Ben-Hadad Attacks Samaria

20About that time King Ben-hadad of Aram mobilized his army, supported by the chariots and horses of thirty-two allied kings. They went to besiege Samaria, the capital of Israel, and launched attacks against it.H1130H4428H758H6908H2428H6908H7970H8147H4428H5483H7393H5927H6696H8111H3898 2Ben-hadad sent messengers into the city to relay this message to King Ahab of Israel: "This is what Ben-hadad says.H7971H4397H256H4428H3478H5892H559H559H1130 3'Your silver and gold are mine, and so are your wives and the best of your children!'"H3701H2091H802H1121H2896 4"All right, my lord the king," Israel's king replied. "All that I have is yours!"H4428H3478H6030H559H113H4428H1697 5Soon Ben-hadad's messengers returned again and said, "This is what Ben-hadad says: 'I have already demanded that you give me your silver, gold, wives, and children.H4397H7725H559H559H1130H559H7971H559H5414H3701H2091H802H1121 6But about this time tomorrow I will send my officials to search your palace and the homes of your people. They will take away everything you consider valuable!'"H7971H5650H4279H6256H2664H1004H1004H5650H1961H4261H5869H7760H3027H3947 7Then Ahab summoned all the elders of the land and said to them, "Look how this man is stirring up trouble! I already agreed with his demand that I give him my wives and children and silver and gold."H4428H3478H7121H2205H776H559H3045H7200H1245H7451H7971H802H1121H3701H2091H4513 8"Don't give in to any more demands," all the elders and the people advised.H2205H5971H559H8085H14 9So Ahab told the messengers from Ben-hadad, "Say this to my lord the king: 'I will give you everything you asked for the first time, but I cannot accept this last demand of yours.'" So the messengers returned to Ben-hadad with that response.H559H4397H1130H559H113H4428H7971H5650H7223H6213H1697H3201H6213H4397H3212H7725H1697H7725 10Then Ben-hadad sent this message to Ahab: "May the gods strike me and even kill me if there remains enough dust from Samaria to provide even a handful for each of my soldiers."H1130H7971H559H430H6213H3254H6083H8111H5606H8168H5971H7272 11The king of Israel sent back this answer: "A warrior putting on his sword for battle should not boast like a warrior who has already won."H4428H3478H6030H559H1696H2296H1984H6605 12Ahab's reply reached Ben-hadad and the other kings as they were drinking in their tents. "Prepare to attack!" Ben-hadad commanded his officers. So they prepared to attack the city.H8085H1697H8354H4428H5521H559H5650H7760H7760H5892

Ahab’s Victory over Ben-Hadad

13Then a certain prophet came to see King Ahab of Israel and told him, "This is what the LORD says: Do you see all these enemy forces? Today I will hand them all over to you. Then you will know that I am the LORD."H5066H259H5030H256H4428H3478H559H559H3068H7200H1419H1995H5414H3027H3117H3045H3068 14Ahab asked, "How will he do it?" And the prophet replied, "This is what the LORD says: The troops of the provincial commanders will do it." "Should we attack first?" Ahab asked."Yes," the prophet answered.H256H559H559H559H3068H5288H8269H4082H559H631H4421H559 15So Ahab mustered the troops of the 232 provincial commanders. Then he called out the rest of the army of Israel, some 7,000 men.H6485H5288H8269H4082H8147H3967H7970H8147H310H6485H5971H1121H3478H7651H505 16About noontime, as Ben-hadad and the thirty-two allied kings were still in their tents drinking themselves into a stupor,H3318H6672H1130H8354H7910H5521H4428H7970H8147H4428H5826 17the troops of the provincial commanders marched out of the city as the first contingent. As they approached, Ben-hadad's scouts reported to him, "Some troops are coming from Samaria."H5288H8269H4082H3318H7223H1130H7971H5046H559H582H3318H8111 18"Take them alive," Ben-hadad commanded, "whether they have come for peace or for war."H559H3318H7965H8610H2416H3318H4421H8610H2416 19But Ahab's provincial commanders and the entire army had now come out to fight.H5288H8269H4082H3318H5892H2428H310 20Each Israelite soldier killed his Aramean opponent, and suddenly the entire Aramean army panicked and fled. The Israelites chased them, but King Ben-hadad and a few of his charioteers escaped on horses.H5221H376H376H758H5127H3478H7291H1130H4428H758H4422H5483H6571 21However, the king of Israel destroyed the other horses and chariots and slaughtered the Arameans.H4428H3478H3318H5221H5483H7393H5221H758H1419H4347 22Afterward the prophet said to King Ahab, "Get ready for another attack. Begin making plans now, for the king of Aram will come back next spring."H5030H5066H4428H3478H559H3212H2388H3045H7200H6213H8666H8141H4428H758H5927

