The Passover Lamb

12Now the LORD said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt,H3068H559H4872H175H776H4714H5592"This month shall be the beginning of months for you; it is to be the first month of the year to you.H2320H7218H2320H7223H2320H81413"Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying, 'On the tenth of this month they are each one to take a lamb for themselves, according to their fathers' households, a lamb for each household.H1696H5712H3478H559H6218H2320H3947H376H7716H1004H1H7716H10044'Now if the household is too small for a lamb, then he and his neighbor nearest to his house are to take one according to the number of persons [in them;] according to what each man should eat, you are to divide the lamb.H1004H1961H4591H7716H7934H7138H1004H3947H4373H5315H376H6310H400H3699H77165'Your lamb shall be an unblemished male a year old; you may take it from the sheep or from the goats.H7716H8549H2145H1121H8141H3947H3532H57956'And you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month, then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel is to kill it at twilight.H4931H702H6240H3117H2320H3605H6951H5712H3478H7819H996H61537'Moreover, they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses in which they eat it.H3947H1818H5414H8147H4201H4947H1004H3988'And they shall eat the flesh that [same] night, roasted with fire, and they shall eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.H398H1320H3915H6748H784H4682H4844H3989'Do not eat any of it raw or boiled at all with water, but rather roasted with fire, [both] its head and its legs along with its entrails.H398H4995H1310H1311H4325H6748H784H7218H3767H713010'And you shall not leave any of it over until morning, but whatever is left of it until morning, you shall burn with fire.H3498H1242H3498H1242H8313H78411'Now you shall eat it in this manner: [with] your loins girded, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and you shall eat it in haste— it is the Lord's Passover.H3602H398H4975H2296H5275H7272H4731H3027H398H2649H3068H645312'For I will go through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike down all the first-born in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments— I am the LORD.H5674H776H4714H3915H5221H1060H776H4714H120H929H430H4714H6213H8201H306813'And the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you live; and when I see the blood I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy [you] when I strike the land of Egypt.H1818H226H1004H7200H1818H6452H5063H4889H5221H776H4714

Feast of Unleavened Bread

14'Now this day will be a memorial to you, and you shall celebrate it [as] a feast to the LORD; throughout your generations you are to celebrate it [as] a permanent ordinance.H3117H2146H2287H2282H3068H1755H2287H2708H576915'Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, but on the first day you shall remove leaven from your houses; for whoever eats anything leavened from the first day until the seventh day, that person shall be cut off from Israel.H7651H3117H398H4682H389H7223H3117H7673H7603H1004H398H2557H7223H3117H7637H3117H5315H3772H347816'And on the first day you shall have a holy assembly, and [another] holy assembly on the seventh day; no work at all shall be done on them, except what must be eaten by every person, that alone may be prepared by you.H7223H3117H6944H4744H7637H3117H6944H4744H4399H6213H389H5315H398H621317'You shall also observe the [Feast of] Unleavened Bread, for on this very day I brought your hosts out of the land of Egypt; therefore you shall observe this day throughout your generations as a permanent ordinance.H8104H4682H6106H3117H3318H6635H776H4714H8104H3117H1755H2708H576918'In the first [month,] on the fourteenth day of the month at evening, you shall eat unleavened bread, until the twenty-first day of the month at evening.H7223H6240H702H3117H2320H6153H398H4682H259H6242H3117H2320H615319'Seven days there shall be no leaven found in your houses; for whoever eats what is leavened, that person shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether [he is] an alien or a native of the land.H7651H3117H7603H4672H1004H398H2556H5315H3772H5712H3478H1616H249H77620'You shall not eat anything leavened; in all your dwellings you shall eat unleavened bread.' "H398H2556H4186H398H468221Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel, and said to them, "Go and take for yourselves lambs according to your families, and slay the Passover [lamb.]H4872H7121H2205H3478H559H4900H3947H6629H4940H7819H645322"And you shall take a bunch of hyssop and dip it in the blood which is in the basin, and apply some of the blood that is in the basin to the lintel and the two doorposts; and none of you shall go outside the door of his house until morning.H3947H92H231H2881H1818H5592H5060H4947H8147H4201H1818H5592H376H3318H6607H1004H1242

