Five Thousand Fed

6AFTER THIS, Jesus went to the farther side of the Sea of Galilee--that is, the Sea of Tiberias.G3326G5023G2424G565G4008G2281G1056G50852And a great crowd was following Him because they had seen the signs (miracles) which He [continually] performed upon those who were sick.G2532G4183G3793G190G846G3754G3708G846G4592G3739G4160G1909G7703And Jesus walked up the mountainside and sat down there with His disciples.G1161G2424G424G1519G3735G2532G1563G2521G3326G846G31014Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was approaching.G1161G3957G1859G2453G2258G14515Jesus looked up then, and seeing that a vast multitude was coming toward Him, He said to Philip, Where are we to buy bread, so that all these people may eat?G2424G3767G1869G3788G2532G2300G3754G4183G3793G2064G4314G846G3004G4314G5376G4159G59G740G2443G3778G53156But He said this to prove (test) him, for He well knew what He was about to do.G1161G5124G3004G3985G846G1063G846G1492G5101G3195G41607Philip answered Him, Two hundred pennies' (forty dollars) worth of bread is not enough that everyone may receive even a little.G5376G611G846G1250G1220G740G714G3756G714G846G2443G1538G846G2983G5100G10248Another of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to Him,G1520G1537G846G3101G406G4613G4074G80G3004G8469There is a little boy here, who has [with him] five barley loaves, and two small fish; but what are they among so many people?G2076G1520G3808G5602G3739G2192G4002G2916G740G2532G1417G3795G235G5101G2076G5023G1519G511810Jesus said, Make all the people recline (sit down). Now the ground (a pasture) was covered with thick grass at the spot, so the men threw themselves down, about 5,000 in number.G1161G2424G2036G4160G444G377G1161G2258G4183G5528G1722G5117G3767G435G377G706G5616G400011Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks, He distributed {to the disciples and the disciples} to the reclining people; so also [He did] with the fish, as much as they wanted.G1161G2424G2983G740G2532G2168G1239G3101G1161G3101G345G2532G3668G1537G3795G3745G230912When they had all had enough, He said to His disciples, Gather up now the fragments (the broken pieces that are left over), so that nothing may be lost {and} wasted.G1161G5613G1705G3004G846G3101G4863G2801G4052G3363G5100G62213So accordingly they gathered them up, and they filled twelve [small hand] baskets with fragments left over by those who had eaten from the five barley loaves.G3767G4863G2532G1072G1427G2894G2801G1537G4002G2916G740G3739G4052G97714When the people saw the sign (miracle) that Jesus had performed, they began saying, Surely {and} beyond a doubt this is the Prophet Who is to come into the world!G3767G444G1492G4592G3739G2424G4160G3004G3754G3778G2076G230G4396G2064G1519G2889

Jesus Walks on the Water

15Then Jesus, knowing that they meant to come and seize Him that they might make Him king, withdrew again to the hillside by Himself alone.G2424G3767G1097G3754G3195G2064G2532G726G846G726G2443G4160G846G935G402G3825G1519G3735G846G344116When evening came, His disciples went down to the sea,G1161G5613G3798G1096G846G3101G2597G1909G228117And they took a boat and were going across the sea to Capernaum. It was now dark, and still Jesus had not [yet] come back to them.G2532G1684G1519G4143G2064G4008G2281G1519G2584G2532G1096G2235G4653G2532G2424G2064G3756G2064G4314G84618Meanwhile, the sea was getting rough {and} rising high because of a great {and} violent wind that was blowing.G5037G2281G1326G3173G417G415419[However] when they had rowed three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and approaching the boat. And they were afraid (terrified).G3767G1643G5613G4002G1501G2228G5144G4712G2334G2424G4043G1909G2281G2532G1096G1451G4143G2532G539920But Jesus said to them, It is I; be not afraid! [I AM; stop being frightened!]G1161G3004G846G1510G1473G5399G3361G539921Then they were quite willing {and} glad for Him to come into the boat. And now the boat went at once to the land they had steered toward. [And immediately they reached the shore toward which they had been slowly making their way.]G3767G2309G2983G846G1519G4143G2532G2112G4143G1096G1909G1093G1519G3739G521722The next day the crowd [that still remained] standing on the other side of the sea realized that there had been only one small boat there, and that Jesus had not gone into it with His disciples, but that His disciples had gone away by themselves.G1887G3793G3588G2476G4008G2281G1492G3754G2258G3756G243G4142G1563G1508G1565G1520G1519G3739G846G3101G1684G2532G3754G2424G4897G3756G4897G846G3101G1519G4142G235G846G3101G565G344123But now some other boats from Tiberias had come in near the place where they ate the bread after the Lord had given thanks.G235G1161G2064G243G4142G1537G5085G1451G5117G3699G5315G740G2962G216824So the people, finding that neither Jesus nor His disciples were there, themselves got into the small boats and came to Capernaum looking for Jesus.G3753G3793G3767G1492G3754G2424G2076G3756G1563G3761G846G3101G846G2532G1684G1519G4143G2532G2064G1519G2584G2212G242425And when they found Him on the other side of the lake, they said to Him, Rabbi! When did You come here?G2532G2147G846G4008G2281G2036G846G4461G4219G1096G5602

