Paul Goes to Macedonia and Greece

20When the uproar was over, Paul sent for the believers and encouraged them. Then he said good-bye and left for Macedonia.G1161G3326G2351G3973G3972G4341G3101G2532G782G1831G4198G1519G3109 2While there, he encouraged the believers in all the towns he passed through. Then he traveled down to Greece,G1161G1330G1565G3313G2532G4183G846G4183G3870G3056G2064G1519G1671 3where he stayed for three months. He was preparing to sail back to Syria when he discovered a plot by some Jews against his life, so he decided to return through Macedonia.G5037G4160G5140G3376G5259G2453G1096G1917G846G3195G321G1519G4947G1096G1106G5290G1223G3109 4Several men were traveling with him. They were Sopater son of Pyrrhus from Berea; Aristarchus and Secundus from Thessalonica; Gaius from Derbe; Timothy; and Tychicus and Trophimus from the province of Asia.G1161G4902G846G891G773G4986G961G1161G2331G708G2532G4580G2532G1050G1190G2532G5095G1161G774G5190G2532G5161 5They went on ahead and waited for us at Troas.G3778G4281G3306G2248G1722G5174 6After the Passover ended, we boarded a ship at Philippi in Macedonia and five days later joined them in Troas, where we stayed a week.G1161G2249G1602G575G5375G3326G2250G106G2532G2064G4314G846G1519G5174G891G4002G2250G3757G1304G2033G2250

Paul’s Final Visit to Troas

7On the first day of the week, we gathered with the local believers to share in the Lord's Supper. Paul was preaching to them, and since he was leaving the next day, he kept talking until midnight.G1161G1722G3391G4521G3101G4863G2806G740G3972G1256G846G3195G1826G1887G5037G3905G3056G3360G3317 8The upstairs room where we met was lighted with many flickering lamps.G1161G2258G2425G2985G1722G5253G3757G2258G4863 9As Paul spoke on and on, a young man named Eutychus, sitting on the windowsill, became very drowsy. Finally, he fell sound asleep and dropped three stories to his death below.G1161G2521G1909G2376G5100G3494G3686G2161G2702G901G5258G3972G1909G4119G1256G2702G575G5258G2736G4098G575G5152G2532G142G3498 10Paul went down, bent over him, and took him into his arms. "Don't worry," he said, "he's alive!"G1161G3972G2597G1968G846G2532G4843G2036G2350G3361G2350G1063G846G5590G2076G1722G846 11Then they all went back upstairs, shared in the Lord's Supper, and ate together. Paul continued talking to them until dawn, and then he left.G1161G305G305G2532G2806G740G2532G1089G5037G3656G1909G2425G891G827G3779G1831 12Meanwhile, the young man was taken home unhurt, and everyone was greatly relieved.G1161G71G3816G2198G2532G3870G3756G3357G3870

