A Message About Moab

48Concerning Moab: This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: "Woe to Nebo, for it will be ruined. Kiriathaim will be disgraced and captured; the stronghold will be disgraced and shattered.H4124H559H3068H6635H430H3478H1945H5015H7703H7156H3001H3920H4869H3001H28652Moab will be praised no more; in Heshbon men will plot her downfall: 'Come, let us put an end to that nation.' You too, O Madmen, will be silenced; the sword will pursue you.H8416H4124H2809H2803H7451H3212H3772H1471H1826H4086H2719H3212H3103Listen to the cries from Horonaim, cries of great havoc and destruction.H6963H6818H2773H7701H1419H76674Moab will be broken; her little ones will cry out.H4124H7665H6810H2201H80855They go up the way to Luhith, weeping bitterly as they go; on the road down to Horonaim anguished cries over the destruction are heard.H4608H3872H1065H1065H5927H4174H2773H6862H8085H6818H76676Flee! Run for your lives; become like a bush in the desert.H5127H4422H5315H1961H6176H40577Since you trust in your deeds and riches, you too will be taken captive, and Chemosh will go into exile, together with his priests and officials.H982H4639H214H3920H3645H3318H1473H3548H8269H31628The destroyer will come against every town, and not a town will escape. The valley will be ruined and the plateau destroyed, because the LORD has spoken.H7703H935H5892H5892H4422H6010H6H4334H8045H3068H5599Put salt on Moab, for she will be laid waste; her towns will become desolate, with no one to live in them.H5414H6731H4124H5323H3318H5892H8047H3427H200410"A curse on him who is lax in doing the LORD'S work! A curse on him who keeps his sword from bloodshed!H779H6213H4399H3068H7423H779H4513H2719H181811"Moab has been at rest from youth, like wine left on its dregs, not poured from one jar to another—she has not gone into exile. So she tastes as she did, and her aroma is unchanged.H4124H7599H5271H8252H8105H7324H3627H3627H1980H1473H2940H5975H7381H417112But days are coming," declares the LORD, "when I will send men who pour from jars, and they will pour her out; they will empty her jars and smash her jugs.H3117H935H5002H3068H7971H6808H6808H7324H3627H5310H503513Then Moab will be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed when they trusted in Bethel.H4124H954H3645H1004H3478H954H1008H400914"How can you say, 'We are warriors, men valiant in battle'?H559H1368H2428H582H442115Moab will be destroyed and her towns invaded; her finest young men will go down in the slaughter," declares the King, whose name is the LORD Almighty.H4124H7703H5927H5892H4005H970H3381H2874H5002H4428H8034H3068H663516"The fall of Moab is at hand; her calamity will come quickly.H343H4124H7138H935H7451H4116H396617Mourn for her, all who live around her, all who know her fame; say, 'How broken is the mighty scepter, how broken the glorious staff!'H5439H5110H3045H8034H559H5797H4294H7665H8597H473118"Come down from your glory and sit on the parched ground, O inhabitants of the Daughter of Dibon, for he who destroys Moab will come up against you and ruin your fortified cities.H1323H3427H1769H3381H3519H3427H6772H7703H4124H5927H7843H401319Stand by the road and watch, you who live in Aroer. Ask the man fleeing and the woman escaping, ask them, 'What has happened?'H3427H6177H5975H1870H6822H7592H5127H4422H559H196120Moab is disgraced, for she is shattered. Wail and cry out! Announce by the Arnon that Moab is destroyed.H4124H3001H2865H3213H2199H5046H769H4124H770321Judgment has come to the plateau—to Holon, Jahzah and Mephaath,H4941H935H4334H776H2473H3096H415822to Dibon, Nebo and Beth Diblathaim,H1769H5015H101523to Kiriathaim, Beth Gamul and Beth Meon,H7156H1014H101024to Kerioth and Bozrah—to all the towns of Moab, far and near.H7152H1224H5892H776H4124H7350H713825Moab's horn is cut off; her arm is broken," declares the LORD.H7161H4124H1438H2220H7665H5002H306826"Make her drunk, for she has defied the LORD. Let Moab wallow in her