2Samuel 23

23These are the last words of David: "The oracle of David son of Jesse, the oracle of the man exalted by the Most High, the man anointed by the God of Jacob, Israel's singer of songs:H314H1697H1732H1732H1121H3448H5002H1397H6965H5920H4899H430H3290H5273H2158H3478H50022"The Spirit of the LORD spoke through me; his word was on my tongue.H7307H3068H1696H4405H39563The God of Israel spoke, the Rock of Israel said to me: 'When one rules over men in righteousness, when he rules in the fear of God,H430H3478H559H6697H3478H1696H4910H120H6662H4910H3374H4304he is like the light of morning at sunrise on a cloudless morning, like the brightness after rain that brings the grass from the earth.'H216H1242H8121H2224H1242H3808H5645H1877H776H5051H43065"Is not my house right with God? Has he not made with me an everlasting covenant, arranged and secured in every part? Will he not bring to fruition my salvation and grant me my every desire?H1004H410H7760H5769H1285H6186H8104H3468H2656H67796But evil men are all to be cast aside like thorns, which are not gathered with the hand.H1100H6975H5074H3947H30277Whoever touches thorns uses a tool of iron or the shaft of a spear; they are burned up where they lie."H376H5060H4390H1270H6086H2595H8313H8313H784H76758These are the names of David's mighty men: Josheb-Basshebeth, a Tahkemonite, was chief of the Three; he raised his spear against eight hundred men, whom he killed in one encounter.H8034H1368H1732H8461H3427H7675H3429H7218H7991H5722H6112H8083H3967H2491H259H64719Next to him was Eleazar son of Dodai the Ahohite. As one of the three mighty men, he was with David when they taunted the Philistines gathered at Pas Dammim for battle. Then the men of Israel retreated,H310H499H1121H1734H266H7969H1368H1732H2778H6430H622H4421H376H3478H592710but he stood his ground and struck down the Philistines till his hand grew tired and froze to the sword. The LORD brought about a great victory that day. The troops returned to Eleazar, but only to strip the dead.H6965H5221H6430H3588H3027H3021H3027H1692H2719H3068H6213H1419H8668H3117H5971H7725H310H658411Next to him was Shammah son of Agee the Hararite. When the Philistines banded together at a place where there was a field full of lentils, Israel's troops fled from them.H310H8048H1121H89H2043H6430H622H2416H2513H7704H4392H5742H5971H5127H6440H643012But Shammah took his stand in the middle of the field. He defended it and struck the Philistines down, and the LORD brought about a great victory.H3320H8432H2513H5337H5221H6430H3068H6213H1419H866813During harvest time, three of the thirty chief men came down to David at the cave of Adullam, while a band of Philistines was encamped in the Valley of Rephaim.H7969H7970H7970H7218H3381H935H1732H7105H4631H5725H2416H6430H2583H6010H749714At that time David was in the stronghold, and the Philistine garrison was at Bethlehem.H1732H4686H4673H6430H103515David longed for water and said, "Oh, that someone would get me a drink of water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem!"H1732H183H559H8248H4325H953H1035H817916So the three mighty men broke through the Philistine lines, drew water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem and carried it back to David. But he refused to drink it; instead, he poured it out before the LORD.H7969H1368H1234H4264H6430H7579H4325H953H1035H8179H5375H935H1732H14H8354H5258H306817"Far be it from me, O LORD, to do this!" he said. "Is it not the blood of men who went at the risk of their lives?" And David would not drink it. Such were the exploits of the three mighty men.H559H2486H3068H6213H1818H582H1980H5315H14H8354H6213H7969H136818Abishai the brother of Joab son of Zeruiah was chief of the Three. He raised his spear against three hundred men, whom he killed, and so he became as famous as the Three.H52H251H3097H1121H6870H7218H7992H5782H2595H7969H3967H2491H8034H796919Was he not held in greater honor than the Three? He became their commander, even though he was not included among them.H3513H7969H8269H935H796920Benaiah son of Jehoiada was a valiant fighter from Kabzeel, who performed great exploits. He struck down two of Moab's best men. He also went down into a pit on a snowy day and killed a lion.H1141H1121H3077H1121H2428H376H381H6909H7227H6467H5221H8147H739H4124H3381H5221H738H8432H953H3117H795021And he struck down a huge Egyptian. Although the Egyptian had a spear in his hand, Benaiah went against him with a club. He snatched the spear from the Egyptian's hand and killed him with his own spear.H2026H4713H4758H376H4713H2595H3027H3381H7626H1497H2595H4713H3027H5221H259522Such were the exploits of Benaiah son of Jehoiada; he too was as famous as the three mighty men.H6213H1141H1121H3077H8034H7969H136823He was held in greater honor than any of the Thirty, but he was not included among the Three. And David put him in charge of his bodyguard.H3513H7970H935H7969H1732H7760H492824Among the Thirty were: Asahel the brother of Joab, Elhanan son of Dodo from Bethlehem,H6214H251H3097H7970H445H1121H1734H103525Shammah the Harodite, Elika the Harodite,H8048H2733H470H273326Helez the Paltite, Ira son of Ikkesh from Tekoa,H2503H6407H5896H1121H6142H862127Abiezer from Anathoth, Mebunnai the Hushathite,H44H6069H4012H284328Zalmon the Ahohite, Maharai the Netophathite,H6756H266H4121H520029Heled son of Baanah the Netophathite, Ithai son of Ribai from Gibeah in Benjamin,H2460H1121H1196H5200H863H1121H7380H1390H1121H114430Benaiah the Pirathonite, Hiddai from the ravines of Gaash,H1141H6553H1914H5158H160831Abi-Albon the Arbathite, Azmaveth the Barhumite,H45H6164H5820H127332Eliahba the Shaalbonite, the sons of Jashen, JonathanH455H8170H1121H3464H308333son of Shammah the Hararite, Ahiam son of Sharar the Hararite,H8048H2043H279H1121H8325H204334Eliphelet son of Ahasbai the Maacathite, Eliam son of Ahithophel the Gilonite,H467H1121H308H1121H4602H463H1121H302H152635Hezro the Carmelite, Paarai the Arbite,H2695H3761H6474H70136Igal son of Nathan from Zobah, the son of Hagri,H3008H1121H5416H6678H1137H142537Zelek the Ammonite, Naharai the Beerothite, the armor-bearer of Joab son of Zeruiah,H6768H5984H5171H886H5375H3627H3097H1121H687038Ira the Ithrite, Gareb the IthriteH5896H3505H1619H350539and Uriah the Hittite. Prayer Tents is a Christian mission organization that serves Christians around the world and their local bodies to make disciples ("evangelize") more effectively in their communities. Prayer Tents provides resources to enable Christians to form discipleship-focused small groups and make their gatherings known so that other "interested" people may participate and experience Christ in their midst. Our Vision is to make disciples in all nations through the local churches so that anyone seeking God can come to know Him through relationships with other Christians near them.