Paul Meets the Ephesian Elders

13Paul went by land to Assos, where he had arranged for us to join him, while we traveled by ship.G1161G2249G4281G1909G4143G321G1519G789G1564G3195G353G3972G1063G3779G2258G1299G3195G846G3978 14He joined us there, and we sailed together to Mitylene.G1161G5613G4820G2254G1519G789G353G846G353G2064G1519G3412 15The next day we sailed past the island of Kios. The following day we crossed to the island of Samos, and a day later we arrived at Miletus.G2547G636G2547G2658G1966G481G5508G1161G2087G3846G1519G4544G2532G3306G1722G5175G2192G2064G1519G3399 16Paul had decided to sail on past Ephesus, for he didn't want to spend any more time in the province of Asia. He was hurrying to get to Jerusalem, if possible, in time for the Festival of Pentecost.G1063G3972G2919G3896G2181G3704G846G1096G3361G5551G1722G773G1063G4692G1487G2258G1415G846G1096G1519G2414G2250G4005 17But when we landed at Miletus, he sent a message to the elders of the church at Ephesus, asking them to come and meet him.G1161G575G3399G3992G1519G2181G3333G4245G1577 18When they arrived he declared, "You know that from the day I set foot in the province of Asia until nowG1161G5613G3854G4314G846G2036G846G5210G1987G575G4413G2250G575G3739G1910G1519G773G4459G1096G3326G5216G3956G5550 19I have done the Lord's work humbly and with many tears. I have endured the trials that came to me from the plots of the Jews.G1398G2962G3326G3956G5012G2532G4183G1144G2532G3986G3588G4819G3427G1722G1917G2453 20I never shrank back from telling you what you needed to hear, either publicly or in your homes.G5613G5288G3762G4851G3361G312G5213G2532G1321G5209G1219G2532G2596G3624 21I have had one message for Jews and Greeks alike—the necessity of repenting from sin and turning to God, and of having faith in our Lord Jesus.G1263G5037G2453G2532G1672G3341G1519G2316G2532G4102G1519G2257G2962G2424G5547 22"And now I am bound by the Spirit to go to Jerusalem. I don't know what awaits me,G2532G3568G2400G1473G4198G1210G4151G1519G2419G3361G1492G4876G3427G1722G846 23except that the Holy Spirit tells me in city after city that jail and suffering lie ahead.G4133G3754G40G4151G1263G2596G4172G3004G3754G1199G2532G2347G3306G3165 24But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.G235G3762G3056G4160G3761G2192G3450G5590G5093G1683G5613G5048G3450G1408G3326G5479G2532G1248G3739G2983G3844G2962G2424G1263G2098G5485G2316 25"And now I know that none of you to whom I have preached the Kingdom will ever see me again.G2532G3568G2400G1473G1492G3754G5210G3956G1722G3739G1330G2784G932G2316G3700G3450G4383G3765 26I declare today that I have been faithful. If anyone suffers eternal death, it's not my fault,G1352G3143G5213G3143G1722G4594G2250G3754G1473G2513G575G129G3956 27for I didn't shrink from declaring all that God wants you to know.G1063G5288G3756G3361G5288G312G5213G3956G1012G2316 28"So guard yourselves and God's people. Feed and shepherd God's flock—his church, purchased with his own blood—over which the Holy Spirit has appointed you as elders.G4337G3767G1438G2532G3956G4168G1722G3739G40G4151G5087G5209G1985G4165G1577G2316G3739G4046G1223G2398G129 29I know that false teachers, like vicious wolves, will come in among you after I leave, not sparing the flock.G1063G1473G1492G5124G3754G3326G3450G867G926G3074G1525G1519G5209G3361G5339G4168 30Even some men from your own group will rise up and distort the truth in order to draw a following.G2532G1537G5216G846G450G435G450G2980G1294G645G3101G3694G846 31Watch out! Remember the three years I was with you—my constant watch and care over you night and day, and my many tears for you.G1352G1127G3421G3754G5148G3973G3756G3560G1538G1520G3571G2532G2250G3326G1144 32"And now I entrust you to God and the message of his grace that is able to build you up and give you an inheritance with all those he has set apart for himself.G2532G3569G80G3908G5209G2316G2532G3056G846G5485G3588G1410G2026G2532G1325G5213G2817G1722G3956G37 33"I have never coveted anyone's silver or gold or fine clothes.G1937G3762G694G2228G5553G2228G2441 34You know that these hands of mine have worked to supply my own needs and even the needs of those who were with me.G1161G846G1097G3754G3778G5495G5256G3450G5532G2532G5607G3326G1700 35And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'"G5263G5213G3956G3754G3779G2872G1163G482G770G5037G3421G3056G2962G2424G3754G846G2036G2076G3123G3107G1325G2228G2983 36When he had finished speaking, he knelt and prayed with them.G2532G5023G2036G846G1119G5087G4336G4862G846G3956 37They all cried as they embraced and kissed him good-bye.G1161G3956G2805G1096G2425G2532G1968G1909G3972G5137G2705G846 38They were sad most of all because he had said that they would never see him again. Then they escorted him down to the ship.G3600G3122G1909G3056G3739G2046G3754G3195G2334G846G4383G3765G1161G4311G846G1519G4143
