Joshua 24
King James Version

The Covenant at Shechem

24And Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and called for the elders of Israel, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers; and they presented themselves before God.H3091H622H7626H3478H7927H7121H2205H3478H7218H8199H7860H3320H6440H430 2And Joshua said unto all the people, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Your fathers dwelt on the other side of the flood in old time, even Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nachor: and they served other gods.H3091H559H5971H559H3068H430H3478H1H3427H5676H5104H5769H8646H1H85H1H5152H5647H312H430 3And I took your father Abraham from the other side of the flood, and led him throughout all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his seed, and gave him Isaac.H3947H1H85H5676H5104H3212H776H3667H7235H2233H5414H3327 4And I gave unto Isaac Jacob and Esau: and I gave unto Esau mount Seir, to possess it; but Jacob and his children went down into Egypt.H5414H3327H3290H6215H5414H6215H2022H8165H3423H3290H1121H3381H4714 5I sent Moses also and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt, according to that which I did among them: and afterward I brought you out.H7971H4872H175H5062H4714H834H6213H7130H310H3318 6And I brought your fathers out of Egypt: and ye came unto the sea; and the Egyptians pursued after your fathers with chariots and horsemen unto the Red sea.H3318H1H4714H935H3220H4714H7291H310H1H7393H6571H5488H3220 7And when they cried unto the LORD, he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought the sea upon them, and covered them; and your eyes have seen what I have done in Egypt: and ye dwelt in the wilderness a long season.H6817H3068H7760H3990H4713H935H3220H3680H5869H7200H6213H4714H3427H4057H7227H3117 8And I brought you into the land of the Amorites, which dwelt on the other side Jordan; and they fought with you: and I gave them into your hand, that ye might possess their land; and I destroyed them from before you.H935H776H567H3427H5676H3383H3898H5414H3027H3423H776H8045H6440 9Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and warred against Israel, and sent and called Balaam the son of Beor to curse you:H1111H1121H6834H4428H4124H6965H3898H3478H7971H7121H1109H1121H1160H7043 10But I would not hearken unto Balaam; therefore he blessed you still: so I delivered you out of his hand.H14H8085H1109H1288H1288H5337H3027 11And you went over Jordan, and came unto Jericho: and the men of Jericho fought against you, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; and I delivered them into your hand.H5674H3383H935H3405H1167H3405H3898H567H6522H3669H2850H1622H2340H2983H5414H3027 12And I sent the hornet before you, which drave them out from before you, even the two kings of the Amorites; but not with thy sword, nor with thy bow.H7971H6880H6440H1644H6440H8147H4428H567H2719H7198 13And I have given you a land for which ye did not labour, and cities which ye built not, and ye dwell in them; of the vineyards and oliveyards which ye planted not do ye eat.H5414H776H3021H5892H1129H3427H3754H2132H5193H398 14Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD.H3372H3068H5647H8549H571H5493H430H1H5647H5676H5104H4714H5647H3068 15And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.H7489H4310H5647H3068H977H3117H5869H5647H430H1H5647H5676H5104H430H567H776H3427H1004H5647H3068 16And the people answered and said, God forbid that we should forsake the LORD, to serve other gods;H5971H6030H559H2486H5800H3068H5647H312H430 17For the LORD our God, he it is that brought us up and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, and which did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way wherein we went, and among all the people through whom we passed:H3068H430H5927H1H776H4714H1004H5650H6213H1419H226H5869H8104H1870H1980H5971H7130H5674 18And the LORD drave out from before us all the people, even the Amorites which dwelt in the land: therefore will we also serve the LORD; for he is our God.H3068H1644H6440H5971H567H3427H776H5647H3068H430 19And Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve the LORD: for he is an holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins.H3091H559H5971H3201H5647H3068H6918H430H7072H410H5375H6588H2403 20If ye forsake the LORD, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you hurt, and consume you, after that he hath done you good.H5800H3068H5647H5236H430H7725H7489H3615H310H3190 21And the people said unto Joshua, Nay; but we will serve the LORD.H5971H559H3091H5647H3068 22And Joshua said unto the people, Ye are witnesses against yourselves that ye have chosen you the LORD, to serve him. And they said, We are witnesses.H3091H559H5971H5707H977H3068H5647H559H5707 23Now therefore put away, said he, the strange gods which are among you, and incline your heart unto the LORD God of Israel.H5493H5236H430H7130H5186H3824H3068H430H3478 24And the people said unto Joshua, The LORD our God will we serve, and his voice will we obey.H5971H559H3091H3068H430H5647H6963H8085 25So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and set them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem.H3091H3772H1285H5971H3117H7760H2706H4941H7927 26And Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God, and took a great stone, and set it up there under an oak, that was by the sanctuary of the LORD.H3091H3789H1697H5612H8451H430H3947H1419H68H6965H427H4720H3068 27And Joshua said unto all the people, Behold, this stone shall be a witness unto us; for it hath heard all the words of the LORD which he spake unto us: it shall be therefore a witness unto you, lest ye deny your God.H3091H559H5971H68H5713H8085H561H3068H1696H5713H3584H430 28So Joshua let the people depart, every man unto his inheritance.H3091H5971H7971H376H5159

Death of Joshua and Eleazar

29And it came to pass after these things, that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being an hundred and ten years old.H310H1697H3091H1121H5126H5650H3068H4191H3967H6235H8141H1121 30And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnathserah, which is in mount Ephraim, on the north side of the hill of Gaash.H6912H1366H5159H8556H2022H669H6828H2022H1608 31And Israel served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that overlived Joshua, and which had known all the works of the LORD, that he had done for Israel.H3478H5647H3068H3117H3091H3117H2205H748H3117H310H3091H3045H4639H3068H6213H3478 32And the bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel brought up out of Egypt, buried they in Shechem, in a parcel of ground which Jacob bought of the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for an hundred pieces of silver: and it became the inheritance of the children of Joseph.H6106H3130H1121H3478H5927H4714H6912H7927H2513H7704H3290H7069H1121H2544H1H7927H3967H7192H5159H1121H3130 33And Eleazar the son of Aaron died; and they buried him in a hill that pertained to Phinehas his son, which was given him in mount Ephraim.H499H1121H175H4191H6912H1389H6372H1121H5414H2022H669
