H3651H7200H6440H3254
