Jesus and the Woman of Samaria

4Now when Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard, "Jesus is making and baptizing more disciples than John"G5613G3767G2962G1097G3754G5330G191G3754G2424G4160G2532G907G4119G3101G2228G24912—although it was not Jesus himself but his disciples who baptized—G2544G2424G846G907G3756G235G846G31013he left Judea and started back to Galilee.G863G2449G2532G565G3825G1519G10564But he had to go through Samaria.G1161G1163G1330G1223G45405So he came to a Samaritan city called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob had given to his son Joseph.G3767G2064G1519G4172G4540G3004G4965G4139G5564G3739G2384G1325G846G5207G25016Jacob's well was there, and Jesus, tired out by his journey, was sitting by the well. It was about noon.G1161G2384G4077G2258G1563G2424G3767G2872G1537G3597G2516G3779G1909G4077G2258G5616G1623G56107A Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, "Give me a drink."G2064G1135G1537G4540G501G5204G2424G3004G846G1325G3427G40958(His disciples had gone to the city to buy food.)G1063G846G3101G565G1519G4172G2443G59G51609The Samaritan woman said to him, "How is it that you, a Jew, ask a drink of me, a woman of Samaria?" (Jews do not share things in common with Samaritans.)G3767G3004G1135G4542G846G4459G4771G5607G2453G154G4095G3844G1700G5607G1135G4542G1063G2453G4798G3756G4798G454110Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, 'Give me a drink,' you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water."G2424G611G2532G2036G846G1487G1492G1431G2316G2532G5101G2076G3004G4671G1325G3427G4095G4771G302G154G846G2532G302G1325G4671G2198G520411The woman said to him, "Sir, you have no bucket, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water?G1135G3004G846G2962G2192G3777G502G2532G5421G2076G901G4159G3767G2192G2198G520412Are you greater than our ancestor Jacob, who gave us the well, and with his sons and his flocks drank from it?"G3361G1488G4771G3187G2257G3962G2384G3739G1325G2254G5421G2532G4095G1537G846G846G2532G846G5207G2532G846G235313Jesus said to her, "Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again,G2424G611G2532G2036G846G3956G4095G1537G5127G5204G1372G382514but those who drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty. The water that I will give will become in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life."G1161G3739G302G4095G1537G5204G3739G1473G1325G846G1372G1519G165G3364G1372G235G5204G3739G1325G846G1096G1722G846G4077G5204G242G1519G166G222215The woman said to him, "Sir, give me this water, so that I may never be thirsty or have to keep coming here to draw water."G1135G3004G4314G846G2962G1325G3427G5124G5204G3363G1372G3363G3366G2064G1759G50116Jesus said to her, "Go, call your husband, and come back."G2424G3004G846G5217G5455G4675G435G2532G2064G175917The woman answered him, "I have no husband." Jesus said to her, "You are right in saying, 'I have no husband';G1135G611G2532G2036G2192G3756G435G2424G3004G846G2036G2573G2036G3754G2192G3756G43518for you have had five husbands, and the one you have now is not your husband. What you have said is true!"G1063G2192G4002G435G2532G3739G2192G3568G2192G2076G3756G4675G435G5124G2046G22719The woman said to him, "Sir, I see that you are a prophet.G1135G3004G846G2962G2334G3754G4771G1488G439620Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you say that the place where people must worship is in Jerusalem."G2257G3962G4352G1722G5129G3735G2532G5210G3004G3754G1722G2414G2076G5117G3699G1163G435221Jesus said to her, "Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.G2424G3004G846G1135G4100G3427G5610G3754G2064G3753G4352G3777G1722G5129G3735G3777G1722G2414G4352G396222You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.G5210G4352G1492G3756G3739G1492G3739G2249G4352G3754G4991G2076G1537G245323But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such as these to worship him.G235G5610G2064G2532G3568G2076G3753G228G4353G4352G3962G1722G4151G2532G225G2532G1063G3962G2212G5108G4352G84624God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth."G2316G4151G2532G4352G846G1163G4352G1722G4151G2532G22525The woman said to him, "I know that Messiah is coming" (who is called Christ). "When he comes, he will proclaim all things to us."G1135G3004G846G1492G3754G3323G2064G3588G3004G5547G3752G1565G2064G312G2254G395626Jesus said to her, "I am he, the one who is speaking to you."G2424G3004G846G1473G2980G4671G151027Just then his disciples came. They were astonished that he was speaking with a woman, but no one said, "What do you want?" or, "Why are you speaking with her?"G2532G1909G5129G2064G846G3101G2532G2296G3754G2980G3326G1135G3305G3762G2036G5101G2212G2228G5101G2980G3326G84628Then the woman left her water jar and went back to the city. She said to the people,G1135G3767G863G846G5201G2532G565G1519G4172G2532G3004G44429"Come and see a man who told me everything I have ever done! He cannot be the Messiah, can he?"G1205G1492G444G3739G2036G3427G3956G3745G4160G2076G3385G3778G554730They left the city and were on their way to him.G3767G1831G1537G4172G2532G2064G4314G84631Meanwhile the disciples were urging him, "Rabbi, eat something."G1161G1722G3342G3101G2065G846G3004G4461G531532But he said to them, "I have food to eat that you do not know about."G1161G2036G846G1473G2192G1035G5315G3739G5210G1492G3756G149233So the disciples said to one another, "Surely no one has brought him something to eat?"G3767G3004G3101G4314G240G5342G3387G5342G846G531534Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to complete his work.G2424G3004G846G1699G1033G2076G2443G4160G2307G3992G3165G2532G5048G846G204135Do you not say, 'Four months more, then comes the harvest'? But I tell you, look around you, and see how the fields are ripe for harvesting.G3004G3756G5210G3754G2076G2089G5072G2532G2064G2326G2400G3004G5213G1869G5216G3788G2532G2300G5561G3754G1526G3022G2235G4314G232636The reaper is already receiving wages and is gathering fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together.G2532G2325G2983G3408G2532G4863G2590G1519G2222G166G2443G2532G4687G2532G2325G5463G367437For here the saying holds true, 'One sows and another reaps.'G1063G1722G5129G2076G3056G228G3754G243G2076G4687G2532G243G232538I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor."G1473G649G5209G2325G3739G5210G2872G3756G2872G243G2872G2532G5210G1525G1519G846G287339Many Samaritans from that city believed in him because of the woman's testimony, "He told me everything I have ever done."G1161G4183G4541G1537G1565G4172G4100G1519G846G1223G3056G1135G3140G3754G2036G3427G3956G3745G416040So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them; and he stayed there two days.G3767G5613G4541G2064G4314G846G2065G846G3306G3844G846G2532G3306G1563G1417G225041And many more believed because of his word.G2532G4183G4119G4100G1223G846G305642They said to the woman, "It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is truly the Savior of the world."G5037G3004G1135G3754G3765G4100G3754G1223G4674G2981G1063G191G846G2532G1492G3754G3778G2076G230G5547G4990G2889

