Joshua 11

Conquest of Northern Cities

11When Jabin king of Hazor heard [this news], he sent [a message] to: Jobab king of Madon, the kings of Shimron and Achshaph,H2985H4428H2674H8085H7971H3103H4428H4068H4428H8110H4428H4072and the kings of the north in the hill country, the plain south of Chinnereth, the Judean foothills, and the Slopes of Dor to the west,H4428H6828H2022H6160H5045H3672H8219H5299H1756H32203the Canaanites in the east and west, the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, and Jebusites in the hill country, and the Hivites at the foot of Hermon in the land of Mizpah.H3669H4217H3220H567H2850H6522H2983H2022H2340H2768H776H47094They went out with all their armies— a multitude as numerous as the sand on the seashore— along with a vast number of horses and chariots.H3318H4264H7227H5971H2344H3220H8193H7230H5483H7393H3966H72275All these kings joined forces; they came together and camped at the waters of Merom to attack Israel.H4428H3259H935H2583H3162H4325H4792H3898H34786The LORD said to Joshua, "Do not be afraid of them, for at this time tomorrow I will hand all of them over dead to Israel. You are to hamstring their horses and burn up their chariots."H3068H559H3091H3372H6440H4279H6256H5414H2491H6440H3478H6131H5483H8313H4818H7847So Joshua and his whole military force surprised them at the waters of Merom and attacked them.H3091H935H5971H4421H4325H4792H6597H53078The LORD handed them over to Israel, and they struck them down, pursuing them as far as Great Sidon and Misrephoth-maim, and to the east as far as the valley of Mizpeh. They struck them down, leaving no survivors.H3068H5414H3027H3478H5221H7291H7227H6721H4956H1237H4708H4217H5221H7604H83009Joshua treated them as the LORD had told him; he hamstrung their horses and burned up their chariots.H3091H6213H3068H559H6131H5483H8313H4818H78410At that time Joshua turned back, captured Hazor, and struck down its king with the sword, because Hazor had formerly been the leader of all these kingdoms.H3091H6256H7725H3920H2674H5221H4428H2719H2674H6440H7218H446711They struck down everyone in it with the sword, completely destroying them; he left no one alive. Then he burned down Hazor.H5221H5315H6310H2719H2763H3498H5397H8313H2674H78412Joshua captured all these kings and their cities and struck them down with the sword. He completely destroyed them, as Moses the LORD's servant had commanded.H5892H4428H4428H3091H3920H5221H6310H2719H2763H4872H5650H3068H668013However, Israel did not burn any of the cities that stood on their mounds except Hazor, which Joshua burned.H5892H5975H8510H3478H8313H2108H2674H3091H831314The Israelites plundered all the spoils and cattle of these cities for themselves. But they struck down every person with the sword until they had annihilated them, leaving no one alive.H7998H5892H929H1121H3478H962H120H5221H6310H2719H8045H7604H539715Just as the LORD had commanded His servant Moses, Moses commanded Joshua. That is what Joshua did, leaving nothing undone of all that the LORD had commanded Moses.H3068H6680H4872H5650H4872H6680H3091H6213H3091H5493H1697H5493H3068H6680H4872

Summary of Conquests

16So Joshua took all this land— the hill country, all the Negev, all the land of Goshen, the Judean foothills, the plain, and the hill country of Israel with its Judean foothills—H3091H3947H776H2022H5045H776H1657H8219H6160H2022H3478H821917from Mount Halak, which ascends to Seir, as far as Baal-gad in the Valley of Lebanon at the foot of Mount Hermon. He captured all their kings and struck them down, putting them to death.H2022H2510H5927H8165H1171H1237H3844H2022H2768H4428H3920H5221H419118Joshua waged war with all these kings for a long time.H3091H6213H4421H7227H3117H442819No city made peace with the Israelites except the Hivites who inhabited Gibeon; all of them were taken in battle.H5892H7999H1121H3478H2340H3427H1391H3947H442120For it was the LORD's intention to harden their hearts, so that they would engage Israel in battle, be completely destroyed without mercy, and be annihilated, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.H3068H2388H3820H7125H3478H4421H2763H8467H8045H3068H6680H487221At that time Joshua proceeded to exterminate the Anakim from the hill country— Hebron, Debir, Anab— all the hill country of Judah and of Israel. Joshua completely destroyed them with their cities.H6256H935H3091H3772H6062H2022H2275H1688H6024H2022H3063H2022H3478H3091H2763H589222No Anakim were left in the land of the Israelites, except for some remaining in Gaza, Gath, and Ashdod.H6062H3498H776H1121H3478H5804H1661H795H760423So Joshua took the entire land, in keeping with all that the LORD had told Moses. Joshua then gave it as an inheritance to Israel according to their tribal allotments. After this, the land had rest from war.H3091H3947H776H3068H1696H4872H3091H5414H5159H3478H4256H7626H776H8252H4421

Prayer Tents is a Christian mission organization that serves Christians around the world and their local bodies to make disciples ("evangelize") more effectively in their communities. Prayer Tents provides resources to enable Christians to form discipleship-focused small groups and make their gatherings known so that other "interested" people may participate and experience Christ in their midst. Our Vision is to make disciples in all nations through the local churches so that anyone seeking God can come to know Him through relationships with other Christians near them.