Words to the People

26Jesus answered them, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, you have been searching for Me, not because you saw the miracles {and} signs but because you were fed with the loaves and were filled {and} satisfied.G2424G611G846G2532G2036G281G281G3004G5213G2212G3165G3756G3754G1492G4592G235G3754G5315G1537G740G2532G552627Stop toiling {and} doing {and} producing for the food that perishes {and} decomposes [in the using], but strive {and} work {and} produce rather for the [lasting] food which endures [continually] unto life eternal; the Son of Man will give (furnish) you that, for God the Father has authorized {and} certified Him {and} put His seal of endorsement upon Him.G2038G3361G1035G3588G622G235G1035G3588G3306G1519G166G2222G3739G5207G444G1325G5213G1063G5126G4972G2316G3962G497228They then said, What are we to do, that we may [habitually] be working the works of God? [What are we to do to carry out what God requires?]G3767G2036G4314G846G5101G4160G4160G2443G2038G2041G231629Jesus replied, This is the work (service) that God asks of you: that you believe in the One Whom He has sent [that you cleave to, trust, rely on, and have faith in His Messenger].G2424G611G2532G2036G846G5124G2076G2041G2316G2443G4100G1519G3739G1565G64930Therefore they said to Him, What sign (miracle, wonderwork) will You perform then, so that we may see it and believe {and} rely on {and} adhere to You? What [supernatural] work have You [to show what You can do]?G2036G3767G846G5101G4592G4160G4771G3767G2443G1492G2532G4100G4671G5101G203831Our forefathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as the Scripture says, He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.G2257G3962G5315G3131G1722G2048G2531G2076G1125G1325G846G740G1537G3772G531532Jesus then said to them, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, Moses did not give you the Bread from heaven [what Moses gave you was not the Bread from heaven], but it is My Father Who gives you the true heavenly Bread.G3767G2424G2036G846G281G281G3004G5213G3475G1325G5213G3756G740G1537G3772G235G3450G3962G1325G5213G228G740G1537G377233For the Bread of God is He Who comes down out of heaven and gives life to the world.G1063G740G2316G2076G3588G2597G1537G3772G2532G1325G2222G288934Then they said to Him, Lord, give us this bread always (all the time)!G3767G2036G4314G846G2962G3842G1325G2254G5126G74035Jesus replied, I am the Bread of Life. He who comes to Me will never be hungry, and he who believes in {and} cleaves to {and} trusts in {and} relies on Me will never thirst any more (at any time).G1161G2424G2036G846G1473G1510G740G2222G2064G4314G3165G3364G3983G2532G4100G1519G1691G1372G3364G4455G137236But [as] I told you, although you have seen Me, still you do not believe {and} trust {and} have faith.G235G2036G5213G3754G3708G2532G3708G3165G2532G4100G375637All whom My Father gives (entrusts) to Me will come to Me; and the one who comes to Me I will most certainly not cast out [I will never, no never, reject one of them who comes to Me].G3956G3739G3962G1325G3427G2240G4314G1691G2532G2064G4314G3165G1544G3364G1544G185438For I have come down from heaven not to do My own will {and} purpose but to do the will {and} purpose of Him Who sent Me.G3754G2597G1537G3772G3756G2443G4160G1699G2307G235G2307G3992G316539And this is the will of Him Who sent Me, that I should not lose any of all that He has given Me, but that I should give new life {and} raise [them all] up at the last day.G1161G5124G2076G3962G2307G3588G3992G3165G2443G3956G3739G1325G3427G622G3361G1537G846G235G450G846G450G1722G2078G225040For this is My Father's will {and} His purpose, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in {and} cleaves to {and} trusts in {and} relies on Him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up [from the dead] at the last day.G1161G5124G2076G2307G3992G3165G2443G3956G3588G2334G5207G2532G4100G1519G846G2192G166G2222G2532G1473G450G846G450G2078G2250