Ben-Hadad’s Second Attack

23After their defeat, Ben-hadad's officers said to him, "The Israelite gods are gods of the hills; that is why they won. But we can beat them easily on the plains.H5650H4428H758H559H430H430H2022H2388H199H3898H4334H3808H2388 24Only this time replace the kings with field commanders!H6213H1697H5493H4428H376H4725H7760H6346 25Recruit another army like the one you lost. Give us the same number of horses, chariots, and men, and we will fight against them on the plains. There's no doubt that we will beat them." So King Ben-hadad did as they suggested.H4487H2428H2428H5307H5483H5483H7393H7393H3898H854H4334H2388H8085H6963H6213 26The following spring he called up the Aramean army and marched out against Israel, this time at Aphek.H8666H8141H1130H6485H758H5927H663H4421H3478 27Israel then mustered its army, set up supply lines, and marched out for battle. But the Israelite army looked like two little flocks of goats in comparison to the vast Aramean forces that filled the countryside!H1121H3478H6485H3557H3212H7125H1121H3478H2583H8147H2835H5795H758H4390H776 28Then the man of God went to the king of Israel and said, "This is what the LORD says: The Arameans have said, 'The LORD is a god of the hills and not of the plains.' So I will defeat this vast army for you. Then you will know that I am the LORD."H5066H376H430H559H4428H3478H559H559H3068H758H559H3068H430H2022H430H6010H5414H1419H1995H3027H3045H3068 29The two armies camped opposite each other for seven days, and on the seventh day the battle began. The Israelites killed 100,000 Aramean foot soldiers in one day.H2583H428H5227H428H7651H3117H7637H3117H4421H7126H1121H3478H5221H758H3967H505H7273H259H3117 30The rest fled into the town of Aphek, but the wall fell on them and killed another 27,000. Ben-hadad fled into the town and hid in a secret room.H3498H5127H663H5892H2346H5307H6242H7651H505H376H3498H1130H5127H935H5892H2315H2315 31Ben-hadad's officers said to him, "Sir, we have heard that the kings of Israel are merciful. So let's humble ourselves by wearing burlap around our waists and putting ropes on our heads, and surrender to the king of Israel. Then perhaps he will let you live."H5650H559H8085H4428H1004H3478H2617H4428H7760H8242H4975H2256H7218H3318H4428H3478H2421H5315 32So they put on burlap and ropes, and they went to the king of Israel and begged, "Your servant Ben-hadad says, 'Please let me live!'" The king of Israel responded, "Is he still alive? He is my brother!"H2296H8242H4975H2256H7218H935H4428H3478H559H5650H1130H559H2421H5315H559H2416H251 33The men took this as a good sign and quickly picked up on his words. "Yes," they said, "your brother Ben-hadad!" "Go and get him," the king of Israel told them. And when Ben-hadad arrived, Ahab invited him up into his chariot.H582H5172H4116H2480H559H251H1130H559H935H3947H1130H3318H5927H4818 34Ben-hadad told him, "I will give back the towns my father took from your father, and you may establish places of trade in Damascus, as my father did in Samaria." Then Ahab said, "I will release you under these conditions." So they made a new treaty, and Ben-hadad was set free.H559H5892H1H3947H1H7725H7760H2351H1834H1H7760H8111H7971H1285H3772H1285H7971

