Numbers 25

25While Israel was staying in Shittim, the men began to indulge in sexual immorality with Moabite women,H3478H3427H7851H5971H2490H2181H1323H41242who invited them to the sacrifices to their gods. The people ate and bowed down before these gods.H7121H5971H2077H430H5971H398H7812H4303So Israel joined in worshiping the Baal of Peor. And the LORD'S anger burned against them.H3478H6775H1187H639H3068H2734H34784The LORD said to Moses, "Take all the leaders of these people, kill them and expose them in broad daylight before the LORD, so that the LORD'S fierce anger may turn away from Israel."H3068H559H4872H3947H7218H5971H3363H5048H3068H8121H2740H639H3068H7725H34785So Moses said to Israel's judges, "Each of you must put to death those of your men who have joined in worshiping the Baal of Peor."H4872H559H8199H3478H2026H376H376H582H6775H11876Then an Israelite man brought to his family a Midianite woman right before the eyes of Moses and the whole assembly of Israel while they were weeping at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.H376H1121H3478H935H7126H251H4084H5869H4872H5869H5712H1121H3478H1058H6607H168H41507When Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, the priest, saw this, he left the assembly, took a spear in his handH6372H1121H499H1121H175H3548H7200H6965H8432H5712H3947H7420H30278and followed the Israelite into the tent. He drove the spear through both of them--through the Israelite and into the woman's body. Then the plague against the Israelites was stopped;H935H310H376H3478H6898H1856H8147H376H3478H802H413H6897H4046H6113H1121H34789but those who died in the plague numbered 24,000.H4191H4046H6242H702H50510The LORD said to Moses,H3068H1696H4872H55911"Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, the priest, has turned my anger away from the Israelites; for he was as zealous as I am for my honor among them, so that in my zeal I did not put an end to them.H6372H1121H499H1121H175H3548H7725H2534H7725H1121H3478H7065H7068H8432H3615H1121H3478H706812Therefore tell him I am making my covenant of peace with him.H559H5414H1285H796513He and his descendants will have a covenant of a lasting priesthood, because he was zealous for the honor of his God and made atonement for the Israelites."H2233H310H1285H5769H3550H834H7065H430H3722H1121H347814The name of the Israelite who was killed with the Midianite woman was Zimri son of Salu, the leader of a Simeonite family.H8034H376H5221H5221H4084H2174H1121H5543H5387H1H1004H809915And the name of the Midianite woman who was put to death was Cozbi daughter of Zur, a tribal chief of a Midianite family.H8034H4084H802H5221H3579H1323H6698H7218H523H1H1004H408016The LORD said to Moses,H3068H1696H4872H55917"Treat the Midianites as enemies and kill them,H6887H4084H522118because they treated you as enemies when they deceived you in the affair of Peor and their sister Cozbi, the daughter of a Midianite leader, the woman who was killed when the plague came as a result of Peor."H6887H5231H5230H1697H6465H1697H3579H1323H5387H4080H269H5221H3117H4046H6465H1697

Prayer Tents is a Christian mission organization that serves Christians around the world and their local bodies to make disciples ("evangelize") more effectively in their communities. Prayer Tents provides resources to enable Christians to form discipleship-focused small groups and make their gatherings known so that other "interested" people may participate and experience Christ in their midst. Our Vision is to make disciples in all nations through the local churches so that anyone seeking God can come to know Him through relationships with other Christians near them.