Words to the Jews

41Now the Jews murmured {and} found fault with {and} grumbled about Jesus because He said, I am [Myself] the Bread that came down from heaven.G2453G3767G1111G4012G846G3754G2036G1473G1510G740G3588G2597G1537G377242They kept asking, Is not this Jesus, the Son of Joseph, Whose father and mother we know? How then can He say, I have come down from heaven?G2532G3004G2076G3756G3778G2424G5207G2501G3739G3962G2532G3384G2249G1492G4459G3767G3778G3004G3754G2597G1537G377243So Jesus answered them, Stop grumbling {and} saying things against Me to one another.G2424G3767G611G2532G2036G846G1111G3361G3326G24044No one is able to come to Me unless the Father Who sent Me attracts {and} draws him {and} gives him the desire to come to Me, and [then] I will raise him up [from the dead] at the last day.G3762G1410G2064G4314G3165G3362G3962G3588G3992G3165G1670G846G2532G1473G450G846G450G2078G225045It is written in [the book of] the Prophets, And they shall all be taught of God [have Him in person for their Teacher]. Everyone who has listened to and learned from the Father comes to Me--G2076G1125G1722G4396G2532G2071G3956G1318G2316G3956G3767G191G2532G3129G3844G3962G2064G4314G316546Which does not imply that anyone has seen the Father [not that anyone has ever seen Him] except He [Who was with the Father] Who comes from God; He [alone] has seen the Father.G3756G3754G5100G3708G3962G1508G3588G3844G5607G2316G3778G3708G396247I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, he who believes {in Me} [who adheres to, trusts in, relies on, and has faith in Me] has (now possesses) eternal life.G281G281G3004G5213G4100G1519G1691G2192G166G222248I am the Bread of Life [that gives life--the Living Bread].G1473G1510G740G222249Your forefathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and [yet] they died.G5216G3962G5315G3131G1722G2048G2532G59950[But] this is the Bread that comes down from heaven, so that [any]one may eat of it and never die.G3778G2076G740G3588G2597G1537G3772G3363G5100G5315G1537G846G2532G3363G59951I [Myself] am this Living Bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this Bread, he will live forever; and also the Bread that I shall give for the life of the world is My flesh (body).G1473G1510G2198G740G3588G2597G1537G3772G1437G5100G5315G1537G5127G740G2198G1519G165G1161G2532G740G3739G1473G1325G2076G3450G4561G3739G1473G1325G5228G2222G288952Then the Jews angrily contended with one another, saying, How is He able to give us His flesh to eat?G2453G3767G3164G4314G240G3004G4459G1410G3778G1325G2254G4561G531553And Jesus said to them, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, you cannot have any life in you unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood [unless you appropriate His life and the saving merit of His blood].G3767G2424G2036G846G281G281G3004G5213G3362G5315G4561G5207G444G2532G4095G846G129G2192G3756G2222G1722G143854He who feeds on My flesh and drinks My blood has (possesses now) eternal life, and I will raise him up [from the dead] on the last day.G5176G3450G4561G2532G4095G3450G129G2192G166G2222G2532G1473G450G846G450G2078G225055For My flesh is true {and} genuine food, and My blood is true {and} genuine drink.G1063G3450G4561G2076G1035G230G2532G3450G129G2076G4213G23056He who feeds on My flesh and drinks My blood dwells continually in Me, and I [in like manner dwell continually] in him.G5176G3450G4561G2532G4095G3450G129G3306G1722G1698G2504G1722G84657Just as the living Father sent Me and I live by (through, because of) the Father, even so whoever continues to feed on Me [whoever takes Me for his food {and} is nourished by Me] shall [in his turn] live through {and} because of Me.G2531G2198G3962G649G3165G2504G2198G1223G3962G2532G5176G3165G2548G2198G1223G169158This is the Bread that came down from heaven. It is not like the manna which our forefathers ate, and yet died; he who takes this Bread for his food shall live forever.G3778G2076G740G3588G2597G1537G3772G3756G2531G5216G3962G5315G3131G2532G599G5176G5126G740G2198G1519G165