vomit; let her be an object of ridicule.H7937H1431H3068H4124H5606H6892H781427Was not Israel the object of your ridicule? Was she caught among thieves, that you shake your head in scorn whenever you speak of her?H3478H7814H4672H1590H1767H1697H511028Abandon your towns and dwell among the rocks, you who live in Moab. Be like a dove that makes its nest at the mouth of a cave.H3427H4124H5800H5892H7931H5553H3123H7077H5676H6354H631029"We have heard of Moab's pride—her overweening pride and conceit, her pride and arrogance and the haughtiness of her heart.H8085H1347H4124H3966H1343H1363H1346H1347H7312H382030I know her insolence but it is futile," declares the LORD, "and her boasts accomplish nothing.H3045H5678H5002H3068H907H621331Therefore I wail over Moab, for all Moab I cry out, I moan for the men of Kir Hareseth.H3213H4124H2199H4124H1897H582H702532I weep for you, as Jazer weeps, O vines of Sibmah. Your branches spread as far as the sea; they reached as far as the sea of Jazer. The destroyer has fallen on your ripened fruit and grapes.H1612H7643H1058H1065H3270H5189H5674H3220H5060H3220H3270H7703H5307H7019H121033Joy and gladness are gone from the orchards and fields of Moab. I have stopped the flow of wine from the presses; no one treads them with shouts of joy. Although there are shouts, they are not shouts of joy.H8057H1524H622H3759H776H4124H3196H7673H3342H1869H1959H1959H195934"The sound of their cry rises from Heshbon to Elealeh and Jahaz, from Zoar as far as Horonaim and Eglath Shelishiyah, for even the waters of Nimrim are dried up.H2201H2809H500H3096H5414H6963H6820H2773H5697H7992H4325H5249H492335In Moab I will put an end to those who make offerings on the high places and burn incense to their gods," declares the LORD.H7673H4124H5002H3068H5927H1116H6999H43036"So my heart laments for Moab like a flute; it laments like a flute for the men of Kir Hareseth. The wealth they acquired is gone.H3820H1993H4124H2485H3820H1993H2485H582H7025H3502H6213H637Every head is shaved and every beard cut off; every hand is slashed and every waist is covered with sackcloth.H7218H7144H2206H1639H3027H1417H4975H824238On all the roofs in Moab and in the public squares there is nothing but mourning, for I have broken Moab like a jar that no one wants," declares the LORD.H4553H1406H4124H7339H7665H4124H3627H2656H5002H306839"How shattered she is! How they wail! How Moab turns her back in shame! Moab has become an object of ridicule, an object of horror to all those around her."H3213H2865H4124H6437H6203H954H4124H7814H4288H543940This is what the LORD says: "Look! An eagle is swooping down, spreading its wings over Moab.H559H3068H1675H5404H6566H3671H412441Kerioth will be captured and the strongholds taken. In that day the hearts of Moab's warriors will be like the heart of a woman in labor.H7152H3920H4679H8610H1368H3820H4124H3117H3820H802H688742Moab will be destroyed as a nation because she defied the LORD.H4124H8045H5971H1431H306843Terror and pit and snare await you, O people of Moab," declares the LORD.H6343H6354H6341H3427H4124H5002H306844"Whoever flees from the terror will fall into a pit, whoever climbs out of the pit will be caught in a snare; for I will bring upon Moab the year of her punishment," declares the LORD.H5127H5211H6440H6343H5307H6354H5927H6354H3920H6341H935H4124H8141H6486H5002H306845"In the shadow of Heshbon the fugitives stand helpless, for a fire has gone out from Heshbon, a blaze from the midst of Sihon; it burns the foreheads of Moab, the skulls of the noisy boasters.H5127H5975H6738H2809H3581H784H3318H2809H3852H996H5511H398H6285H4124H6936H7588H112146Woe to you, O Moab! The people of Chemosh are destroyed; your sons are taken into exile and your daughters into captivity.H188H4124H5971H3645H6H1121H3947H7628H1323H763347"Yet I will restore the fortunes of Moab in days to come," declares the LORD. Here ends the judgment on Moab.H7725H7622H4124H319H3117H5002H3068H2008H4941H4124
