9Jesus went on to say, "I tell you the truth, some standing here right now will not die before they see the Kingdom of God arrive in great power!"G2532G3004G846G281G3004G5213G3754G1526G5100G2476G5602G3748G1089G3364G1089G2288G2193G302G1492G932G2316G2064G1722G1411

The Transfiguration

2Six days later Jesus took Peter, James, and John, and led them up a high mountain to be alone. As the men watched, Jesus' appearance was transformed,G2532G3326G1803G2250G2424G3880G4074G2532G2385G2532G2491G2532G399G846G399G1519G5308G3735G2596G2398G3441G2532G3339G1715G846 3and his clothes became dazzling white, far whiter than any earthly bleach could ever make them.G2532G846G2440G1096G4744G3029G3022G5613G5510G3634G3756G1102G1909G1093G1410G3021 4Then Elijah and Moses appeared and began talking with Jesus.G2532G3700G846G2243G4862G3475G2532G2258G4814G2424 5Peter exclaimed, "Rabbi, it's wonderful for us to be here! Let's make three shelters as memorials—one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah."G2532G4074G611G3004G2424G4461G2076G2570G2248G1511G5602G2532G4160G5140G4633G3391G4671G2532G3391G3475G2532G3391G2243 6He said this because he didn't really know what else to say, for they were all terrified.G1063G1492G3756G5101G2980G1063G2258G1630 7Then a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my dearly loved Son. Listen to him."G2532G1096G3507G1982G846G2532G5456G2064G1537G3507G3004G3778G2076G3450G27G5207G191G846 8Suddenly, when they looked around, Moses and Elijah were gone, and they saw only Jesus with them.G2532G1819G4017G1492G3762G3765G235G2424G3441G3326G1438 9As they went back down the mountain, he told them not to tell anyone what they had seen until the Son of Man had risen from the dead.G1161G846G2597G575G3735G1291G846G2443G1334G3367G3739G1492G1508G3752G5207G444G450G1537G3498 10So they kept it to themselves, but they often asked each other what he meant by "rising from the dead."G2532G2902G3056G4314G1438G4802G5101G450G1537G3498G2076 11Then they asked him, "Why do the teachers of religious law insist that Elijah must return before the Messiah comes?"G2532G1905G846G3004G3754G3004G1122G3754G2243G1163G4412G2064 12Jesus responded, "Elijah is indeed coming first to get everything ready. Yet why do the Scriptures say that the Son of Man must suffer greatly and be treated with utter contempt?G1161G611G2036G846G2243G3303G2064G4412G600G3956G2532G4459G1125G1909G5207G444G2443G3958G4183G2532G1847 13But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they chose to abuse him, just as the Scriptures predicted."G235G3004G5213G3754G2243G2064G2532G2064G2532G4160G846G3745G2309G2531G1125G1909G846

