The Wickedness of Judah

2Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth; for the LORD has spoken: "Children have I reared and brought up, but they have rebelled against me.H8085H8064H238H776H3068H1696H1431H7311H1121H6586 3The ox knows its owner, and the donkey its master's crib, but Israel does not know, my people do not understand."H7794H3045H7069H2543H1167H18H3478H3045H5971H995 4Ah, sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, offspring of evildoers, children who deal corruptly! They have forsaken the LORD, they have despised the Holy One of Israel, they are utterly estranged.H1945H2398H1471H5971H3515H5771H2233H7489H1121H7843H5800H853H3068H5006H853H6918H3478H5006H2114H268 5Why will you still be struck down? Why will you continue to rebel? The whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.H5221H5627H3254H7218H2483H3824H1742 6From the sole of the foot even to the head, there is no soundness in it, but bruises and sores and raw wounds; they are not pressed out or bound up or softened with oil.H3709H7272H7218H4974H6482H2250H2961H4347H2115H2280H7401H8081 7Your country lies desolate; your cities are burned with fire; in your very presence foreigners devour your land; it is desolate, as overthrown by foreigners.H776H8077H5892H8313H784H127H2114H398H8077H4114H2114 8And the daughter of Zion is left like a booth in a vineyard, like a lodge in a cucumber field, like a besieged city.H1323H6726H3498H5521H3754H4412H4750H5341H5892 9If the LORD of hosts had not left us a few survivors, we should have been like Sodom, and become like Gomorrah.H3884H3068H6635H3498H4592H8300H1961H5467H1819H6017 10Hear the word of the LORD, you rulers of Sodom! Give ear to the teaching of our God, you people of Gomorrah!H8085H1697H3068H7101H5467H238H8451H430H5971H6017 11"What to me is the multitude of your sacrifices? says the LORD; I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams and the fat of well-fed beasts; I do not delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs, or of goats.H4100H7230H2077H559H3068H7646H5930H352H2459H4806H2654H1818H6499H3532H6260 12"When you come to appear before me, who has required of you this trampling of my courts?H935H7200H6440H1245H3027H7429H2691 13Bring no more vain offerings; incense is an abomination to me. New moon and Sabbath and the calling of convocations— I cannot endure iniquity and solemn assembly.H935H3254H7723H4503H7004H8441H2320H7676H7121H4744H3201H205H6116 14Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hates; they have become a burden to me; I am weary of bearing them.H2320H4150H5315H8130H2960H3811H5375 15When you spread out your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; even though you make many prayers, I will not listen; your hands are full of blood.H6566H3709H5956H5869H7235H8605H8085H3027H4390H1818 16Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean; remove the evil of your deeds from before my eyes; cease to do evil,H7364H2135H5493H7455H4611H5048H5869H2308H7489 17learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow's cause.H3925H3190H1875H4941H833H2541H8199H3490H7378H490 18"Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.H3212H3198H559H3068H2399H8144H3835H7950H119H8438H6785 19If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land;H14H8085H398H2898H776 20but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be eaten by the sword; for the mouth of the LORD has spoken."H3985H4784H398H2719H6310H3068H1696

The Unfaithful City

21How the faithful city has become a whore, she who was full of justice! Righteousness lodged in her, but now murderers.H539H7151H2181H4392H4941H6664H3885H7523 22Your silver has become dross, your best wine mixed with water.H3701H5509H5435H4107H4325 23Your princes are rebels and companions of thieves. Everyone loves a bribe and runs after gifts. They do not bring justice to the fatherless, and the widow's cause does not come to them.H8269H5637H2270H1590H157H7810H7291H8021H8199H3490H7379H490H935 24Therefore the Lord declares, the LORD of hosts, the Mighty One of Israel: "Ah, I will get relief from my enemies and avenge myself on my foes.H5002H113H3068H6635H46H3478H1945H5162H6862H5358H341 25I will turn my hand against you and will smelt away your dross as with lye and remove all your alloy.H7725H3027H1253H6884H5509H5493H913 26And I will restore your judges as at the first, and your counselors as at the beginning. Afterward you shall be called the city of righteousness, the faithful city."H7725H8199H7223H3289H8462H310H7121H5892H6664H539H7151 27Zion shall be redeemed by justice, and those in her who repent, by righteousness.H6726H6299H4941H7725H6666 28But rebels and sinners shall be broken together, and those who forsake the LORD shall be consumed.H7667H6586H2400H3162H5800H3068H3615 29For they shall be ashamed of the oaks that you desired; and you shall blush for the gardens that you have chosen.H954H352H2530H2659H1593H977 30For you shall be like an oak whose leaf withers, and like a garden without water.H424H5929H5034H1593H4325 31And the strong shall become tinder, and his work a spark, and both of them shall burn together, with none to quench them.H2634H5296H6467H5213H8147H1197H3162H3518
