Reuben and Gad Settle in Gilead

32Now the people of Reuben and the people of Gad had a very great number of livestock. And they saw the land of Jazer and the land of Gilead, and behold, the place was a place for livestock.H1121H7205H1121H1410H3966H6099H7227H4735H7200H776H3270H776H1568H4725H4725H4735 2So the people of Gad and the people of Reuben came and said to Moses and to Eleazar the priest and to the chiefs of the congregation,H1121H1410H1121H7205H935H559H4872H499H3548H5387H5712H559 3"Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo, and Beon,H5852H1769H3270H5247H2809H500H7643H5015H1194 4the land that the LORD struck down before the congregation of Israel, is a land for livestock, and your servants have livestock."H776H3068H5221H6440H5712H3478H776H4735H5650H4735 5And they said, "If we have found favor in your sight, let this land be given to your servants for a possession. Do not take us across the Jordan."H559H4672H2580H5869H776H5414H5650H272H5674H3383 6But Moses said to the people of Gad and to the people of Reuben, "Shall your brothers go to the war while you sit here?H4872H559H1121H1410H1121H7205H251H935H4421H3427 7Why will you discourage the heart of the people of Israel from going over into the land that the LORD has given them?H5106H5106H3820H1121H3478H5674H776H3068H5414 8Your fathers did this, when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea to see the land.H6213H1H7971H6947H7200H776 9For when they went up to the Valley of Eshcol and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the people of Israel from going into the land that the LORD had given them.H5927H5158H812H7200H776H5106H3820H1121H3478H935H776H3068H5414 10And the LORD's anger was kindled on that day, and he swore, saying,H3068H639H2734H3117H7650H559 11'Surely none of the men who came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land that I swore to give to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, because they have not wholly followed me,H518H582H5927H4714H6242H8141H1121H4605H7200H127H7650H85H3327H3290H4390H310 12none except Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua the son of Nun, for they have wholly followed the LORD.'H3612H1121H3312H7074H3091H1121H5126H4390H310H3068 13And the LORD's anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation that had done evil in the sight of the LORD was gone.H3068H639H2734H3478H5128H4057H705H8141H1755H6213H7451H5869H3068H8552 14And behold, you have risen in your fathers' place, a brood of sinful men, to increase still more the fierce anger of the LORD against Israel!H6965H1H8635H2400H582H5595H2740H639H3068H3478 15For if you turn away from following him, he will again abandon them in the wilderness, and you will destroy all this people."H7725H310H3254H3240H4057H7843H5971 16Then they came near to him and said, "We will build sheepfolds here for our livestock, and cities for our little ones,H5066H559H1129H1448H6629H4735H5892H2945 17but we will take up arms, ready to go before the people of Israel, until we have brought them to their place. And our little ones shall live in the fortified cities because of the inhabitants of the land.H587H2363H2502H6440H1121H3478H935H4725H2945H3427H4013H5892H6440H3427H776 18We will not return to our homes until each of the people of Israel has gained his inheritance.H7725H1004H1121H3478H5157H376H5159 19For we will not inherit with them on the other side of the Jordan and beyond, because our inheritance has come to us on this side of the Jordan to the east."H5157H5676H3383H1973H5159H935H5676H3383H4217 20So Moses said to them, "If you will do this, if you will take up arms to go before the LORD for the war,H4872H559H6213H1697H2502H6440H3068H4421 21and every armed man of you will pass over the Jordan before the LORD, until he has driven out his enemies from before himH5674H2502H5674H3383H6440H3068H3423H341H6440 22and the land is subdued before the LORD; then after that you shall return and be free of obligation to the LORD and to Israel, and this land shall be your possession before the LORD.H776H3533H6440H3068H310H7725H5355H3068H3478H776H272H6440H3068 23But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against the LORD, and be sure your sin will find you out.H6213H2398H3068H3045H2403H4672 24Build cities for your little ones and folds for your sheep, and do what you have promised."H1129H5892H2945H1448H6792H6213H3318H6310 25And the people of Gad and the people of Reuben said to Moses, "Your servants will do as my lord commands.H1121H1410H1121H7205H559H4872H559H5650H6213H113H6680 26Our little ones, our wives, our livestock, and all our cattle shall remain there in the cities of Gilead,H2945H802H4735H929H5892H1568 27but your servants will pass over, every man who is armed for war, before the LORD to battle, as my lord orders."H5650H5674H2502H6635H6440H3068H4421H113H1696 28So Moses gave command concerning them to Eleazar the priest and to Joshua the son of Nun and to the heads of the fathers' houses of the tribes of the people of Israel.H4872H6680H499H3548H3091H1121H5126H7218H1H4294H1121H3478 29And Moses said to them, "If the people of Gad and the people of Reuben, every man who is armed to battle before the LORD, will pass with you over the Jordan and the land shall be subdued before you, then you shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession.H4872H559H1121H1410H1121H7205H5674H3383H2502H4421H6440H3068H776H3533H6440H5414H776H1568H272 30However, if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan."H5674H2502H270H8432H776H3667 31And the people of Gad and the people of Reuben answered, "What the LORD has said to your servants, we will do.H1121H1410H1121H7205H6030H559H3068H1696H5650H6213 32We will pass over armed before the LORD into the land of Canaan, and the possession of our inheritance shall remain with us beyond the Jordan."H5168H5674H2502H6440H3068H776H3667H272H5159H5676H3383 33And Moses gave to them, to the people of Gad and to the people of Reuben and to the half-tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land and its cities with their territories, the cities of the land throughout the country.H4872H5414H1121H1410H1121H7205H2677H7626H4519H1121H3130H4467H5511H4428H567H4467H5747H4428H1316H776H5892H1367H5892H776H5439 34And the people of Gad built Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer,H1121H1410H1129H1769H5852H6177 35Atroth-shophan, Jazer, Jogbehah,H5855H3270H3011 36Beth-nimrah and Beth-haran, fortified cities, and folds for sheep.H1039H1028H4013H5892H1448H6629 37And the people of Reuben built Heshbon, Elealeh, Kiriathaim,H1121H7205H1129H2809H500H7156 38Nebo, and Baal-meon (their names were changed), and Sibmah.