A Prophet Condemns Ahab

35Meanwhile, the LORD instructed one of the group of prophets to say to another man, "Hit me!" But the man refused to hit the prophet.H259H376H1121H5030H559H7453H1697H3068H5221H376H3985H5221 36Then the prophet told him, "Because you have not obeyed the voice of the LORD, a lion will kill you as soon as you leave me." And when he had gone, a lion did attack and kill him.H559H8085H6963H3068H1980H738H5221H3212H681H738H4672H5221 37Then the prophet turned to another man and said, "Hit me!" So he struck the prophet and wounded him.H4672H312H376H559H5221H376H5221H5221H6481 38The prophet placed a bandage over his eyes to disguise himself and then waited beside the road for the king.H5030H3212H5975H4428H1870H2664H666H5869 39As the king passed by, the prophet called out to him, "Sir, I was in the thick of battle, and suddenly a man brought me a prisoner. He said, 'Guard this man; if for any reason he gets away, you will either die or pay a fine of seventy-five pounds of silver!'H4428H5674H6817H4428H559H5650H3318H7130H4421H376H5493H935H376H559H8104H376H6485H6485H5315H5315H8254H3603H3701 40But while I was busy doing something else, the prisoner disappeared!" "Well, it's your own fault," the king replied. "You have brought the judgment on yourself."H5650H6213H369H4428H3478H559H4941H2782 41Then the prophet quickly pulled the bandage from his eyes, and the king of Israel recognized him as one of the prophets.H4116H666H5493H5869H4428H3478H5234H5030 42The prophet said to him, "This is what the LORD says: Because you have spared the man I said must be destroyed, now you must die in his place, and your people will die instead of his people."H559H559H3068H7971H3027H376H2764H5315H5315H5971H5971 43So the king of Israel went home to Samaria angry and sullen.H4428H3478H3212H1004H5620H2198H935H8111

Naboth’s Vineyard

21Now there was a man named Naboth, from Jezreel, who owned a vineyard in Jezreel beside the palace of King Ahab of Samaria.H310H1697H5022H3158H3754H3157H681H1964H256H4428H8111 2One day Ahab said to Naboth, "Since your vineyard is so convenient to my palace, I would like to buy it to use as a vegetable garden. I will give you a better vineyard in exchange, or if you prefer, I will pay you for it."H256H1696H5022H559H5414H3754H1588H3419H7138H681H1004H5414H2896H3754H2896H5869H5414H4242H3701 3But Naboth replied, "The LORD forbid that I should give you the inheritance that was passed down by my ancestors."H5022H559H256H3068H2486H5414H5159H1 4So Ahab went home angry and sullen because of Naboth's answer. The king went to bed with his face to the wall and refused to eat!H256H935H1004H5620H2198H1697H5022H3158H1696H559H5414H5159H1H7901H4296H5437H6440H398H3899 5"What's the matter?" his wife Jezebel asked him. "What's made you so upset that you're not eating?"H348H802H935H1696H7307H5620H398H3899 6"I asked Naboth to sell me his vineyard or trade it, but he refused!" Ahab told her.H1696H1696H5022H3158H559H5414H3754H3701H2655H5414H3754H559H5414H3754 7"Are you the king of Israel or not?" Jezebel demanded. "Get up and eat something, and don't worry about it. I'll get you Naboth's vineyard!"H348H802H559H6213H4410H3478H6965H398H3899H3820H3190H5414H3754H5022H3158 8So she wrote letters in Ahab's name, sealed them with his seal, and sent them to the elders and other leaders of the town where Naboth lived.H3789H5612H256H8034H2856H2368H7971H5612H2205H2715H5892H3427H5022 9In her letters she commanded: "Call the citizens together for fasting and prayer, and give Naboth a place of honor.H3789H5612H559H7121H6685H3427H5022H7218H5971 10And then seat two scoundrels across from him who will accuse him of cursing God and the king. Then take him out and stone him to death."H3427H8147H582H1121H1100H5749H559H1288H430H4428H3318H5619H4191 11So the elders and other town leaders followed the instructions Jezebel had written in the letters.H582H5892H2205H2715H3427H5892H6213H348H7971H3789H5612H7971 12They called for a fast and put Naboth at a prominent place before the people.H7121H6685H3427H5022H7218H5971 13Then the two scoundrels came and sat down across from him. And they accused Naboth before all the people, saying, "He cursed God and the king." So he was dragged outside the town and stoned to death.H935H8147H582H1121H1100H3427H582H1100H5749H5022H5971H559H5022H1288H430H4428H3318H2351H5892H5619H68H4191 14The town leaders then sent word to Jezebel, "Naboth has been stoned to death."H7971H348H559H5022H5619H4191 15When Jezebel heard the news, she said to Ahab, "You know the vineyard Naboth wouldn't sell you? Well, you can have it now! He's dead!"H348H8085H5022H5619H4191H348H559H256H6965H3423H3754H5022H3158H3985H5414H3701H5022H2416H4191 16So Ahab immediately went down to the vineyard of Naboth to claim it.H256H8085H5022H4191H256H6965H3381H3754H5022H3158H3423 17But the LORD said to Elijah,H1697H3068H452H8664H559 18"Go down to meet King Ahab of Israel, who rules in Samaria. He will be at Naboth's vineyard in Jezreel, claiming it for himself.H6965H3381H7125H256H4428H3478H8111H3754H5022H3381H3423 19Give him this message: 'This is what the LORD says: Wasn't it enough that you killed Naboth? Must you rob him, too? Because you have done this, dogs will lick your blood at the very place where they licked the blood of Naboth!'"H1696H559H559H3068H7523H3423H1696H559H559H3068H4725H3611H3952H1818H5022H3611H3952H1818 20"So, my enemy, you have found me!" Ahab exclaimed to Elijah."Yes," Elijah answered, "I have come because you have sold yourself to what is evil in the LORD's sight.H256H559H452H4672H341H559H4672H4376H6213H7451H5869H3068 21So now the LORD says, 'I will bring disaster on you and consume you. I will destroy every one of your male descendants, slave and free alike, anywhere in Israel!H935H7451H1197H310H3772H256H8366H7023H6113H5800H3478 22I am going to destroy your family as I did the family of Jeroboam son of Nebat and the family of Baasha son of Ahijah, for you have made me very angry and have led Israel into sin.'H5414H1004H1004H3379H1121H5028H1004H1201H1121H281H3708H3707H3478H2398 23"And regarding Jezebel, the LORD says, 'Dogs will eat Jezebel's body at the plot of land in Jezreel.'H348H1696H3068H559H3611H398H348H2426H3157 24"The members of Ahab's family who die in the city will be eaten by dogs, and those who die in the field will be eaten by vultures."H4191H256H5892H3611H398H4191H7704H5775H8064H398 25(No one else so completely sold himself to what was evil in the LORD's sight as Ahab did under the influence of his wife Jezebel.H256H4376H6213H7451H5869H3068H348H802H5496 26His worst outrage was worshiping idols just as the Amorites had done—the people whom the LORD had driven out from the land ahead of the Israelites.)H3966H8581H3212H310H1544H6213H567H3068H3423H6440H1121H3478 27But when Ahab heard this message, he tore his clothing, dressed in burlap, and fasted. He even slept in burlap and went about in deep mourning.H256H8085H1697H7167H899H7760H8242H1320H6684H7901H8242H1980H328 28Then another message from the LORD came to Elijah.H1697H3068H452H8664H559 29"Do you see how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has done this, I will not do what I promised during his lifetime. It will happen to his sons; I will destroy his dynasty."H7200H256H3665H6440H3282H3665H6440H935H7451H3117H1121H3117H935H7451H1004