Jesus Heals a Demon-Possessed Boy

14When they returned to the other disciples, they saw a large crowd surrounding them, and some teachers of religious law were arguing with them.G2532G2064G4314G3101G1492G4183G3793G4012G846G2532G1122G4802G846 15When the crowd saw Jesus, they were overwhelmed with awe, and they ran to greet him.G2532G2112G3956G3793G1492G846G1568G2532G4370G782G846 16"What is all this arguing about?" Jesus asked.G2532G1905G1122G5101G4802G4314G846 17One of the men in the crowd spoke up and said, "Teacher, I brought my son so you could heal him. He is possessed by an evil spirit that won't let him talk.G2532G1520G1537G3793G611G2036G1320G5342G4314G4571G3450G5207G2192G216G4151 18And whenever this spirit seizes him, it throws him violently to the ground. Then he foams at the mouth and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid. So I asked your disciples to cast out the evil spirit, but they couldn't do it."G2532G3699G302G2638G846G4486G846G2532G875G2532G5149G846G3599G2532G3583G2532G2036G4675G3101G2443G1544G846G1544G2532G2480G3756 19Jesus said to them, "You faithless people! How long must I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring the boy to me."G611G846G1161G3004G5599G571G1074G2193G4219G2071G4314G5209G2193G4219G430G5216G5342G846G4314G3165 20So they brought the boy. But when the evil spirit saw Jesus, it threw the child into a violent convulsion, and he fell to the ground, writhing and foaming at the mouth.G2532G5342G846G4314G846G2532G1492G846G2112G4151G4682G846G2532G4098G1909G1093G2947G875 21"How long has this been happening?" Jesus asked the boy's father. He replied, "Since he was a little boy.G2532G1905G846G3962G4214G2076G5550G5613G5124G1096G846G1161G2036G3812 22The spirit often throws him into the fire or into water, trying to kill him. Have mercy on us and help us, if you can."G2532G4178G906G846G2532G1519G4442G2532G1519G5204G2443G622G846G235G1536G1410G1536G4697G1909G2248G997G2254 23"What do you mean, 'If I can'?" Jesus asked. "Anything is possible if a person believes."G1161G2424G2036G846G1487G1410G4100G3956G1415G846G4100 24The father instantly cried out, "I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!"G2532G2112G3962G3813G2896G3004G3326G1144G2962G4100G997G3450G570 25When Jesus saw that the crowd of onlookers was growing, he rebuked the evil spirit. "Listen, you spirit that makes this boy unable to hear and speak," he said. "I command you to come out of this child and never enter him again!"G1161G2424G1492G3754G3793G1998G2008G169G4151G3004G846G216G2532G2974G4151G1473G2004G4671G1831G1537G846G2532G1525G3371G1519G846 26Then the spirit screamed and threw the boy into another violent convulsion and left him. The boy appeared to be dead. A murmur ran through the crowd as people said, "He's dead."G2532G2896G2532G4682G846G4183G1831G2532G1096G5616G3498G5620G3754G4183G3004G599 27But Jesus took him by the hand and helped him to his feet, and he stood up.G1161G2424G2902G846G5495G1453G846G1453G2532G450 28Afterward, when Jesus was alone in the house with his disciples, they asked him, "Why couldn't we cast out that evil spirit?"G2532G846G1525G1519G3624G846G3101G1905G846G2596G2398G3754G1410G3756G2249G1544G846G1544 29Jesus replied, "This kind can be cast out only by prayer."G2532G2036G846G5124G1085G1410G1831G1722G3762G1508G1722G4335G2532G3521

Jesus Again Predicts His Death

30Leaving that region, they traveled through Galilee. Jesus didn't want anyone to know he was there,G2532G1831G1564G3899G1223G1056G2532G2309G3756G2443G5100G1097 31for he wanted to spend more time with his disciples and teach them. He said to them, "The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of his enemies. He will be killed, but three days later he will rise from the dead."G1063G1321G846G3101G2532G3004G846G3754G5207G444G3860G1519G5495G444G2532G615G846G2532G615G450G5154G2250 32They didn't understand what he was saying, however, and they were afraid to ask him what he meant.G1161G50G4487G2532G5399G1905G846

The Greatest in the Kingdom

33After they arrived at Capernaum and settled in a house, Jesus asked his disciples, "What were you discussing out on the road?"G2532G2064G1519G2584G2532G1096G1722G3614G1905G846G5101G1260G4314G1438G1722G3598 34But they didn't answer, because they had been arguing about which of them was the greatest.G1161G4623G1063G1722G3598G1256G4314G240G5101G3187 35He sat down, called the twelve disciples over to him, and said, "Whoever wants to be first must take last place and be the servant of everyone else."G2532G2523G5455G1427G2532G3004G846G1536G2309G1511G4413G2071G2078G3956G2532G1249G3956 36Then he put a little child among them. Taking the child in his arms, he said to them,G2532G2983G3813G2476G846G1722G3319G846G2532G1723G846G1723G2036G846 37"Anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes not only me but also my Father who sent me."G3739G1437G1209G1520G5108G3813G1909G3450G3686G1209G1691G2532G3739G1437G1209G1691G1209G3756G1691G235G649G3165

