Gideon’s 300 Chosen Men

7Then Jerubbaal (that is, Gideon) and all the people who were with him, rose early and camped beside the spring of Harod; and the camp of Midian was on the north side of them by the hill of Moreh in the valley.H3378H1439H5971H7925H2583H5878H4264H4080H6828H1389H4176H60102And the LORD said to Gideon, "The people who are with you are too many for Me to give Midian into their hands, lest Israel become boastful, saying, 'My own power has delivered me.'H3068H559H1439H5971H7227H5414H4080H3027H3478H6286H559H3027H34673"Now therefore come, proclaim in the hearing of the people, saying, ' Whoever is afraid and trembling, let him return and depart from Mount Gilead. '"So 220000 people returned, but 100000 remained.H4994H7121H241H5971H559H3373H2730H7725H6852H2022H1568H7725H5971H6242H8147H505H7604H6235H5054Then the LORD said to Gideon, "The people are still too many; bring them down to the water and I will test them for you there. Therefore it shall be that he of whom I say to you, 'This one shall go with you,' he shall go with you; but everyone of whom I say to you, 'This one shall not go with you,' he shall not go."H3068H559H1439H5971H7227H3381H4325H6884H559H3212H3212H559H3212H32125So he brought the people down to the water. And the LORD said to Gideon, "You shall separate everyone who laps the water with his tongue, as a dog laps, as well as everyone who kneels to drink."H3381H5971H4325H3068H559H1439H3952H4325H3956H3611H3952H3322H3766H1290H83546Now the number of those who lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, was 300 men; but all the rest of the people kneeled to drink water.H4557H3952H3027H6310H7969H3967H376H3499H5971H3766H1290H8354H43257And the LORD said to Gideon, "I will deliver you with the 300 men who lapped and will give the Midianites into your hands; so let all the [other] people go, each man to his home."H3068H559H1439H7969H3967H376H3952H3467H5414H4080H3027H5971H3212H376H47258So the 300 men took the people's provisions and their trumpets into their hands. And Gideon sent all the [other] men of Israel, each to his tent, but retained the 300 men; and the camp of Midian was below him in the valley.H5971H3947H6720H3027H7782H7971H376H3478H376H168H2388H7969H3967H376H4264H4080H60109Now the same night it came about that the LORD said to him, "Arise, go down against the camp, for I have given it into your hands.H3915H3068H559H6965H3381H4264H5414H302710"But if you are afraid to go down, go with Purah your servant down to the camp,H3373H3381H3381H6513H5288H3381H426411and you will hear what they say; and afterward your hands will be strengthened that you may go down against the camp. "So he went with Purah his servant down to the outposts of the army that was in the camp.H8085H1696H310H3027H2388H3381H4264H3381H6513H5288H7097H2571H426412Now the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the sons of the east were lying in the valley as numerous as locusts; and their camels were without number, as numerous as the sand on the seashore.H4080H6002H1121H6924H5307H6010H697H7230H1581H4557H2344H3220H8193H723013When Gideon came, behold, a man was relating a dream to his friend. And he said, "Behold, I had a dream; a loaf of barley bread was tumbling into the camp of Midian, and it came to the tent and struck it so that it fell, and turned it upside down so that the tent lay flat."H1439H935H376H5608H2472H7453H559H2492H2472H6742H6742H8184H3899H2015H4264H4080H935H168H5221H5307H2015H4605H168H530714And his friend answered and said, "This is nothing less than the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel; God has given Midian and all the camp into his hand."H7453H6030H559H2719H1439H1121H3101H376H3478H3027H430H5414H4080H426415And it came about when Gideon heard the account of the dream and its interpretation, that he bowed in worship. He returned to the camp of Israel and said, "Arise, for the LORD has given the camp of Midian into your hands."H1439H8085H4557H2472H7667H7812H7725H4264H3478H559H6965H3068H5414H3027H4264H408016And he divided the 300 men into three companies, and he put trumpets and empty pitchers into the hands of all of them, with torches inside the pitchers.H2673H7969H3967H376H7969H7218H5414H7782H3027H7386H3537H3940H8432H353717And he said to them, "Look at me, and do likewise. And behold, when I come to the outskirts of the camp, do as I do.H559H7200H6213H935H7097H4264H6213H621318"When I and all who are with me blow the trumpet, then you also blow the trumpets all around the camp, and say, 'For the LORD and for Gideon.'"H8628H7782H8628H7782H5439H4264H559H3068H1439

Confusion of the Enemy

19So Gideon and the hundred men who were with him came to the outskirts of the camp at the beginning of the middle watch, when they had just posted the watch; and they blew the trumpets and smashed the pitchers that were in their hands.H1439H3967H376H935H7097H4264H7218H8484H821H389H6965H6965H8104H8628H7782H5310H3537H302720When the three companies blew the trumpets and broke the pitchers, they held the torches in their left hands and the trumpets in their right hands for blowing, and cried, "A sword for the LORD and for Gideon!"H7969H7218H8628H7782H7665H3537H2388H3940H8040H3027H7782H3225H3027H8628H7121H2719H3068H143921And each stood in his place around the camp; and all the army ran, crying out as they fled.H5975H376H5439H4264H4264H7323H7321H5127H512722And when they blew 300 trumpets, the LORD set the sword of one against another even throughout the whole army; and the army fled as far as Beth-shittah toward Zererah, as far as the edge of Abel-meholah, by Tabbath.H7969H3967H8628H7782H3068H7760H376H2719H7453H4264H4264H5127H1029H6888H8193H65H288823And the men of Israel were summoned from Naphtali and Asher and all Manasseh, and they pursued Midian.H376H3478H6817H5321H836H4519H7291H310H408024And Gideon sent messengers throughout all the hill country of Ephraim, saying, "Come down against Midian and take the waters before them, as far as Beth-barah and the Jordan." So all the men of Ephraim were summoned, and they took the waters as far as Beth-barah and the Jordan.H1439H7971H4397H2022H669H559H3381H7125H4080H3920H4325H1012H3383H376H669H6817H3920H4325H1012H338325And they captured the two leaders of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb, and they killed Oreb at the rock of Oreb, and they killed Zeeb at the wine press of Zeeb, while they pursued Midian; and they brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon from across the Jordan.H3920H8147H8269H4080H6159H2062H2026H6159H6697H6159H2062H2026H3342H2062H7291H4080H935H7218H6159H2062H1439H5676H3383

Prayer Tents is a Christian mission organization that serves Christians around the world and their local bodies to make disciples ("evangelize") more effectively in their communities. Prayer Tents provides resources to enable Christians to form discipleship-focused small groups and make their gatherings known so that other "interested" people may participate and experience Christ in their midst. Our Vision is to make disciples in all nations through the local churches so that anyone seeking God can come to know Him through relationships with other Christians near them.
