Jesus and His Brothers

7After this, Jesus traveled around Galilee. He wanted to stay out of Judea, where the Jewish leaders were plotting his death.G2532G3326G5023G2424G4043G1722G1056G1063G2309G3756G4043G1722G2449G3754G2453G2212G615G846 2But soon it was time for the Jewish Festival of Shelters,G1161G2453G1859G4634G2258G1451 3and Jesus' brothers said to him, "Leave here and go to Judea, where your followers can see your miracles!G846G80G3767G2036G4314G846G3327G1782G2532G5217G1519G2449G2443G4675G3101G2532G2334G2041G3739G4675G4160 4You can't become famous if you hide like this! If you can do such wonderful things, show yourself to the world!"G1063G3762G4160G5100G1722G2927G2532G846G2212G1511G1722G3954G1487G4160G5023G5319G4572G2889 5For even his brothers didn't believe in him.G1063G3761G4100G846G80G4100G1519G846 6Jesus replied, "Now is not the right time for me to go, but you can go anytime.G3767G2424G3004G846G1699G2540G3918G3768G3918G1161G5212G2540G2076G3842G2092 7The world can't hate you, but it does hate me because I accuse it of doing evil.G2889G3756G1410G3404G5209G1161G1691G3404G3754G1473G3140G4012G846G3754G2041G846G2076G4190 8You go on. I'm not goingc to this festival, because my time has not yet come."G305G5210G305G1519G5026G1859G1473G305G3768G305G3768G1519G5026G1859G3754G1699G2540G4137G3768G4137 9After saying these things, Jesus remained in Galilee.G1161G2036G5023G846G3306G1722G1056

Jesus Teaches Openly at the Temple

10But after his brothers left for the festival, Jesus also went, though secretly, staying out of public view.G1161G5613G846G80G305G5119G305G846G2532G305G1519G1859G3756G5320G235G5613G1722G2927 11The Jewish leaders tried to find him at the festival and kept asking if anyone had seen him.G3767G2453G2212G846G1722G1859G2532G3004G4226G2076G1565 12There was a lot of grumbling about him among the crowds. Some argued, "He's a good man," but others said, "He's nothing but a fraud who deceives the people."G2532G2258G4183G1112G1722G3793G4012G846G3303G3004G3754G2076G18G1161G243G3004G3756G235G4105G3793 13But no one had the courage to speak favorably about him in public, for they were afraid of getting in trouble with the Jewish leaders.G3305G3762G2980G3954G4012G846G1223G5401G2453 14Then, midway through the festival, Jesus went up to the Temple and began to teach.G2235G1161G3322G1859G2424G305G1519G2411G2532G1321 15The peoplec were surprised when they heard him. "How does he know so much when he hasn't been trained?" they asked.G2532G2453G2296G3004G4459G1492G3778G1121G3129G3361G3129 16So Jesus told them, "My message is not my own; it comes from God who sent me.G2424G611G846G2532G2036G1699G1322G2076G3756G1699G235G3992G3165 17Anyone who wants to do the will of God will know whether my teaching is from God or is merely my own.G1437G5100G2309G4160G846G2307G1097G4012G1322G4220G2076G1537G2316G2228G1473G2980G575G1683 18Those who speak for themselves want glory only for themselves, but a person who seeks to honor the one who sent him speaks truth, not lies.G2980G575G1438G2212G2398G1391G1161G2212G1391G3992G846G3778G2076G227G2532G3756G93G2076G1722G846 19Moses gave you the law, but none of you obeys it! In fact, you are trying to kill me."G1325G3756G3475G1325G5213G3551G2532G3762G1537G5216G4160G3551G5101G2212G615G3165 20The crowd replied, "You're demon possessed! Who's trying to kill you?"G3793G611G2532G2036G2192G1140G5101G2212G615G4571 21Jesus replied, "I did one miracle on the Sabbath, and you were amazed.G2424G611G2532G2036G846G4160G1520G2041G2532G2296G3956G2296 22But you work on the Sabbath, too, when you obey Moses' law of circumcision. cG3475G1223G5124G1325G5213G4061G3756G3754G2076G1537G3475G235G1537G3962G2532G4059G1722G4521G4059G444 23For if the correct time for circumcising your son falls on the Sabbath, you go ahead and do it so as not to break the law of Moses. So why should you be angry with me for healing a man on the Sabbath?G1487G444G1722G4521G2983G4061G3363G3551G3475G3089G3363G3089G5520G1698G3754G4160G444G3650G5199G1722G4521 24Look beneath the surface so you can judge correctly."G2919G3361G2596G3799G235G2919G1342G2920

Is Jesus the Messiah?

