21Now the LORD was gracious to Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did for Sarah what he had promised.H3068H6485H8283H559H3068H6213H8283H16962Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him.H8283H2029H3205H85H1121H2208H4150H430H16963Abraham gave the name Isaac to the son Sarah bore him.H85H7121H8034H1121H3205H8283H3205H33274When his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him, as God commanded him.H85H4135H1121H3327H8083H3117H1121H430H66805Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.H85H3967H8141H1121H1121H3327H32056Sarah said, "God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me."H8283H559H430H6213H6712H8085H67117And she added, "Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age."H559H4448H85H8283H1121H3243H3205H1121H2208

Hagar and Ishmael Sent Away

8The child grew and was weaned, and on the day Isaac was weaned Abraham held a great feast.H3206H1431H1580H85H6213H1419H4960H3117H3327H15809But Sarah saw that the son whom Hagar the Egyptian had borne to Abraham was mocking,H8283H7200H1121H1904H4713H3205H85H671110and she said to Abraham, "Get rid of that slave woman and her son, for that slave woman's son will never share in the inheritance with my son Isaac."H559H85H1644H519H1121H1121H519H3423H1121H332711The matter distressed Abraham greatly because it concerned his son.H1697H3966H3415H85H5869H182H112112But God said to him, "Do not be so distressed about the boy and your maidservant. Listen to whatever Sarah tells you, because it is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.H430H559H85H3415H5869H5288H519H8283H559H8085H6963H3327H2233H712113I will make the son of the maidservant into a nation also, because he is your offspring."H1121H519H7760H1471H223314Early the next morning Abraham took some food and a skin of water and gave them to Hagar. He set them on her shoulders and then sent her off with the boy. She went on her way and wandered in the desert of Beersheba.H85H7925H1242H3947H3899H2573H4325H5414H1904H7760H7926H3206H7971H3212H8582H4057H88415When the water in the skin was gone, she put the boy under one of the bushes.H4325H3615H4480H2573H7993H3206H259H788016Then she went off and sat down nearby, about a bowshot away, for she thought, "I cannot watch the boy die." And as she sat there nearby, she began to sob.H3212H3427H5048H7368H2909H7198H559H7200H4194H3206H3427H5375H6963H105817God heard the boy crying, and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and said to her, "What is the matter, Hagar? Do not be afraid; God has heard the boy crying as he lies there.H430H8085H6963H5288H4397H430H7121H1904H8064H559H1904H3372H430H8085H6963H528818Lift the boy up and take him by the hand, for I will make him into a great nation."H6965H5375H5288H2388H3027H7760H1419H147119Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water. So she went and filled the skin with water and gave the boy a drink.H430H6491H5869H7200H875H4325H3212H4390H2573H4325H8248H5288H824820God was with the boy as he grew up. He lived in the desert and became an archer.H430H5288H1431H3427H4057H7235H719921While he was living in the Desert of Paran, his mother got a wife for him from Egypt.H3427H4057H6290H517H3947H802H776H4714

The Treaty at Beersheba

22At that time Abimelech and Phicol the commander of his forces said to Abraham, "God is with you in everything you do.H6256H40H6369H8269H6635H559H85H559H430H621323Now swear to me here before God that you will not deal falsely with me or my children or my descendants. Show to me and the country where you are living as an alien the same kindness I have shown to you."H7650H2008H430H8266H5209H5220H2617H6213H6213H776H148124Abraham said, "I swear it."H85H559H765025Then Abraham complained to Abimelech about a well of water that Abimelech's servants had seized.H85H3198H40H182H875H4325H40H5650H149726But Abimelech said, "I don't know who has done this. You did not tell me, and I heard about it only today."H40H559H3045H6213H1697H3808H5046H3808H8085H1115H311727So Abraham brought sheep and cattle and gave them to Abimelech, and the two men made a treaty.H85H3947H6629H1241H5414H40H8147H3772H128528Abraham set apart seven ewe lambs from the flock,H85H5324H7651H3535H662929and Abimelech asked Abraham, "What is the meaning of these seven ewe lambs you have set apart by themselves?"H40H559H85H2008H7651H3535H532430He replied, "Accept these seven lambs from my hand as a witness that I dug this well."H559H7651H3535H3947H3027H5668H5713H2658H87531So that place was called Beersheba, because the two men swore an oath there.H7121H4725H884H7650H814732After the treaty had been made at Beersheba, Abimelech and Phicol the commander of his forces returned to the land of the Philistines.H3772H1285H884H40H6965H6369H8269H6635H7725H776H643033Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and there he called upon the name of the LORD, the Eternal God.H5193H815H884H7121H8034H3068H5769H41034And Abraham stayed in the land of the Philistines for a long time.H85H1481H6430H776H7227H3117

Prayer Tents is a Christian mission organization that serves Christians around the world and their local bodies to make disciples ("evangelize") more effectively in their communities. Prayer Tents provides resources to enable Christians to form discipleship-focused small groups and make their gatherings known so that other "interested" people may participate and experience Christ in their midst. Our Vision is to make disciples in all nations through the local churches so that anyone seeking God can come to know Him through relationships with other Christians near them.