Using the Name of Jesus

38John said to Jesus, "Teacher, we saw someone using your name to cast out demons, but we told him to stop because he wasn't in our group."G1161G2491G611G846G3004G1320G1492G5100G1544G1140G4675G3686G3739G190G3756G2254G2532G2967G846G3754G190G3756G2254 39"Don't stop him!" Jesus said. "No one who performs a miracle in my name will soon be able to speak evil of me.G1161G2424G2036G2967G846G3361G1063G2076G3762G3739G4160G1411G1909G3450G3686G2532G1410G5035G2551G3165 40Anyone who is not against us is for us.G1063G3739G2076G3756G2596G2257G2076G5228G2257G5228 41If anyone gives you even a cup of water because you belong to the Messiah, I tell you the truth, that person will surely be rewarded.G1063G3739G302G4222G5209G4221G5204G4222G1722G3450G3686G3754G2075G5547G281G3004G5213G622G3364G622G846G3408 42"But if you cause one of these little ones who trusts in me to fall into sin, it would be better for you to be thrown into the sea with a large millstone hung around your neck.G2532G3739G302G4624G1520G3398G4100G1519G1691G2076G2570G3123G846G1487G3037G3457G4029G4012G846G5137G2532G906G1519G2281 43If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It's better to enter eternal life with only one hand than to go into the unquenchable fires of hell with two hands.G2532G1437G4675G5495G4624G4571G609G846G609G2076G2570G4671G1525G1519G2222G2948G2228G2192G1417G5495G565G1519G1067G1519G4442G762 44G3699G846G4663G5053G3756G2532G4442G4570G3756G4570 45If your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It's better to enter eternal life with only one foot than to be thrown into hell with two feet.G2532G1437G4675G4228G4624G4571G609G846G609G2076G2570G4671G1525G5560G1519G2222G2228G2192G1417G4228G906G1519G1067G1519G4442G762 46G3699G846G4663G5053G3756G2532G4442G4570G3756G4570 47And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out. It's better to enter the Kingdom of God with only one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell,G2532G1437G4675G3788G4624G4571G1544G846G1544G2076G2570G4671G1525G1519G932G2316G3442G2228G2192G1417G3788G906G1519G1067G4442 48'where the maggots never die and the fire never goes out.'G3699G846G4663G5053G3756G2532G4442G4570G3756G4570 49"For everyone will be tested with fire.G1063G3956G233G4442G2532G3956G2378G233G251 50Salt is good for seasoning. But if it loses its flavor, how do you make it salty again? You must have the qualities of salt among yourselves and live in peace with each other."G217G2570G1161G1437G217G1096G358G1722G5101G741G846G2192G217G1722G1438G2532G1514G240G1722G240

Discussion about Divorce and Marriage

10Then Jesus left Capernaum and went down to the region of Judea and into the area east of the Jordan River. Once again crowds gathered around him, and as usual he was teaching them.G2547G450G2547G2064G1519G3725G2449G1223G4008G2446G2532G3793G4848G4314G846G3825G2532G5613G1486G1321G846G3825 2Some Pharisees came and tried to trap him with this question: "Should a man be allowed to divorce his wife?"G2532G5330G4334G1905G846G1487G1832G435G630G1135G3985G846 3Jesus answered them with a question: "What did Moses say in the law about divorce?"G1161G611G2036G846G5101G3475G1781G5213 4"Well, he permitted it," they replied. "He said a man can give his wife a written notice of divorce and send her away."G1161G2036G3475G2010G1125G975G647G2532G630 5But Jesus responded, "He wrote this commandment only as a concession to your hard hearts.G2532G2424G611G2036G846G4314G4641G5216G4641G1125G5213G5026G1785 6But 'God made them male and female' from the beginning of creation.G1161G575G746G2937G2316G4160G846G730G2532G2338 7'This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife,G1752G5127G2641G444G2641G846G3962G2532G3384G2532G4347G4314G846G1135 8and the two are united into one.' Since they are no longer two but one,G2532G1417G2071G1519G3391G4561G5620G1526G3765G1417G235G3391G4561 9let no one split apart what God has joined together."G3739G3767G2316G4801G5563G3361G444G5563 10Later, when he was alone with his disciples in the house, they brought up the subject again.G2532G1722G3614G846G3101G1905G846G3825G4012G846 11He told them, "Whoever divorces his wife and marries someone else commits adultery against her.G2532G3004G846G3739G1437G630G846G1135G2532G1060G243G3429G1909G846 12And if a woman divorces her husband and marries someone else, she commits adultery."G2532G1437G1135G630G846G435G2532G1060G243G3429