Jehoshaphat and Ahab

22For three years there was no war between Aram and Israel.H3427H7969H8141H4421H758H3478 2Then during the third year, King Jehoshaphat of Judah went to visit King Ahab of Israel.H7992H8141H3092H4428H3063H3381H4428H3478 3During the visit, the king of Israel said to his officials, "Do you realize that the town of Ramoth-gilead belongs to us? And yet we've done nothing to recapture it from the king of Aram!"H4428H3478H559H5650H3045H7433H1568H2814H3947H3027H4428H758 4Then he turned to Jehoshaphat and asked, "Will you join me in battle to recover Ramoth-gilead?" Jehoshaphat replied to the king of Israel, "Why, of course! You and I are as one. My troops are your troops, and my horses are your horses."H559H3092H3212H4421H7433H1568H3092H559H4428H3478H3644H5971H5971H5483H5483 5Then Jehoshaphat added, "But first let's find out what the LORD says."H3092H559H4428H3478H1875H1697H3068H3117 6So the king of Israel summoned the prophets, about 400 of them, and asked them, "Should I go to war against Ramoth-gilead, or should I hold back?" They all replied, "Yes, go right ahead! The Lord will give the king victory."H4428H3478H6908H5030H6908H702H3967H376H559H3212H7433H1568H4421H2308H559H5927H136H5414H3027H4428 7But Jehoshaphat asked, "Is there not also a prophet of the LORD here? We should ask him the same question."H3092H559H5030H3068H5750H1875 8The king of Israel replied to Jehoshaphat, "There is one more man who could consult the LORD for us, but I hate him. He never prophesies anything but trouble for me! His name is Micaiah son of Imlah." Jehoshaphat replied, "That's not the way a king should talk! Let's hear what he has to say."H4428H3478H559H3092H259H376H4321H1121H3229H1875H3068H8130H5012H2896H7451H3092H559H4428H559 9So the king of Israel called one of his officials and said, "Quick! Bring Micaiah son of Imlah."H4428H3478H7121H259H5631H559H4116H4321H1121H3229

