Cain Murders Abel

4Adam knew his wife Eve intimately, and she conceived and gave birth to Cain. She said, "I have had a male child with the LORD's help."H120H3045H853H2332H802H2029H3205H853H7014H559H7069H376H854H30682Then she also gave birth to his brother Abel. Now Abel became a shepherd of a flock, but Cain cultivated the land.H3254H3205H251H1893H1893H7462H6629H7014H5647H1273In the course of time Cain presented some of the land's produce as an offering to the LORD.H7093H3117H7014H935H6529H127H4503H30684And Abel also presented [an offering]— some of the firstborn of his flock and their fat portions. The LORD had regard for Abel and his offering,H1893H1931H935H1062H6629H2459H3068H8159H1893H45035but He did not have regard for Cain and his offering. Cain was furious, and he was downcast.H7014H4503H8159H7014H3966H2734H6440H53076Then the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you furious? And why are you downcast?H3068H559H7014H2734H6440H53077If you do right, won't you be accepted? But if you do not do right, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is for you, but you must master it."H518H3190H7613H3190H2403H7257H6607H8669H49108Cain said to his brother Abel, "Let's go out to the field." And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.H7014H559H413H1893H251H7704H7014H6965H413H1893H251H20269Then the LORD said to Cain, "Where is your brother Abel?" "I don't know," he replied. "Am I my brother's guardian?"H3068H559H7014H335H1893H251H559H3045H251H810410Then He said, "What have you done? Your brother's blood cries out to Me from the ground!H559H4100H6213H6963H251H1818H6817H12711So now you are cursed [with alienation] from the ground that opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood you have shed.H779H127H6475H6310H3947H251H1818H302712If you work the land, it will never again give you its yield. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth."H3588H5647H127H3254H5414H3581H5128H5110H77613But Cain answered the LORD, "My punishment is too great to bear!H7014H559H3068H5771H1419H537514Since You are banishing me today from the soil, and I must hide myself from Your presence and become a restless wanderer on the earth, whoever finds me will kill me."H1644H3117H6440H127H5921H6440H5641H5128H5110H776H1961H4672H202615Then the LORD replied to him, "In that case, whoever kills Cain will suffer vengeance seven times over." And He placed a mark on Cain so that whoever found him would not kill him.H3068H559H3651H2026H7014H5358H7659H3068H7760H226H7014H1115H4672H522116Then Cain went out from the LORD's presence and lived in the land of Nod, east of Eden.H7014H3318H6440H3068H3427H776H5113H6926H5731

The Line of Cain

17Cain knew his wife intimately, and she conceived and gave birth to Enoch. Then Cain became the builder of a city, and he named the city Enoch after his son.H7014H3045H802H2029H3205H2585H1129H5892H7121H8034H5892H8034H1121H258518Irad was born to Enoch, Irad fathered Mehujael, Mehujael fathered Methushael, and Methushael fathered Lamech.H2585H3205H5897H5897H3205H4232H4232H3205H4967H4967H3205H392919Lamech took two wives for himself, one named Adah and the other named Zillah.H3929H3947H8147H802H8034H259H5711H8034H8145H674120Adah bore Jabal; he was the father of the nomadic herdsmen.H5711H3205H2989H1H3427H168H473521His brother was named Jubal; he was the father of all who play the lyre and the flute.H251H8034H3106H1H8610H3658H574822Zillah bore Tubal-cain, who made all kinds of bronze and iron tools. Tubal-cain's sister was Naamah.H6741H3205H8423H3913H2794H5178H1270H269H8423H527923Lamech said to his wives: Adah and Zillah, hear my voice; wives of Lamech, pay attention to my words. For I killed a man for wounding me, a boy for striking me.H3929H559H802H5711H6741H8085H6963H802H3929H238H565H2026H376H6482H3206H225024If Cain is to be avenged seven times over, then for Lamech it will be seventy-seven times!H3588H7014H5358H7659H3929H7657H765125Adam knew his wife intimately again, and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth, for [she said,] "God has given me another child in place of Abel, since Cain killed him."H120H3045H802H5750H3205H1121H7121H8034H8352H430H7896H312H2233H8478H1893H3588H7014H202626A son was born to Seth also, and he named him Enosh. At that time people began to call on the name of the LORD.H8352H1931H3205H1121H7121H8034H583H2490H7121H8034H3068