A Memorial of Redemption

23"For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the LORD will pass over the door and will not allow the destroyer to come in to your houses to smite [you.]H3068H5674H5062H4714H7200H1818H4947H8147H4201H3068H6452H6607H5414H7843H935H1004H506224"And you shall observe this event as an ordinance for you and your children forever.H8104H1697H2706H1121H5704H576925"And it will come about when you enter the land which the LORD will give you, as He has promised, that you shall observe this rite.H935H776H3068H5414H1696H8104H565626"And it will come about when your children will say to you, 'What does this rite mean to you?'H1121H559H565627that you shall say, 'It is a Passover sacrifice to the LORD who passed over the houses of the sons of Israel in Egypt when He smote the Egyptians, but spared our homes.' "And the people bowed low and worshiped.H559H2077H3068H6453H6452H1004H1121H3478H4714H5062H4714H5337H1004H5971H6915H781228Then the sons of Israel went and did [so;] just as the LORD had commanded Moses and Aaron, so they did.H1121H3478H3212H6213H3068H6680H4872H175H621329Now it came about at midnight that the LORD struck all the first-born in the land of Egypt, from the first-born of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the first-born of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the first-born of cattle.H2677H3915H3068H5221H1060H776H4714H1060H6547H3427H3678H1060H7628H1004H953H1060H92930And Pharaoh arose in the night, he and all his servants and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt, for there was no home where there was not someone dead.H6547H6965H3915H5650H4714H1419H6818H4714H1004H419131Then he called for Moses and Aaron at night and said, "Rise up, get out from among my people, both you and the sons of Israel; and go, worship the LORD, as you have said.H7121H4872H175H3915H559H6965H3318H8432H5971H1121H3478H3212H5647H3068H169632"Take both your flocks and your herds, as you have said, and go, and bless me also."H3947H6629H1241H1696H3212H1288

Exodus of Israel

33And the Egyptians urged the people, to send them out of the land in haste, for they said, "We shall all be dead."H4714H2388H5971H7971H776H4116H559H419134So the people took their dough before it was leavened, [with] their kneading bowls bound up in the clothes on their shoulders.H5971H5375H1217H2556H4863H6887H8071H792635Now the sons of Israel had done according to the word of Moses, for they had requested from the Egyptians articles of silver and articles of gold, and clothing;H1121H3478H6213H1697H4872H7592H4714H3627H3701H3627H2091H807136and the LORD had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they let them have their request. Thus they plundered the Egyptians.H3068H5414H5971H2580H5869H4714H7592H5337H471437Now the sons of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, aside from children.H1121H3478H5265H7486H5523H8337H3967H505H7273H1397H905H294538And a mixed multitude also went up with them, along with flocks and herds, a very large number of livestock.H6154H7227H5927H6629H1241H3966H3515H473539And they baked the dough which they had brought out of Egypt into cakes of unleavened bread. For it had not become leavened, since they were driven out of Egypt and could not delay, nor had they prepared any provisions for themselves.H644H4682H5692H1217H3318H4714H2556H1644H4714H3201H4102H6213H672040Now the time that the sons of Israel lived in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years.H4186H1121H3478H3427H4714H702H3967H8141H7970H814141And it came about at the end of four hundred and thirty years, to the very day, that all the hosts of the LORD went out from the land of Egypt.H7093H702H3967H8141H7970H8141H6106H3117H6635H3068H3318H776H4714

Ordinance of the Passover

42It is a night to be observed for the LORD for having brought them out from the land of Egypt; this night is for the LORD, to be observed by all the sons of Israel throughout their generations.H3915H8107H3068H3318H776H4714H3915H3068H8107H1121H3478H175543And the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "This is the ordinance of the Passover: no foreigner is to eat of it;H3068H559H4872H175H2708H6453H1121H5236H39844but every man's slave purchased with money, after you have circumcised him, then he may eat of it.H376H5650H4736H3701H4135H39845"A sojourner or a hired servant shall not eat of it.H8453H7916H39846"It is to be eaten in a single house; you are not to bring forth any of the flesh outside of the house, nor are you to break any bone of it.H259H1004H398H3318H1320H2351H1004H7665H610647"All the congregation of Israel are to celebrate this.H5712H3478H621348"But if a stranger sojourns with you, and celebrates the Passover to the LORD, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near to celebrate it; and he shall be like a native of the land. But no uncircumcised person may eat of it.H1616H1481H6213H6453H3068H2145H4135H7126H6213H249H776H6189H39849"The same law shall apply to the native as to the stranger who sojourns among you."H259H8451H249H1616H1481H843250Then all the sons of Israel did [so;] they did just as the LORD had commanded Moses and Aaron.H6213H1121H3478H3068H6680H4872H175H621351And it came about on that same day that the LORD brought the sons of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their hosts.H6106H3117H3068H3318H1121H3478H776H4714H6635
