Jeremiah 6

Threatened Siege of Jerusalem

6Run for cover, Benjaminites, out of Jerusalem! Sound the ram's horn in Tekoa; raise a smoke signal over Beth-haccherem, for disaster threatens from the north, even great destruction.H1121H1144H5756H7130H3389H8628H7782H8620H5375H4864H1021H7451H8259H6828H1419H76672[Though she is] beautiful and delicate, I will destroy Daughter Zion.H1820H1323H6726H5116H60263Shepherds and their flocks will come against her; they will pitch [their] tents all around her. Each will pasture his own portion.H7462H5739H935H8628H168H5439H7462H376H30274Set [them] apart for war against her; rise up, let's attack at noon. Woe to us, for the day is passing; the evening shadows grow long.H6942H4421H6965H5927H6672H188H3117H6437H6752H6153H51865Rise up, let's attack by night. Let us destroy her fortresses."H6965H5927H3915H7843H7596For this is what the LORD of Hosts says: Cut down the trees; raise a siege ramp against Jerusalem. This city must be punished. There is nothing but oppression within her.H3068H6635H559H3772H6097H8210H5550H3389H5892H6485H6233H71307As a well gushes out its water, so she pours forth her evil. Violence and destruction resound in her. Sickness and wounds keep coming to My attention.H953H6979H4325H6979H7451H2555H7701H8085H6440H8548H2483H43478Be warned, Jerusalem, or I will be torn away from you; I will make you a desolation, a land devoid of inhabitant.H3256H3389H5315H3363H7760H8077H776H3427

Wrath on Israel

9This is what the LORD of Hosts says: Glean as thoroughly as a vine the remnant of Israel. Pass your hand once more like a grape gatherer over the branches.H559H3068H6635H5953H5953H7611H3478H1612H7725H3027H1219H555210Who can I speak to and give such a warning that they will listen? Look, their ear is uncircumcised, so they cannot pay attention. See, the word of the LORD has become contemptible to them— they find no pleasure in it.H1696H5749H8085H241H6189H3201H7181H1697H3068H2781H265411But I am full of the LORD's wrath; I am tired of holding it back. Pour [it] out on the children in the street, on the gang of young men as well. For both husband and wife will be captured, the old with the very old.H4392H2534H3068H3811H3557H8210H5768H2351H5475H970H3162H376H802H3920H2205H4390H311712Their houses will be turned over to others, [their] fields and wives as well, for I will stretch out My hand against the residents of the land. [This is] the LORD's declaration.H1004H5437H312H7704H802H3162H5186H3027H3427H776H5002H306813For from the least to the greatest of them, everyone is gaining profit unjustly. From prophet to priest, everyone deals falsely.H6996H1419H1214H1215H5030H3548H6213H826714They have treated My people's brokenness superficially, claiming: Peace, peace, when there is no peace.H7495H7667H1323H5971H7043H559H7965H7965H796515Were they ashamed when they acted so abhorrently? They weren't at all ashamed. They can no longer feel humiliation. Therefore, they will fall among the fallen. When I punish them, they will collapse, says the LORD.H3001H6213H8441H1571H954H954H1571H3045H3637H5307H5307H6256H6485H3782H559H3068

Disaster because of Disobedience

16This is what the LORD says: Stand by the roadways and look. Ask about the ancient paths: Which is the way to what is good? Then take it and find rest for yourselves. But they protested: We won't!H559H3068H5975H1870H7200H7592H5769H5410H2896H1870H3212H4672H4771H5315H559H321217I appointed watchmen over you [and said:] Listen for the sound of the ram's horn. But they protested: We won't listen!H6965H6822H7181H6963H7782H559H718118Therefore listen, you nations and you witnesses, learn what [the charge] is against them.H8085H1471H3045H571219Listen, earth! I am about to bring disaster on these people, the fruit of their own plotting, for they have paid no attention to My word. They have rejected My law.H8085H776H935H7451H5971H6529H4284H7181H1697H8451H398820What use to Me is frankincense from Sheba or sweet cane from a distant land? Your burnt offerings are not acceptable; your sacrifices do not please Me.H935H3828H7614H2896H7070H4801H776H5930H7522H2077H614921Therefore, this is what the LORD says: I am going to place stumbling blocks before these people; fathers and sons together will stumble over them; friends and neighbors will [also] perish.H559H3068H5414H4383H5971H1H1121H3162H3782H7934H7453H6

A Cruel Nation from the North

22This is what the LORD says: Look, an army is coming from a northern land; a great nation will be awakened from the remote regions of the earth.H559H3068H5971H935H6828H776H1419H1471H5782H3411H77623They grasp bow and javelin. They are cruel and show no mercy. Their voice roars like the sea, and they ride on horses, lined up like men in battle formation against you, Daughter Zion.H2388H7198H3591H394H7355H6963H1993H3220H7392H5483H6186H376H4421H1323H672624We have heard about it, and we are discouraged. Distress has seized us— pain like a woman in labor.H8085H8089H3027H7503H6869H2388H2427H320525Don't go out to the fields; don't walk on the road. For the enemy has a sword; terror is on every side.H3318H7704H3212H1870H2719H341H4032H543926My dear people, dress yourselves in sackcloth and roll in the dust. Mourn [as you would for] an only son, a bitter lament, for suddenly the destroyer will come on us.H1323H5971H2296H8242H6428H665H6213H60H3173H8563H4553H7703H6597H935

Jeremiah Appointed as an Examiner

27I have appointed you to be an assayer among My people— a refiner— so you may know and assay their way of life.H5414H969H4013H5971H3045H974H187028All are stubborn rebels spreading slander. [They are] bronze and iron; all of them are corrupt.H5493H5637H1980H7400H5178H1270H784329The bellows blow, blasting the lead with fire. The refining is completely in vain; the evil ones are not separated out.H4647H2787H5777H8552H800H784H6884H6884H7723H7451H542330They are called rejected silver, for the LORD has rejected them.H3988H3701H7121H3068H3988

Prayer Tents is a Christian mission organization that serves Christians around the world and their local bodies to make disciples ("evangelize") more effectively in their communities. Prayer Tents provides resources to enable Christians to form discipleship-focused small groups and make their gatherings known so that other "interested" people may participate and experience Christ in their midst. Our Vision is to make disciples in all nations through the local churches so that anyone seeking God can come to know Him through relationships with other Christians near them.
