Cain and Abel

4Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, saying, "I have gotten a man with the help of the LORD."H120H3045H853H2332H802H2029H3205H853H7014H559H7069H376H854H30682And again, she bore his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, and Cain a worker of the ground.H3254H3205H251H1893H1893H7462H6629H7014H5647H1273In the course of time Cain brought to the LORD an offering of the fruit of the ground,H7093H3117H7014H935H6529H127H4503H30684and Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat portions. And the LORD had regard for Abel and his offering,H1893H1931H935H1062H6629H2459H3068H8159H1893H45035but for Cain and his offering he had no regard. So Cain was very angry, and his face fell.H7014H4503H8159H7014H3966H2734H6440H53076The LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry, and why has your face fallen?H3068H559H7014H2734H6440H53077If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is for you, but you must rule over it."H518H3190H7613H3190H2403H7257H6607H8669H49108Cain spoke to Abel his brother. And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel and killed him.H7014H559H413H1893H251H7704H7014H6965H413H1893H251H20269Then the LORD said to Cain, "Where is Abel your brother?" He said, "I do not know; am I my brother's keeper?"H3068H559H7014H335H1893H251H559H3045H251H810410And the LORD said, "What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood is crying to me from the ground.H559H4100H6213H6963H251H1818H6817H12711And now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand.H779H127H6475H6310H3947H251H1818H302712When you work the ground, it shall no longer yield to you its strength. You shall be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth."H3588H5647H127H3254H5414H3581H5128H5110H77613Cain said to the LORD, "My punishment is greater than I can bear.H7014H559H3068H5771H1419H537514Behold, you have driven me today away from the ground, and from your face I shall be hidden. I shall be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me."H1644H3117H6440H127H5921H6440H5641H5128H5110H776H1961H4672H202615Then the LORD said to him, "Not so! If anyone kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold." And the LORD put a mark on Cain, lest any who found him should attack him.H3068H559H3651H2026H7014H5358H7659H3068H7760H226H7014H1115H4672H522116Then Cain went away from the presence of the LORD and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.H7014H3318H6440H3068H3427H776H5113H6926H573117Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. When he built a city, he called the name of the city after the name of his son, Enoch.H7014H3045H802H2029H3205H2585H1129H5892H7121H8034H5892H8034H1121H258518To Enoch was born Irad, and Irad fathered Mehujael, and Mehujael fathered Methushael, and Methushael fathered Lamech.H2585H3205H5897H5897H3205H4232H4232H3205H4967H4967H3205H392919And Lamech took two wives. The name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.H3929H3947H8147H802H8034H259H5711H8034H8145H674120Adah bore Jabal; he was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock.H5711H3205H2989H1H3427H168H473521His brother's name was Jubal; he was the father of all those who play the lyre and pipe.H251H8034H3106H1H8610H3658H574822Zillah also bore Tubal-cain; he was the forger of all instruments of bronze and iron. The sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.H6741H3205H8423H3913H2794H5178H1270H269H8423H527923Lamech said to his wives: "Adah and Zillah, hear my voice; you wives of Lamech, listen to what I say: I have killed a man for wounding me, a young man for striking me.H3929H559H802H5711H6741H8085H6963H802H3929H238H565H2026H376H6482H3206H225024If Cain's revenge is sevenfold, then Lamech's is seventy-sevenfold."H3588H7014H5358H7659H3929H7657H765125And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and called his name Seth, for she said, "God has appointed for me another offspring instead of Abel, for Cain killed him."H120H3045H802H5750H3205H1121H7121H8034H8352H430H7896H312H2233H8478H1893H3588H7014H202626To Seth also a son was born, and he called his name Enosh. At that time people began to call upon the name of the LORD.H8352H1931H3205H1121H7121H8034H583H2490H7121H8034H3068
