Risen from the Dead

28After the Sabbath, as the first light of the new week dawned, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to keep vigil at the tomb.G1161G3796G4521G2020G1519G3391G4521G2064G3137G3094G2532G243G3137G2334G5028 2Suddenly the earth reeled and rocked under their feet as God's angel came down from heaven, came right up to where they were standing. He rolled back the stone and then sat on it.G2532G2400G1096G3173G4578G1063G32G2962G2597G1537G3772G4334G617G3037G575G2374G2532G2521G1883G846 3Shafts of lightning blazed from him. His garments shimmered snow-white.G1161G846G2397G2258G5613G796G2532G846G1742G3022G5616G5510 4The guards at the tomb were scared to death. They were so frightened, they couldn't move.G1161G575G5401G846G5083G4579G2532G1096G5616G3498 5The angel spoke to the women: "There is nothing to fear here. I know you're looking for Jesus, the One they nailed to the cross.G1161G32G611G2036G1135G5399G3361G5210G1063G1492G3754G2212G2424G3588G4717 6He is not here. He was raised, just as he said. Come and look at the place where he was placed.G2076G3756G5602G1063G1453G2531G2036G1205G1492G5117G3699G2962G2749 7"Now, get on your way quickly and tell his disciples, 'He is risen from the dead. He is going on ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there.' That's the message."G2532G4198G5035G2036G846G3101G3754G1453G575G3498G2532G2400G4254G5209G1519G1056G1563G3700G846G2400G2036G5213 8The women, deep in wonder and full of joy, lost no time in leaving the tomb. They ran to tell the disciples.G2532G1831G5035G575G3419G3326G5401G2532G3173G5479G5143G518G846G3101G518 9Then Jesus met them, stopping them in their tracks. "Good morning!" he said. They fell to their knees, embraced his feet, and worshiped him.G1161G5613G4198G518G846G3101G2532G2400G2424G528G846G3004G5463G1161G4334G2902G846G4228G2532G4352G846 10Jesus said, "You're holding on to me for dear life! Don't be frightened like that. Go tell my brothers that they are to go to Galilee, and that I'll meet them there."G5119G3004G2424G846G5399G3361G5399G565G518G3450G80G2443G5217G1519G1056G2546G3700G3165 11Meanwhile, the guards had scattered, but a few of them went into the city and told the high priests everything that had happened.G1161G846G4198G2400G5100G2892G2064G1519G4172G518G749G537G1096 12They called a meeting of the religious leaders and came up with a plan: They took a large sum of money and gave it to the soldiers,G2532G4863G3326G4245G5037G2983G4824G1325G2425G694G4757 13bribing them to say, "His disciples came in the night and stole the body while we were sleeping."G3004G2036G3754G846G3101G2064G3571G2813G846G2257G2837 14They assured them, "If the governor hears about your sleeping on duty, we will make sure you don't get blamed."G2532G1437G5124G191G1909G2232G191G2249G3982G846G2532G275G4160G5209 15The soldiers took the bribe and did as they were told. That story, cooked up in the Jewish High Council, is still going around.G1161G2983G694G4160G5613G1321G2532G3778G3056G1310G3844G2453G3360G4594 16Meanwhile, the eleven disciples were on their way to Galilee, headed for the mountain Jesus had set for their reunion.G1161G1733G3101G4198G1519G1056G1519G3735G3757G2424G5021G846 17The moment they saw him they worshiped him. Some, though, held back, not sure about worship, about risking themselves totally.G2532G1492G846G4352G846G1161G1365 18Jesus, undeterred, went right ahead and gave his charge: "God authorized and commanded me to commission you:G2532G2424G4334G2980G846G3004G3956G1849G1325G3427G1722G3772G2532G1909G1093 19Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.G4198G3767G3100G3956G1484G907G846G1519G3686G3962G2532G5207G2532G40G4151 20Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I'll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age."G1321G846G5083G3956G3745G1781G5213G2532G2400G1473G1510G3326G5216G3956G2250G2193G4930G165G281