Micaiah Prophesies against Ahab

10King Ahab of Israel and King Jehoshaphat of Judah, dressed in their royal robes, were sitting on thrones at the threshing floor near the gate of Samaria. All of Ahab's prophets were prophesying there in front of them.H4428H3478H3092H4428H3063H3427H376H3678H3847H899H1637H6607H8179H8111H5030H5012H6440 11One of them, Zedekiah son of Kenaanah, made some iron horns and proclaimed, "This is what the LORD says: With these horns you will gore the Arameans to death!"H6667H1121H3668H6213H7161H1270H559H559H3068H5055H758H3615 12All the other prophets agreed. "Yes," they said, "go up to Ramoth-gilead and be victorious, for the LORD will give the king victory!"H5030H5012H559H5927H7433H1568H6743H3068H5414H4428H3027 13Meanwhile, the messenger who went to get Micaiah said to him, "Look, all the prophets are promising victory for the king. Be sure that you agree with them and promise success."H4397H1980H7121H4321H1696H559H1697H5030H2896H4428H259H6310H1697H1697H259H1696H2896 14But Micaiah replied, "As surely as the LORD lives, I will say only what the LORD tells me to say."H4321H559H3068H2416H3068H559H1696 15When Micaiah arrived before the king, Ahab asked him, "Micaiah, should we go to war against Ramoth-gilead, or should we hold back?" Micaiah replied sarcastically, "Yes, go up and be victorious, for the LORD will give the king victory!"H935H4428H4428H559H4321H3212H7433H1568H4421H2308H559H5927H6743H3068H5414H3027H4428 16But the king replied sharply, "How many times must I demand that you speak only the truth to me when you speak for the LORD?"H4428H559H6471H7650H1696H571H8034H3068 17Then Micaiah told him, "In a vision I saw all Israel scattered on the mountains, like sheep without a shepherd. And the LORD said, 'Their master has been killed. Send them home in peace.'"H559H7200H3478H6327H2022H6629H7462H3068H559H113H7725H376H1004H7965 18"Didn't I tell you?" the king of Israel exclaimed to Jehoshaphat. "He never prophesies anything but trouble for me."H4428H3478H559H3092H559H5012H2896H7451 19Then Micaiah continued, "Listen to what the LORD says! I saw the LORD sitting on his throne with all the armies of heaven around him, on his right and on his left.H559H8085H1697H3068H7200H3068H3427H3678H6635H8064H5975H3225H8040 20And the LORD said, 'Who can entice Ahab to go into battle against Ramoth-gilead so he can be killed?' "There were many suggestions,H3068H559H6601H256H5927H5307H7433H1568H559H3541H559H3541 21and finally a spirit approached the LORD and said, 'I can do it!'H3318H7307H5975H6440H3068H559H6601 22"'How will you do this?' the LORD asked. "And the spirit replied, 'I will go out and inspire all of Ahab's prophets to speak lies.' "'You will succeed,' said the LORD. 'Go ahead and do it.'H3068H559H559H3318H8267H7307H6310H5030H559H6601H3201H3318H6213 23"So you see, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouths of all your prophets. For the LORD has pronounced your doom."H3068H5414H8267H7307H6310H5030H3068H1696H7451 24Then Zedekiah son of Kenaanah walked up to Micaiah and slapped him across the face. "Since when did the Spirit of the LORD leave me to speak to you?" he demanded.H6667H1121H3668H5066H5221H4321H3895H559H335H5674H7307H3068H1696 25And Micaiah replied, "You will find out soon enough when you are trying to hide in some secret room!"H4321H559H7200H3117H935H2315H2315H2247 26"Arrest him!" the king of Israel ordered. "Take him back to Amon, the governor of the city, and to my son Joash.H4428H3478H559H3947H4321H7725H526H8269H5892H3101H4428H1121 27Give them this order from the king: 'Put this man in prison, and feed him nothing but bread and water until I return safely from the battle!'"H559H559H4428H7760H1004H3608H398H3899H3906H4325H3906H935H7965 28But Micaiah replied, "If you return safely, it will mean that the LORD has not spoken through me!" Then he added to those standing around, "Everyone mark my words!"H4321H559H7725H7725H7965H3068H1696H559H8085H5971

