Numbers 11

The People Complain

11AND THE people grumbled {and} deplored their hardships, which was evil in the ears of the Lord, and when the Lord heard it, His anger was kindled; and the fire of the Lord burned among them and devoured those in the outlying parts of the camp.H5971H596H7451H241H3068H3068H8085H639H2734H784H3068H1197H398H7097H42642The people cried to Moses, and when Moses prayed to the Lord, the fire subsided.H5971H6817H4872H4872H6419H3068H784H82573He called the name of the place Taberah [burning], because the fire of the Lord burned among them.H7121H8034H1931H4725H8404H784H3068H11974And the mixed multitude among them [the rabble who followed Israel from Egypt] began to lust greatly [for familiar and dainty food], and the Israelites wept again and said, Who will give us meat to eat?H628H7130H183H8378H1121H3478H1058H7725H559H1320H3985We remember the fish we ate freely in Egypt {and} without cost, the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions, and garlic.H2142H1710H398H4714H2600H7180H20H2682H1211H77626But now our soul (our strength) is dried up; there is nothing at all [in the way of food] to be seen but this manna.H5315H3002H1115H4478H58697The manna was like coriander seed and its appearance was like that of bdellium [perhaps a precious stone].H4478H1407H2233H5869H5869H9168The people went about and gathered it, and ground it in mills or beat it in mortars, and boiled it in pots, and made cakes of it; and it tasted like cakes baked with fresh oil.H5971H7751H3950H2912H7347H1743H4085H1310H6517H6213H5692H2940H2940H3955H80819And when the dew fell on the camp in the night, the manna fell with it.H2919H3381H4264H3915H4478H3381

The Complaint of Moses

10And Moses heard the people weeping throughout their families, every man at the door of his tent; and the anger of the Lord blazed hotly, and in the eyes of Moses it was evil.H4872H8085H5971H1058H4940H376H6607H168H639H3068H2734H3966H4872H7489H586911And Moses said to the Lord, Why have You dealt ill with Your servants? And why have I not found favor in Your sight, that You lay the burden of all this people on me?H4872H559H3068H7489H5650H4672H2580H5869H7760H4853H597112Have I conceived all this people? Have I brought them forth, that You should say to me, Carry them in your bosom, as a nursing father carries the sucking child, to the land which You swore to their fathers [to give them]?H2029H5971H3205H559H5375H2436H539H5375H3243H127H7650H113Where should I get meat to give to all these people? For they weep before me and say, Give us meat, that we may eat.H370H1320H5414H5971H1058H559H5414H1320H39814I am not able to carry all these people alone, because the burden is too heavy for me.H3201H5375H5971H905H351515And if this is the way You deal with me, kill me, I pray You, at once, and be granting me a favor and let me not see my wretchedness [in the failure of all my efforts].H6213H2026H2026H4672H2580H5869H7200H7451

