Israel’s Return

14For the LORD will have compassion on Jacob and will choose Israel again. He will settle them on their own land. The foreigner will join them and be united with the house of Jacob.H3068H7355H3290H977H3478H3240H127H1616H3867H5596H1004H3290 2The nations will escort Israel and bring it to its homeland. Then the house of Israel will possess them as male and female slaves in the LORD's land. They will make captives of their captors and will rule over their oppressors.H5971H3947H935H4725H1004H3478H5157H127H3068H5650H8198H7617H7617H7287H5065

Downfall of the King of Babylon

3When the LORD gives you rest from your pain, torment, and the hard labor you were forced to do,H3117H3068H5117H6090H7267H7186H5656H5647 4you will sing this song [of contempt] about the king of Babylon and say: How the oppressor has quieted down, and how the raging has become quiet!H5375H4912H4428H894H559H5065H7673H4062H7673 5The LORD has broken the staff of the wicked, the scepter of the rulers.H3068H7665H4294H7563H7626H4910 6It struck the peoples in anger with unceasing blows. It subdued the nations in rage with relentless persecution.H5221H5971H5678H1115H5627H4347H7287H1471H639H4783H1097H2820 7All the earth is calm and at rest; people shout with a ringing cry.H776H5117H8252H6476H7440 8Even the cypresses and the cedars of Lebanon rejoice over you: "Since you have been laid low, no woodcutter has come against us."H1265H8055H730H3844H7901H3772H5927 9Sheol below is eager to greet your coming. He stirs up the spirits of the departed for you— all the rulers of the earth. He makes all the kings of the nations rise from their thrones.H7585H7264H7125H935H5782H7496H6260H776H6965H3678H4428H1471 10They all respond to you, saying: "You too have become as weak as we are; you have become like us!H6030H559H2470H4911 11Your splendor has been brought down to Sheol, [along with] the music of your harps. Maggots are spread out under you, and worms cover you."H1347H3381H7585H1998H5035H7415H3331H8438H4374 12Shining morning star, how you have fallen from the heavens! You destroyer of nations, you have been cut down to the ground.H5307H8064H1966H1121H7837H3213H1438H776H2522H1471 13You said to yourself: "I will ascend to the heavens; I will set up my throne above the stars of God. I will sit on the mount of the [gods'] assembly, in the remotest parts of the North.H559H3824H5927H8064H7311H3678H4605H3556H410H3427H2022H4150H3411H6828 14I will ascend above the highest clouds; I will make myself like the Most High."H5927H1116H5645H1819H5945 15But you will be brought down to Sheol into the deepest regions of the Pit.H3381H7585H3411H953 16Those who see you will stare at you; they will look closely at you: "Is this the man who caused the earth to tremble, who shook the kingdoms,H7200H7688H995H376H776H7264H7493H4467 17who turned the world into a wilderness, who trampled its cities and would not release the prisoners to return home?"H7760H8398H4057H2040H5892H6605H1004H615 18All the kings of the nations lie in splendor, each in his own tomb.H4428H1471H7901H3519H376H1004 19But you are thrown out without a grave, like a worthless branch, covered by those slain with the sword and dumped into a rocky pit like a trampled corpse.H7993H6913H8581H5342H3830H2026H2944H2719H3381H68H953H6297H947 20You will not join them in burial, because you destroyed your land and slaughtered your own people. The offspring of evildoers will never be remembered.H3161H6900H7843H776H2026H5971H2233H7489H5769H7121 21Prepare a place of slaughter for his sons, because of the iniquity of their fathers. They never rise up to possess a land or fill the surface of the earth with cities.H3559H4293H1121H5771H1H1077H6965H3423H776H4390H6440H8398H6145H5892 22"I will rise up against them"— the declaration of the LORD of Hosts— "and I will cut off from Babylon her reputation, remnant, offspring, and posterity"— the LORD's declaration.H6965H5002H3068H6635H3772H894H8034H7605H5209H5220H5002H3068 23"I will make her a swampland and a region for wild animals, and I will sweep her away with a broom of destruction." [This is] the declaration of the LORD of Hosts.H7760H4180H7090H98H4325H2894H4292H8045H5002H3068H6635

Assyria Will Be Destroyed

24The LORD of Hosts has sworn: As I have planned, so it will be; as I have purposed it, so it will happen.H3068H6635H7650H559H1819H3289H6965 25I will break Assyria in My land; I will tread him down on My mountain. Then his yoke will be taken from them, and his burden will be removed from their shoulders.H7665H804H776H2022H947H5923H5493H5448H5493H7926 26This is the plan prepared for the whole earth, and this is the hand stretched out against all the nations.H6098H3289H776H3027H5186H1471 27The LORD of Hosts Himself has planned it; therefore, who can stand in its way? It is His hand that is outstretched, so who can turn it back?H3068H6635H3289H6565H3027H5186H7725

An Oracle against Philistia

28In the year that King Ahaz died, this oracle came:H8141H4428H271H4194H4853 29Don't rejoice, all of you [in] Philistia, because the rod of the one who struck you is broken. For a viper will come out of the root of a snake, and from its egg comes a flying serpent.H8055H6429H7626H5221H7665H5175H8328H3318H6848H6529H8314H5774H8314 30Then the firstborn of the poor will be well fed, and the impoverished will lie down in safety, but I will kill your root with hunger, and your remnant will be slain.H1060H1800H7462H34H7257H983H4191H8328H7458H2026H7611 31Wail, you gates! Cry out, city! Tremble with fear, all Philistia! For a cloud of dust is coming from the north, and there is no one missing from [the invader's] ranks.H3213H8179H2199H5892H6429H4127H935H6828H6227H909H4151 32What answer will be given to the messengers from that nation? The LORD has founded Zion, and His afflicted people find refuge in her.H6030H4397H1471H3068H3245H6726H6041H5971H2620
