Jeremiah 34

Zedekiah Warned by God

34The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his army, all the kingdoms of the earth under his dominion, and all the people, fought against Jerusalem and all its cities, saying,H1697H3414H3068H5019H4428H894H2428H4467H776H3027H4475H5971H3898H3389H5892H5592"Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: 'Go and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah and tell him, "Thus says the LORD: 'Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire.H559H3068H430H3478H1980H559H6667H4428H3063H559H559H3068H5414H5892H3027H4428H894H8313H7843'And you shall not escape from his hand, but shall surely be taken and delivered into his hand; your eyes shall see the eyes of the king of Babylon, he shall speak with you face to face, and you shall go to Babylon.'"'H4422H3027H8610H8610H5414H3027H5869H7200H5869H4428H894H1696H6310H6310H935H8944"Yet hear the word of the LORD, O Zedekiah king of Judah! Thus says the LORD concerning you: 'You shall not die by the sword.H8085H1697H3068H6667H4428H3063H559H3068H4191H27195'You shall die in peace; as in the ceremonies of your fathers, the former kings who were before you, so they shall burn incense for you and lament for you, saying, "Alas, lord!" For I have pronounced the word, says the LORD.'"H4191H7965H4955H1H7223H4428H6440H8313H5594H1945H113H1696H1697H5002H30686Then Jeremiah the prophet spoke all these words to Zedekiah king of Judah in Jerusalem,H3414H5030H1696H1697H6667H4428H3063H33897when the king of Babylon's army fought against Jerusalem and all the cities of Judah that were left, against Lachish and Azekah; for only these fortified cities remained of the cities of Judah.H4428H894H2428H3898H3389H5892H3063H3498H3923H5825H4013H5892H7604H5892H3063

Treacherous Treatment of Slaves

8This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, after King Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the people who were at Jerusalem to proclaim liberty to them:H1697H3414H3068H310H4428H6667H3772H1285H5971H3389H7121H18659that every man should set free his male and female slave—a Hebrew man or woman—that no one should keep a Jewish brother in bondage.H376H5650H376H8198H5680H5680H7971H2670H5647H3064H25110Now when all the princes and all the people, who had entered into the covenant, heard that everyone should set free his male and female slaves, that no one should keep them in bondage anymore, they obeyed and let them go.H8269H5971H935H1285H8085H376H5650H376H8198H7971H2670H5647H8085H797111But afterward they changed their minds and made the male and female slaves return, whom they had set free, and brought them into subjection as male and female slaves.H310H7725H5650H8198H7971H2670H7725H3533H3533H5650H819812Therefore the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,H1697H3068H3414H3068H55913"Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: 'I made a covenant with your fathers in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage, saying,H559H3068H430H3478H3772H1285H1H3117H3318H776H4714H1004H5650H55914"At the end of seven years let every man set free his Hebrew brother, who has been sold to him; and when he has served you six years, you shall let him go free from you." But your fathers did not obey Me nor incline their ear.H7093H7651H8141H7971H376H251H5680H4376H5647H8337H8141H7971H2670H1H8085H5186H24115'Then you recently turned and did what was right in My sight—every man proclaiming liberty to his neighbor; and you made a covenant before Me in the house which is called by My name.H3117H7725H6213H3477H5869H7121H1865H376H7453H3772H1285H6440H1004H7121H803416'Then you turned around and profaned My name, and every one of you brought back his male and female slaves, whom he had set at liberty, at their pleasure, and brought them back into subjection, to be your male and female slaves.'H7725H2490H8034H376H5650H376H8198H7971H2670H5315H7725H3533H5650H819817"Therefore thus says the LORD: 'You have not obeyed Me in proclaiming liberty, every one to his brother and every one to his neighbor. Behold, I proclaim liberty to you,' says the LORD—'to the sword, to pestilence, and to famine! And I will deliver you to trouble among all the kingdoms of the earth.H559H3068H8085H7121H1865H376H251H376H7453H7121H1865H5002H3068H2719H1698H7458H5414H2189H2113H4467H77618'And I will give the men who have transgressed My covenant, who have not performed the words of the covenant which they made before Me, when they cut the calf in two and passed between the parts of it—H5414H582H5674H1285H6965H1697H1285H3772H6440H3772H5695H8147H5674H133519'the princes of Judah, the princes of Jerusalem, the eunuchs, the priests, and all the people of the land who passed between the parts of the calf—H8269H3063H8269H3389H5631H3548H5971H776H5674H1335H569520'I will give them into the hand of their enemies and into the hand of those who seek their life. Their dead bodies shall be for meat for the birds of the heaven and the beasts of the earth.H5414H3027H341H3027H1245H5315H5038H3978H5775H8064H929H77621'And I will give Zedekiah king of Judah and his princes into the hand of their enemies, into the hand of those who seek their life, and into the hand of the king of Babylon's army which has gone back from you.H6667H4428H3063H8269H5414H3027H341H3027H1245H5315H3027H4428H894H2428H592722'Behold, I will command,' says the LORD, 'and cause them to return to this city. They will fight against it and take it and burn it with fire; and I will make the cities of Judah a desolation without inhabitant.'"H6680H5002H3068H7725H5892H3898H3920H8313H784H5414H5892H3063H8077H3427

Prayer Tents is a Christian mission organization that serves Christians around the world and their local bodies to make disciples ("evangelize") more effectively in their communities. Prayer Tents provides resources to enable Christians to form discipleship-focused small groups and make their gatherings known so that other "interested" people may participate and experience Christ in their midst. Our Vision is to make disciples in all nations through the local churches so that anyone seeking God can come to know Him through relationships with other Christians near them.
