Isaiah 38

Hezekiah’s Life Extended

38In those days Hezekiah was sick and near death. And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, went to him and said to him, "Thus says the LORD: 'Set your house in order, for you shall die and not live.'"H3117H2396H2470H4191H3470H5030H1121H531H935H559H559H3068H1004H6680H4191H24212Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed to the LORD,H2396H5437H6440H7023H6419H30683and said, "Remember now, O LORD, I pray, how I have walked before You in truth and with a loyal heart, and have done what is good in Your sight." And Hezekiah wept bitterly.H559H2142H3068H577H1980H6440H571H8003H3820H6213H2896H5869H2396H1058H1065H14194And the word of the LORD came to Isaiah, saying,H1697H3068H3470H5595"Go and tell Hezekiah, 'Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father: "I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; surely I will add to your days fifteen years.H1980H559H2396H559H3068H430H1732H1H8085H8605H7200H1832H3254H3117H2568H6240H81416"I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria, and I will defend this city."'H5337H5892H3709H4428H804H1598H58927"And this is the sign to you from the LORD, that the LORD will do this thing which He has spoken:H226H3068H3068H6213H1697H16968"Behold, I will bring the shadow on the sundial, which has gone down with the sun on the sundial of Ahaz, ten degrees backward." So the sun returned ten degrees on the dial by which it had gone down.H7725H6738H4609H3381H8121H4609H271H6235H4609H322H8121H7725H6235H4609H4609H33819This is the writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick and had recovered from his sickness:H4385H2396H4428H3063H2470H2421H248310I said, "In the prime of my life I shall go to the gates of Sheol; I am deprived of the remainder of my years."H559H1824H3117H3212H8179H7585H6485H3499H814111I said, "I shall not see YAH, The LORD in the land of the living; I shall observe man no more among the inhabitants of the world.H559H7200H3050H3050H776H2416H5027H120H3427H230912My life span is gone, Taken from me like a shepherd's tent; I have cut off my life like a weaver. He cuts me off from the loom; From day until night You make an end of me.H1755H5265H1540H7473H168H7088H707H2416H1214H1803H3117H3915H799913I have considered until morning—Like a lion, So He breaks all my bones; From day until night You make an end of me.H7737H1242H738H7665H6106H3117H3915H799914Like a crane or a swallow, so I chattered; I mourned like a dove; My eyes fail from looking upward. O LORD, I am oppressed; Undertake for me!H5483H5693H6850H1897H3123H5869H1809H4791H3068H6234H614815"What shall I say? He has both spoken to me, And He Himself has done it. I shall walk carefully all my years In the bitterness of my soul.H1696H559H6213H1718H8141H4751H531516O LORD, by these things men live; And in all these things is the life of my spirit; So You will restore me and make me live.H136H2421H2416H7307H2492H242117Indeed it was for my own peace That I had great bitterness; But You have lovingly delivered my soul from the pit of corruption, For You have cast all my sins behind Your back.H7965H4751H4843H2836H5315H7845H1097H7993H2399H310H146018For Sheol cannot thank You, Death cannot praise You; Those who go down to the pit cannot hope for Your truth.H7585H3034H4194H1984H3381H953H7663H57119The living, the living man, he shall praise You, As I do this day; The father shall make known Your truth to the children.H2416H2416H3034H3117H1H1121H3045H57120"The LORD was ready to save me; Therefore we will sing my songs with stringed instruments All the days of our life, in the house of the LORD."H3068H3467H5058H5059H3117H2416H1004H306821Now Isaiah had said, "Let them take a lump of figs, and apply it as a poultice on the boil, and he shall recover."H3470H559H5375H1690H8384H4799H7822H242122And Hezekiah had said, "What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of the LORD?"H2396H559H226H5927H1004H3068

Prayer Tents is a Christian mission organization that serves Christians around the world and their local bodies to make disciples ("evangelize") more effectively in their communities. Prayer Tents provides resources to enable Christians to form discipleship-focused small groups and make their gatherings known so that other "interested" people may participate and experience Christ in their midst. Our Vision is to make disciples in all nations through the local churches so that anyone seeking God can come to know Him through relationships with other Christians near them.