Jesus Blesses the Children

13One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could touch and bless them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering him.G2532G4374G3813G846G2443G680G846G1161G3101G2008G4374 14When Jesus saw what was happening, he was angry with his disciples. He said to them, "Let the children come to me. Don't stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children.G1161G2424G1492G23G2532G2036G846G863G3813G2064G4314G3165G2532G2967G846G3361G1063G5108G2076G932G2316 15I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn't receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it."G281G3004G5213G3739G1209G3362G1209G932G2316G5613G3813G1525G3364G1525G1519G846 16Then he took the children in his arms and placed his hands on their heads and blessed them.G2532G1723G846G1723G5087G5495G1909G846G2127G846

The Rich Man

17As Jesus was starting out on his way to Jerusalem, a man came running up to him, knelt down, and asked, "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"G2532G1607G1519G846G3598G4370G1520G4370G2532G1120G846G1905G846G18G1320G5101G4160G2443G2816G166G2222 18"Why do you call me good?" Jesus asked. "Only God is truly good.G1161G2424G2036G846G5101G3004G3165G18G3762G18G1508G1520G2316 19But to answer your question, you know the commandments: 'You must not murder. You must not commit adultery. You must not steal. You must not testify falsely. You must not cheat anyone. Honor your father and mother.'"G1492G1785G3431G3361G3431G5407G3361G5407G2813G3361G2813G5576G3361G5576G650G3361G5091G4675G3962G2532G3384 20"Teacher," the man replied, "I've obeyed all these commandments since I was young."G1161G611G2036G846G1320G3956G5023G5442G1537G3450G3503 21Looking at the man, Jesus felt genuine love for him. "There is still one thing you haven't done," he told him. "Go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. But Jesus said again, "Dear children, it is very hard to enter the Kingdom of God.G1161G3101G2284G1909G846G3056G1161G2424G611G3825G3004G846G5043G4459G1422G2076G3982G1909G5536G1525G1519G932G2316 25In fact, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God!"G2076G2123G2574G1525G1330G1223G5168G4476G2228G4145G1525G1519G932G2316 26The disciples were astounded. "Then who in the world can be saved?" they asked.G1161G1605G4057G3004G4314G1438G2532G5101G1410G4982 27Jesus looked at them intently and said, "Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But not with God. Jesus Again Predicts His Death

32They were now on the way up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them. The disciples were filled with awe, and the people following behind were overwhelmed with fear. Taking the twelve disciples aside, Jesus once more began to describe everything that was about to happen to him.G1161G2258G1722G3598G305G1519G2414G2532G2424G2258G4254G846G2532G2284G2532G190G5399G2532G3880G3825G1427G756G3004G846G3195G4819G846 33"Listen," he said, "we're going up to Jerusalem, where the Son of Man will be betrayed to the leading priests and the teachers of religious law. They will sentence him to die and hand him over to the Romans.G3754G2400G305G1519G2414G2532G5207G444G3860G749G2532G1122G2532G2632G846G2288G2532G3860G846G1484 34They will mock him, spit on him, flog him with a whip, and kill him, but after three days he will rise again."G2532G1702G846G2532G3146G846G2532G1716G846G2532G615G846G2532G5154G2250G450