Words to the Disciples

59He said these things in a synagogue while He was teaching at Capernaum.G5023G2036G1722G4864G1321G1722G258460When His disciples heard this, many of them said, This is a hard {and} difficult {and} strange saying (an offensive and unbearable message). Who can stand to hear it? [Who can be expected to listen to such teaching?]G4183G3767G1537G846G3101G191G2036G3778G2076G4642G3056G5101G1410G191G84661But Jesus, knowing within Himself that His disciples were complaining {and} protesting {and} grumbling about it, said to them: Is this a stumbling block {and} an offense to you? [Does this upset and displease and shock and scandalize you?]G1161G2424G1492G1722G1438G3754G846G3101G1111G4012G5127G2036G846G5124G4624G520962What then [will be your reaction] if you should see the Son of Man ascending to [the place] where He was before?G3767G1437G2334G5207G444G305G3699G2258G438663It is the Spirit Who gives life [He is the Life-giver]; the flesh conveys no benefit whatever [there is no profit in it]. The words (truths) that I have been speaking to you are spirit and life.G2076G4151G2227G4561G3756G5623G3762G4487G3739G1473G2980G5213G2076G4151G2532G2076G222264But [still] some of you fail to believe {and} trust {and} have faith. For Jesus knew from the first who did not believe {and} had no faith and who would betray Him {and} be false to Him.G235G1526G5100G1537G5216G3739G4100G3756G1063G2424G1492G1537G746G5101G1526G4100G3361G2532G5101G2076G3860G84665And He said, This is why I told you that no one can come to Me unless it is granted him [unless he is enabled to do so] by the Father.G2532G3004G1223G5124G2046G5213G3754G3762G1410G2064G4314G3165G3362G5600G1325G846G1537G3450G3962

Peter’s Confession of Faith

66After this, many of His disciples drew back (returned to their old associations) and no longer accompanied Him.G1537G5127G4183G846G3101G565G1519G3694G2532G4043G3765G3326G84667Jesus said to the Twelve, Will you also go away? [And do you too desire to leave Me?]G3767G2036G2424G1427G3361G2309G5210G2532G521768Simon Peter answered, Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words (the message) of eternal life.G3767G4613G4074G611G846G2962G4314G5101G565G2192G4487G166G222269And we have learned to believe {and} trust, and [more] we have come to know [surely] that You are {the Holy One of God}, the Christ (the Anointed One), the Son of the living God.G2532G2249G4100G2532G1097G3754G4771G1488G5547G5207G2198G231670Jesus answered them, Did I not choose you, the Twelve? And [yet] one of you is a devil (of the evil one and a false accuser).G2424G611G846G1586G3756G1473G1586G5209G1427G2532G1520G1537G5216G2076G122871He was speaking of Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, for he was about to betray Him, [although] he was one of the Twelve.G1161G3004G2455G2469G4613G1063G3778G3195G3860G846G5607G1520G1537G1427