The Death of Ahab

29So King Ahab of Israel and King Jehoshaphat of Judah led their armies against Ramoth-gilead.H4428H3478H3092H4428H3063H5927H7433H1568 30The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "As we go into battle, I will disguise myself so no one will recognize me, but you wear your royal robes." So the king of Israel disguised himself, and they went into battle.H4428H3478H559H3092H2664H935H4421H3847H899H4428H3478H2664H935H4421 31Meanwhile, the king of Aram had issued these orders to his thirty-two chariot commanders: "Attack only the king of Israel. Don't bother with anyone else!"H4428H758H6680H7970H8147H8269H7393H559H3898H6996H1419H4428H3478 32So when the Aramean chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat in his royal robes, they went after him. "There is the king of Israel!" they shouted. But when Jehoshaphat called out,H8269H7393H7200H3092H559H4428H3478H5493H3898H3092H2199 33the chariot commanders realized he was not the king of Israel, and they stopped chasing him.H8269H7393H7200H4428H3478H7725H310 34An Aramean soldier, however, randomly shot an arrow at the Israelite troops and hit the king of Israel between the joints of his armor. "Turn the horses and get me out of here!" Ahab groaned to the driver of his chariot. "I'm badly wounded!"H376H4900H7198H8537H5221H4428H3478H1694H8302H559H7395H2015H3027H3318H4264H2470 35The battle raged all that day, and the king remained propped up in his chariot facing the Arameans. The blood from his wound ran down to the floor of his chariot, and as evening arrived he died.H4421H5927H3117H4428H5975H4818H5227H758H4191H6153H1818H3332H4347H2436H7393 36Just as the sun was setting, the cry ran through his troops: "We're done for! Run for your lives!"H5674H7440H4264H935H8121H559H376H5892H376H776 37So the king died, and his body was taken to Samaria and buried there.H4428H4191H935H8111H6912H4428H8111 38Then his chariot was washed beside the pool of Samaria, and dogs came and licked his blood at the place where the prostitutes bathed, just as the LORD had promised.H7857H7393H1295H8111H3611H3952H1818H7364H2185H1697H3068H1696 39The rest of the events in Ahab's reign and everything he did, including the story of the ivory palace and the towns he built, are recorded in The Book of the History of the Kings of Israel.H3499H1697H256H6213H8127H1004H1129H5892H1129H3789H5612H1697H3117H4428H3478 40So Ahab died, and his son Ahaziah became the next king.H256H7901H1H274H1121H4427

His mother was Azubah, the daughter of Shilhi.H3092H7970H2568H8141H1121H4427H4427H6242H2568H8141H3389H517H8034H5806H1323H7977 43Jehoshaphat was a good king, following the example of his father, Asa. He did what was pleasing in the LORD's sight. During his reign, however, he failed to remove all the pagan shrines, and the people still offered sacrifices and burned incense there.H3212H1870H609H1H5493H6213H3477H5869H3068H1116H5493H5971H2076H6999H1116 44Jehoshaphat also made peace with the king of Israel.H3092H7999H4428H3478 45The rest of the events in Jehoshaphat's reign, the extent of his power, and the wars he waged are recorded in The Book of the History of the Kings of Judah.H3499H1697H3092H1369H6213H3898H3789H5612H1697H3117H4428H3063 46He banished from the land the rest of the male and female shrine prostitutes, who still continued their practices from the days of his father, Asa.H3499H6945H7604H3117H1H609H1197H776 47(There was no king in Edom at that time, only a deputy.)H4428H123H5324H4428 48Jehoshaphat also built a fleet of trading ships to sail to Ophir for gold. But the ships never set sail, for they met with disaster in their home port of Ezion-geber.H3092H6213H6240H591H8659H3212H211H2091H1980H591H7665H6100 49At one time Ahaziah son of Ahab had proposed to Jehoshaphat, "Let my men sail with your men in the ships." But Jehoshaphat refused the request.H559H274H1121H256H3092H5650H3212H5650H591H3092H14 50When Jehoshaphat died, he was buried with his ancestors in the City of David. Then his son Jehoram became the next king.H3092H7901H1H6912H1H5892H1732H1H3088H1121H4427
