Judah on Trial

2Listen, heavens, and pay attention, earth, for the LORD has spoken: "I have raised children and brought them up, but they have rebelled against Me.H8085H8064H238H776H3068H1696H1431H7311H1121H6586 3The ox knows its owner, and the donkey its master's feeding-trough, [but] Israel does not know; My people do not understand."H7794H3045H7069H2543H1167H18H3478H3045H5971H995 4Oh— sinful nation, people weighed down with iniquity, brood of evildoers, depraved children! They have abandoned the LORD; they have despised the Holy One of Israel; they have turned their backs [on Him].H1945H2398H1471H5971H3515H5771H2233H7489H1121H7843H5800H853H3068H5006H853H6918H3478H5006H2114H268 5Why do you want more beatings? Why do you keep on rebelling? The whole head is hurt, and the whole heart is sick.H5221H5627H3254H7218H2483H3824H1742 6From the sole of the foot even to the head, no spot is uninjured— wounds, welts, and festering sores not cleansed, bandaged, or soothed with oil.H3709H7272H7218H4974H6482H2250H2961H4347H2115H2280H7401H8081 7Your land is desolate, your cities burned with fire; before your very eyes foreigners devour your fields— a desolation overthrown by foreigners.H776H8077H5892H8313H784H127H2114H398H8077H4114H2114 8Daughter Zion is abandoned like a shelter in a vineyard, like a shack in a cucumber field, like a besieged city.H1323H6726H3498H5521H3754H4412H4750H5341H5892 9If the LORD of Hosts had not left us a few survivors, we would be like Sodom, we would resemble Gomorrah.H3884H3068H6635H3498H4592H8300H1961H5467H1819H6017 10Hear the word of the LORD, you rulers of Sodom! Listen to the instruction of our God, you people of Gomorrah!H8085H1697H3068H7101H5467H238H8451H430H5971H6017 11"What are all your sacrifices to Me?" asks the LORD. "I have had enough of burnt offerings and rams and the fat of well-fed cattle; I have no desire for the blood of bulls, lambs, or male goats.H4100H7230H2077H559H3068H7646H5930H352H2459H4806H2654H1818H6499H3532H6260 12When you come to appear before Me, who requires this from you— [this] trampling of My courts?H935H7200H6440H1245H3027H7429H2691 13Stop bringing useless offerings. I despise [your] incense. New Moons and Sabbaths, and the calling of solemn assemblies— I cannot stand iniquity with a festival.H935H3254H7723H4503H7004H8441H2320H7676H7121H4744H3201H205H6116 14I hate your New Moons and prescribed festivals. They have become a burden to Me; I am tired of putting up with [them].H2320H4150H5315H8130H2960H3811H5375 15When you lift up your hands [in prayer], I will refuse to look at you; even if you offer countless prayers, I will not listen. Your hands are covered with blood.H6566H3709H5956H5869H7235H8605H8085H3027H4390H1818

Purification of Jerusalem

16"Wash yourselves. Cleanse yourselves. Remove your evil deeds from My sight. Stop doing evil.H7364H2135H5493H7455H4611H5048H5869H2308H7489 17Learn to do what is good. Seek justice. Correct the oppressor. Defend the rights of the fatherless. Plead the widow's cause.H3925H3190H1875H4941H833H2541H8199H3490H7378H490 18"Come, let us discuss this," says the LORD. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they will be as white as snow; though they are as red as crimson, they will be like wool.H3212H3198H559H3068H2399H8144H3835H7950H119H8438H6785 19If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land.H14H8085H398H2898H776 20But if you refuse and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword." For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.H3985H4784H398H2719H6310H3068H1696 21The faithful city— what an adulteress she has become! She was once full of justice. Righteousness once dwelt in her— but now, murderers!H539H7151H2181H4392H4941H6664H3885H7523 22Your silver has become dross, your beer is diluted with water.H3701H5509H5435H4107H4325 23Your rulers are rebels, friends of thieves. They all love graft and chase after bribes. They do not defend the rights of the fatherless, and the widow's case never comes before them."H8269H5637H2270H1590H157H7810H7291H8021H8199H3490H7379H490H935 24Therefore the Lord God of Hosts, the Mighty One of Israel, declares: "Ah, I will gain satisfaction against My foes; I will take revenge against My enemies.H5002H113H3068H6635H46H3478H1945H5162H6862H5358H341 25I will turn My hand against you and will burn away your dross completely; I will remove all your impurities.H7725H3027H1253H6884H5509H5493H913 26I will restore your judges to what they once were, and your advisers to their former state. Afterwards you will be called the Righteous City, a Faithful City."H7725H8199H7223H3289H8462H310H7121H5892H6664H539H7151 27Zion will be redeemed by justice, her repentant ones by righteousness.H6726H6299H4941H7725H6666 28But both rebels and sinners will be destroyed, and those who abandon the LORD will perish.H7667H6586H2400H3162H5800H3068H3615 29Indeed, they will be ashamed of the sacred trees you desired, and you will be embarrassed because of the gardens you have chosen.H954H352H2530H2659H1593H977 30For you will become like an oak whose leaves are withered, and like a garden without water.H424H5929H5034H1593H4325 31The strong one will become tinder, and his work a spark; both will burn together, with no one to quench [the flames].H2634H5296H6467H5213H8147H1197H3162H3518