Seventy Elders to Assist

16And the Lord said to Moses, Gather for Me seventy men of the elders of Israel whom you know to be the elders of the people and officers over them; and bring them to the Tent of Meeting and let them stand there with you.H3068H559H4872H622H7657H376H2205H3478H3045H2205H5971H7860H3947H168H4150H332017And I will come down and talk with you there; and I will take of the Spirit which is upon you and will put It upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with you, so that you may not have to bear it yourself alone.H3381H1696H680H7307H7760H5375H4853H5971H537518And say to the people, Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow, and you shall eat meat; for you have wept in the hearing of the Lord, saying, Who will give us meat to eat? For it was well with us in Egypt. Therefore the Lord will give you meat, and you shall eat.H559H5971H6942H4279H398H1320H1058H241H3068H559H1320H398H2895H4714H3068H5414H1320H39819You shall not eat one day, or two, or five, or ten, or twenty days,H398H259H3117H3117H2568H3117H6235H3117H6242H311720But a whole month--until [you are satiated and vomit it up violently and] it comes out at your nostrils and is disgusting to you--because you have rejected {and} despised the Lord Who is among you, and have wept before Him, saying, Why did we come out of Egypt?H2320H3117H3318H639H2214H3282H3988H3068H7130H1058H6440H559H3318H471421But Moses said, The people among whom I am are 600,000 footmen [besides all the women and children], and You have said, I will give them meat, that they may eat a whole month!H4872H559H5971H7130H8337H3967H505H7273H559H5414H1320H398H3117H232022Shall flocks and herds be killed to suffice them? Or shall all the fish of the sea be collected to satisfy them?H6629H1241H7819H4672H1709H3220H622H467223The Lord said to Moses, Has the Lord's hand (His ability and power) become short (thwarted and inadequate)? You shall see now whether My word shall come to pass for you or not.H3068H559H4872H3068H3027H7114H7200H1697H713624So Moses went out and told the people the words of the Lord, and he gathered seventy men of the elders of the people and set them round about the Tent.H4872H3318H1696H5971H1697H3068H622H7657H376H2205H5971H5975H5439H16825And the Lord came down in the cloud and spoke to him, and took of the Spirit that was upon him and put It upon the seventy elders; and when the Spirit rested upon them, they prophesied [sounding forth the praises of God and declaring His will]. Then they did so no more.H3068H3381H6051H1696H680H7307H5414H7657H2205H376H7307H5117H5012H325426But there remained two men in the camp named Eldad and Medad. The Spirit rested upon them, and they were of those who were selected {and} listed, yet they did not go out to the Tent [as told to do], but they prophesied in the camp.H7604H8147H582H4264H8034H259H419H8034H8145H4312H7307H5117H3789H3318H168H5012H426427And a young man ran to Moses and said, Eldad and Medad are prophesying [sounding forth the praises of God and declaring His will] in the camp.H7323H5288H5046H4872H559H419H4312H5012H426428Joshua son of Nun, the minister of Moses, one of his chosen men, said, My lord Moses, forbid them!H3091H1121H5126H8334H4872H979H6030H559H113H4872H360729But Moses said to him, Are you envious {or} jealous for my sake? Would that all the Lord's people were prophets and that the Lord would put His Spirit upon them!H4872H559H7065H5414H3068H5971H5030H3068H5414H730730And Moses went back into the camp, he and the elders of Israel.H4872H622H4264H2205H3478

The Quail and the Plague

31And there went forth a wind from the Lord and brought quails from the sea, and let them fall [so they flew low] beside the camp, about a day's journey on this side and on the other side, all around the camp, about two cubits above the ground.H5265H7307H3068H1468H7958H3220H5203H4264H3117H1870H3541H3117H1870H3541H5439H4264H520H6440H77632And the people rose all that day and all night and all the next day and caught {and} gathered the quails. He who gathered least gathered ten homers; and they spread them out for themselves round about the camp [to cure them by drying].H5971H6965H3117H3915H4283H3117H622H7958H4591H622H6235H2563H7849H7849H5439H426433While the meat was yet between their teeth, before it was consumed, the anger of the Lord was kindled against the people, and the Lord smote them with a very great plague.H1320H2962H8127H3772H639H3068H2734H5971H3068H5221H5971H3966H7227H434734That place was called Kibroth-hattaavah [the graves of sensuous desire], because there they buried the people who lusted, whose physical appetite caused them to sin.H7121H8034H4725H6914H6912H5971H18335The Israelites journeyed from Kibroth-hattaavah to Hazeroth, where they remained.H5971H5265H6914H2698H2698

Prayer Tents is a Christian mission organization that serves Christians around the world and their local bodies to make disciples ("evangelize") more effectively in their communities. Prayer Tents provides resources to enable Christians to form discipleship-focused small groups and make their gatherings known so that other "interested" people may participate and experience Christ in their midst. Our Vision is to make disciples in all nations through the local churches so that anyone seeking God can come to know Him through relationships with other Christians near them.
