The Penalty for Blasphemy

10Now the son of an Israelite woman, whose father was an Egyptian, went out among the children of Israel; and this Israelite woman's son and a man of Israel fought each other in the camp.H1121H3482H802H1121H376H4713H3318H8432H1121H3478H3481H1121H3482H376H3478H5327H426411And the Israelite woman's son blasphemed the name of the Lord and cursed; and so they brought him to Moses. (His mother's name was Shelomith the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan.)H3482H802H1121H5344H8034H7043H935H4872H517H8034H8019H1323H1704H4294H183512Then they put him in custody, that the mind of the LORD might be shown to them.H3240H4929H6310H3068H656713And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,H3068H1696H4872H55914"Take outside the camp him who has cursed; then let all who heard him lay their hands on his head, and let all the congregation stone him.H3318H7043H2351H4264H8085H5564H3027H7218H5712H727515"Then you shall speak to the children of Israel, saying: 'Whoever curses his God shall bear his sin.H1696H1121H3478H559H376H3588H7043H430H5375H239916'And whoever blasphemes the name of the LORD shall surely be put to death. All the congregation shall certainly stone him, the stranger as well as him who is born in the land. When he blasphemes the name of the Lord, he shall be put to death.H5344H8034H3068H4191H4191H5712H7275H7275H1616H249H5344H8034H419117'Whoever kills any man shall surely be put to death.H376H5221H5315H120H4191H419118'Whoever kills an animal shall make it good, animal for animal.H5221H5315H929H7999H5315H531519'If a man causes disfigurement of his neighbor, as he has done, so shall it be done to him—H376H5414H3971H5997H6213H621320'fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth; as he has caused disfigurement of a man, so shall it be done to him.H7667H7667H5869H5869H8127H8127H5414H3971H120H541421'And whoever kills an animal shall restore it; but whoever kills a man shall be put to death.H5221H929H7999H5221H120H419122'You shall have the same law for the stranger and for one from your own country; for I am the LORD your God.'"H259H4941H1616H249H3068H43023Then Moses spoke to the children of Israel; and they took outside the camp him who had cursed, and stoned him with stones. Prayer Tents is a Christian mission organization that serves Christians around the world and their local bodies to make disciples ("evangelize") more effectively in their communities. Prayer Tents provides resources to enable Christians to form discipleship-focused small groups and make their gatherings known so that other "interested" people may participate and experience Christ in their midst. Our Vision is to make disciples in all nations through the local churches so that anyone seeking God can come to know Him through relationships with other Christians near them.
