Boaz Redeems Ruth

4Now Boaz went up to the gate and sat down there; and behold, the close relative of whom Boaz had spoken came by. So Boaz said, "Come aside, friend, sit down here." So he came aside and sat down.H5927H1162H5927H8179H3427H1350H1162H1696H5674H559H1945H6423H492H5493H3427H5493H34272And he took ten men of the elders of the city, and said, "Sit down here." So they sat down.H3947H6235H582H2205H5892H559H3427H34273Then he said to the close relative, "Naomi, who has come back from the country of Moab, sold the piece of land which belonged to our brother Elimelech.H559H1350H5281H7725H7704H4124H4376H2513H7704H251H4584"And I thought to inform you, saying, 'Buy it back in the presence of the inhabitants and the elders of my people. If you will redeem it, redeem it; but if you will not redeem it, then tell me, that I may know; for there is no one but you to redeem it, and I am next after you.'" And he said, "I will redeem it."H559H1540H241H559H7069H3427H2205H5971H1350H1350H1350H5046H3045H1350H2108H310H559H13505Then Boaz said, "On the day you buy the field from the hand of Naomi, you must also buy it from Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to perpetuate the name of the dead through his inheritance."H559H1162H3117H7069H7704H3027H5281H7069H7327H4125H802H4191H6965H8034H4191H51596And the close relative said, "I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I ruin my own inheritance. You redeem my right of redemption for yourself, for I cannot redeem it."H1350H559H3201H1350H7843H5159H1350H1353H3201H13507Now this was the custom in former times in Israel concerning redeeming and exchanging, to confirm anything: one man took off his sandal and gave it to the other, and this was a confirmation in Israel.H6440H3478H1353H8545H6965H1697H376H8025H5275H5414H7453H8584H34788Therefore the close relative said to Boaz, "Buy it for yourself." So he took off his sandal.H1350H559H1162H7069H8025H52759And Boaz said to the elders and all the people, "You are witnesses this day that I have bought all that was Elimelech's, and all that was Chilion's and Mahlon's, from the hand of Naomi.H1162H559H2205H5971H5707H3117H7069H458H3630H4248H3027H528110"Moreover, Ruth the Moabitess, the widow of Mahlon, I have acquired as my wife, to perpetuate the name of the dead through his inheritance, that the name of the dead may not be cut off from among his brethren and from his position at the gate. You are witnesses this day."H7327H4125H802H4248H7069H802H6965H8034H4191H5159H8034H4191H3772H5973H251H8179H4725H5707H311711And all the people who were at the gate, and the elders, said, "We are witnesses. The LORD make the woman who is coming to your house like Rachel and Leah, the two who built the house of Israel; and may you prosper in Ephrathah and be famous in Bethlehem.H5971H8179H2205H559H5707H3068H5414H802H935H1004H7354H3812H8147H1129H1004H3478H6213H2428H672H7121H8034H103512"May your house be like the house of Perez, whom Tamar bore to Judah, because of the offspring which the LORD will give you from this young woman."H1004H1004H6557H8559H3205H3063H2233H3068H5414H5291

Descendants of Boaz and Ruth

13So Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife; and when he went in to her, the LORD gave her conception, and she bore a son.H1162H3947H7327H802H935H3068H5414H2032H3205H112114Then the women said to Naomi, "Blessed be the LORD, who has not left you this day without a close relative; and may his name be famous in Israel!H802H559H5281H1288H3068H7673H3117H1350H8034H7121H347815"And may he be to you a restorer of life and a nourisher of your old age; for your daughter-in-law, who loves you, who is better to you than seven sons, has borne him."H7725H5315H3557H7872H3618H157H2896H7651H1121H320516Then Naomi took the child and laid him on her bosom, and became a nurse to him.H5281H3947H3206H7896H2436H53917Also the neighbor women gave him a name, saying, "There is a son born to Naomi." And they called his name Obed. He is the father of Jesse, the father of David.H7934H7121H8034H559H1121H3205H5281H7121H8034H5744H1H3448H1H173218Now this is the genealogy of Perez: Perez begot Hezron;H8435H6557H6557H3205H269619Hezron begot Ram, and Ram begot Amminadab;H2696H3205H7410H7410H3205H599220Amminadab begot Nahshon, and Nahshon begot Salmon;H5992H3205H5177H5177H3205H800921Salmon begot Boaz, and Boaz begot Obed;H8012H3205H1162H1162H3205H574422Obed begot Jesse, and Jesse begot David.H5744H3205H3448H3448H3205H1732