Jesus Returns to Galilee

43When the two days were over, he went from that place to GalileeG1161G3326G1417G2250G565G1831G1564G2532G1519G105644(for Jesus himself had testified that a prophet has no honor in the prophet's own country).G1063G2424G846G3140G3754G4396G2192G3756G5092G1722G2398G396845When he came to Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him, since they had seen all that he had done in Jerusalem at the festival; for they too had gone to the festival.G3767G3753G2064G1519G1056G1057G1209G846G3708G3956G3739G4160G1722G2414G1722G1859G1063G846G2532G2064G1519G1859

Jesus Heals an Official’s Son

46Then he came again to Cana in Galilee where he had changed the water into wine. Now there was a royal official whose son lay ill in Capernaum.G3767G2424G2064G3825G1519G2580G1056G3699G4160G5204G3631G2532G2258G5100G937G3739G5207G770G1722G258447When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went and begged him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death.G3778G191G3754G2424G2240G1537G2449G1519G1056G565G4314G846G2532G2065G846G2443G2597G2532G2390G846G5207G1063G3195G59948Then Jesus said to him, "Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe."G3767G2036G2424G4314G846G3362G1492G4592G2532G5059G4100G3364G410049The official said to him, "Sir, come down before my little boy dies."G937G3004G4314G846G2962G2597G4250G3450G3813G59950Jesus said to him, "Go; your son will live." The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and started on his way.G2424G3004G846G4198G4675G5207G2198G2532G444G4100G3056G3739G2424G2036G846G2532G419851As he was going down, his slaves met him and told him that his child was alive.G1161G846G2235G2597G846G1401G528G846G2532G518G3004G3754G4675G3816G219852So he asked them the hour when he began to recover, and they said to him, "Yesterday at one in the afternoon the fever left him."G3767G4441G3844G846G5610G1722G3739G2192G2866G2532G2036G846G3754G5504G1442G5610G4446G863G84653The father realized that this was the hour when Jesus had said to him, "Your son will live." So he himself believed, along with his whole household.G3767G3962G1097G3754G1722G1565G5610G1722G3739G2424G2036G846G3754G4675G5207G2198G2532G846G4100G2532G846G3650G361454Now this was the second sign that Jesus did after coming from Judea to Galilee.G5124G3825G1208G4592G2424G4160G2064G1537G2449G1519G1056