Jesus Teaches about Serving Others

35Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came over and spoke to him. "Teacher," they said, "we want you to do us a favor."G2532G2385G2532G2491G5207G2199G4365G846G3004G1320G2309G2443G4160G2254G3739G1437G154 36"What is your request?" he asked.G1161G2036G846G5101G2309G3165G4160G5213 37They replied, "When you sit on your glorious throne, we want to sit in places of honor next to you, one on your right and the other on your left."G1161G2036G846G1325G2254G2443G2523G1520G1537G4675G1188G2532G1520G1537G4675G2176G1722G4675G1391 38But Jesus said to them, "You don't know what you are asking! Are you able to drink from the bitter cup of suffering I am about to drink? Are you able to be baptized with the baptism of suffering I must be baptized with?"G1161G2424G2036G846G1492G3756G5101G154G1410G4095G4221G3739G1473G4095G2532G907G908G3739G1473G907 39"Oh yes," they replied, "we are able!" Then Jesus told them, "You will indeed drink from my bitter cup and be baptized with my baptism of suffering.G1161G2036G846G1410G1161G2424G2036G846G4095G3303G4095G4221G3739G1473G4095G2532G908G3739G1473G907G907 40But I have no right to say who will sit on my right or my left. God has prepared those places for the ones he has chosen."G1161G2523G1537G3450G1188G2532G1537G3450G2176G2076G3756G1699G1325G235G3739G2090 41When the ten other disciples heard what James and John had asked, they were indignant.G2532G1176G191G756G23G4012G2385G2532G2491 42So Jesus called them together and said, "You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them.G1161G2424G4341G846G3004G846G1492G3754G1380G757G1484G2634G846G2532G846G3173G2715G846 43But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant,G1161G3779G2071G3756G2071G1722G5213G235G3739G1437G2309G1096G3173G1722G5213G2071G5216G1249 44and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else.G2532G3739G302G5216G2309G1096G4413G2071G1401G3956 45For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many."G1063G2532G5207G444G2064G3756G1247G235G1247G2532G1325G846G5590G3083G473G4183

Jesus Heals Blind Bartimaeus

46Then they reached Jericho, and as Jesus and his disciples left town, a large crowd followed him. A blind beggar named Bartimaeus was sitting beside the road.G2532G2064G1519G2410G2532G846G1607G575G2410G2532G846G3101G2532G2425G3793G5185G924G5207G5090G2521G3844G3598G4319 47When Bartimaeus heard that Jesus of Nazareth was nearby, he began to shout, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!"G2532G191G3754G2076G2424G3480G756G2896G2532G3004G2424G5207G1138G1653G3165 48"Be quiet!" many of the people yelled at him. But he only shouted louder, "Son of David, have mercy on me!"G2532G4183G2008G846G2443G4623G1161G2896G3123G4183G5207G1138G1653G3165 49When Jesus heard him, he stopped and said, "Tell him to come here." So they called the blind man. "Cheer up," they said. "Come on, he's calling you!"G2532G2424G2476G2036G846G5455G2532G5455G5185G3004G846G2293G1453G5455G4571 50Bartimaeus threw aside his coat, jumped up, and came to Jesus.G1161G577G846G2440G450G2064G4314G2424 51"What do you want me to do for you?" Jesus asked. "My rabbi," the blind man said, "I want to see!"G2532G2424G611G3004G846G5101G2309G4160G4671G1161G5185G2036G846G4462G2443G308 52And Jesus said to him, "Go, for your faith has healed you." Instantly the man could see, and he followed Jesus down the road.G1161G2424G2036G846G5217G4675G4102G4982G4571G4982G2532G2112G308G2532G190G2424G1722G3598
