Concerning an Unfaithful Wife

11The LORD spoke to Moses, saying:H3068H1696H4872H55912Speak to the Israelites and say to them: If any man's wife goes astray and is unfaithful to him,H1696H1121H3478H559H376H376H802H7847H4603H460413if a man has had intercourse with her but it is hidden from her husband, so that she is undetected though she has defiled herself, and there is no witness against her since she was not caught in the act;H376H7901H7902H2233H5956H5869H376H5641H2930H5707H861014if a spirit of jealousy comes on him, and he is jealous of his wife who has defiled herself; or if a spirit of jealousy comes on him, and he is jealous of his wife, though she has not defiled herself;H7307H7068H5674H7065H802H2930H7307H7068H5674H7065H802H293015then the man shall bring his wife to the priest. And he shall bring the offering required for her, one-tenth of an ephah of barley flour. He shall pour no oil on it and put no frankincense on it, for it is a grain offering of jealousy, a grain offering of remembrance, bringing iniquity to remembrance.H376H935H802H3548H935H7133H6224H374H8184H7058H3332H8081H5414H3828H4503H7068H4503H2146H2142H5771H214216Then the priest shall bring her near, and set her before the LORD;H3548H7126H5975H6440H306817the priest shall take holy water in an earthen vessel, and take some of the dust that is on the floor of the tabernacle and put it into the water.H3548H3947H6918H4325H2789H3627H6083H7172H4908H3548H3947H5414H432518The priest shall set the woman before the LORD, dishevel the woman's hair, and place in her hands the grain offering of remembrance, which is the grain offering of jealousy. In his own hand the priest shall have the water of bitterness that brings the curse.H3548H5975H802H6440H3068H6544H802H7218H5414H4503H2146H3709H7068H4503H3548H3027H4751H4325H77919Then the priest shall make her take an oath, saying, "If no man has lain with you, if you have not turned aside to uncleanness while under your husband's authority, be immune to this water of bitterness that brings the curse.H3548H7650H559H802H376H7901H7847H2932H376H5352H4751H4325H77920But if you have gone astray while under your husband's authority, if you have defiled yourself and some man other than your husband has had intercourse with you,"H7847H376H2930H376H5414H7903H1107H37621—let the priest make the woman take the oath of the curse and say to the woman—"the LORD make you an execration and an oath among your people, when the LORD makes your uterus drop, your womb discharge;H3548H7650H802H7621H423H3548H559H802H3068H5414H423H7621H8432H5971H3068H5414H3409H5307H990H663922now may this water that brings the curse enter your bowels and make your womb discharge, your uterus drop!" And the woman shall say, "Amen. Amen."H4325H779H935H4578H990H6638H3409H5307H802H559H543H54323Then the priest shall put these curses in writing, and wash them off into the water of bitterness.H3548H3789H423H5612H4229H4751H432524He shall make the woman drink the water of bitterness that brings the curse, and the water that brings the curse shall enter her and cause bitter pain.H802H8248H4751H4325H779H4325H779H935H475125The priest shall take the grain offering of jealousy out of the woman's hand, and shall elevate the grain offering before the LORD and bring it to the altar;H3548H3947H7068H4503H802H3027H5130H4503H6440H3068H7126H419626and the priest shall take a handful of the grain offering, as its memorial portion, and turn it into smoke on the altar, and afterward shall make the woman drink the water.H3548H7061H4503H234H6999H4196H310H802H8248H432527When he has made her drink the water, then, if she has defiled herself and has been unfaithful to her husband, the water that brings the curse shall enter into her and cause bitter pain, and her womb shall discharge, her uterus drop, and the woman shall become an execration among her people.H8248H4325H2930H4603H4604H376H4325H779H935H4751H990H6638H3409H5307H802H423H7130H597128But if the woman has not defiled herself and is clean, then she shall be immune and be able to conceive children.H802H2930H2889H5352H2232H223329This is the law in cases of jealousy, when a wife, while under her husband's authority, goes astray and defiles herself,H8451H7068H802H7847H376H293030or when a spirit of jealousy comes on a man and he is jealous of his wife; then he shall set the woman before the LORD, and the priest shall apply this entire law to her.H7307H7068H5674H376H7065H802H5975H802H6440H3068H3548H6213H845131The man shall be free from iniquity, but the woman shall bear her iniquity.H376H5352H5771H1931H802H5375H5771