25Some of the people who lived in Jerusalem started to ask each other, "Isn't this the man they are trying to kill?G3767G3004G5100G1537G2415G2076G3756G3778G3739G2212G615 26But here he is, speaking in public, and they say nothing to him. Could our leaders possibly believe that he is the Messiah?G2532G2396G2980G3954G2532G3004G3762G846G1097G758G1097G3379G230G3754G3778G2076G230G5547 27But how could he be? For we know where this man comes from. When the Messiah comes, he will simply appear; no one will know where he comes from."G235G1492G5126G4159G2076G1161G3752G5547G2064G3762G1097G4159G2076 28While Jesus was teaching in the Temple, he called out, "Yes, you know me, and you know where I come from. But I'm not here on my own. The one who sent me is true, and you don't know him.G3767G2896G2424G1722G2411G1321G2532G3004G2504G1492G2532G1492G4159G1510G2532G2064G3756G2064G575G1683G235G3992G3165G2076G228G3739G5210G1492G3756 29But I know him because I come from him, and he sent me to you."G1161G1473G1492G846G3754G1510G3844G846G2548G649G3165 30Then the leaders tried to arrest him; but no one laid a hand on him, because his timec had not yet come.G3767G2212G4084G846G2532G3762G1911G5495G1909G846G3754G846G5610G2064G3768G2064 31Many among the crowds at the Temple believed in him. "After all," they said, "would you expect the Messiah to do more miraculous signs than this man has done?"G1161G4183G1537G3793G4100G1519G846G2532G3004G3754G3752G5547G2064G3385G4160G4119G4592G5130G3739G3778G4160 32When the Pharisees heard that the crowds were whispering such things, they and the leading priests sent Temple guards to arrest Jesus.G5330G191G3793G1111G5023G4012G846G2532G5330G2532G749G649G5257G2443G4084G846 33But Jesus told them, "I will be with you only a little longer. Then I will return to the one who sent me.G3767G2036G2424G846G2089G3398G5550G1510G3326G5216G2532G5217G4314G3992G3165 34You will search for me but not find me. And you cannot go where I am going."G2212G3165G2532G2147G3756G2147G2532G3699G1473G1510G5210G3756G1410G2064 35The Jewish leaders were puzzled by this statement. "Where is he planning to go?" they asked. "Is he thinking of leaving the country and going to the Jews in other lands?c Maybe he will even teach the Greeks!G3767G2036G2453G4314G1438G4226G3195G3778G4198G3754G2249G2147G3756G2147G846G3361G3195G4198G1519G1290G1672G2532G1321G1672 36What does he mean when he says, 'You will search for me but not find me,' and 'You cannot go where I am going'?"G5101G3056G2076G3778G3739G2036G2212G3165G2532G2147G3756G2147G2532G3699G1473G1510G5210G3756G1410G2064

Jesus Promises Living Water

37On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, "Anyone who is thirsty may come to me!G1161G1722G2078G2250G3173G1859G2424G2476G2532G2896G3004G1437G5100G1372G2064G4314G3165G2532G4095 38Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, 'Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.'"cG4100G1519G1691G2531G1124G2036G1537G846G2836G4482G4215G2198G5204 39(When he said "living water," he was speaking of the Spirit, who would be given to everyone believing in him. But the Spirit had not yet been givenc, because Jesus had not yet entered into his glory.)G1161G5124G2036G4012G4151G3739G4100G1519G846G3195G2983G1063G40G4151G2258G3768G3754G2424G1392G3764G1392

Division and Unbelief

40When the crowds heard him say this, some of them declared, "Surely this man is the Prophet we've been expecting."cG4183G1537G3793G3767G191G3056G3004G230G3778G2076G4396 41Others said, "He is the Messiah." Still others said, "But he can't be! Will the Messiah come from Galilee?G243G3004G3778G2076G5547G1161G243G3004G1063G3361G5547G2064G1537G1056 42For the Scriptures clearly state that the Messiah will be born of the royal line of David, in Bethlehem, the village where King David was born."cG3780G1124G2036G3754G5547G2064G1537G4690G1138G2532G575G2968G965G3699G1138G2258 43So the crowd was divided about him.G3767G1096G4978G1722G3793G1223G846 44Some even wanted him arrested, but no one laid a hand on him.G1161G5100G1537G846G2309G4084G846G235G3762G1911G5495G1909G846 45When the Temple guards returned without having arrested Jesus, the leading priests and Pharisees demanded, "Why didn't you bring him in?"G3767G2064G5257G4314G749G2532G5330G2532G1565G2036G846G1302G71G3756G71G846 46"We have never heard anyone speak like this!" the guards responded.G5257G611G3763G444G3779G2980G5613G3778G444 47"Have you been led astray, too?" the Pharisees mocked.G3767G611G846G5330G4105G5210G2532G4105G3361 48"Is there a single one of us rulers or Pharisees who believes in him?G3387G1537G758G2228G1537G5330G4100G1519G846 49This foolish crowd follows him, but they are ignorant of the law. God's curse is on them!"G235G3778G3793G3588G1097G3361G3551G1526G1944 50Then Nicodemus, the leader who had met with Jesus earlier, spoke up.G3530G3004G4314G846G2064G846G4314G3571G5607G1520G1537G846 51"Is it legal to convict a man before he is given a hearing?" he asked.G2919G2257G3551G2919G3361G444G4386G3362G191G3844G846G2532G1097G5101G4160 52They replied, "Are you from Galilee, too? Search the Scriptures and see for yourself—no prophet ever comesc from Galilee!"G611G2532G2036G846G3361G1488G4771G2532G1537G1056G2045G2532G1492G3754G1537G1056G1453G3756G4396 53[The most ancient Greek manuscripts do not include John 7.53-8.11.] Then the meeting broke up, and everybody went home.G2532G1538G4198G1519G846G3624

A Woman Caught in Adultery

8Jesus returned to the Mount of Olives,G1161G2424G4198G1519G3735G1636 2but early the next morning he was back again at the Temple. A crowd soon gathered, and he sat down and taught them.G1161G3722G3854G3825G1519G2411G2532G3956G2992G2064G4314G846G2532G2523G1321G846 3As he was speaking, the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in the act of adultery. They put her in front of the crowd.G1161G1122G2532G5330G71G4314G846G1135G2638G1722G3430G2532G2476G846G1722G3319 4"Teacher," they said to Jesus, "this woman was caught in the act of adultery.G3004G846G1320G3778G1135G2638G3431G1888 5The law of Moses says to stone her. What do you say?"G1161G3475G1722G3551G1781G2254G5108G3036G3767G5101G3004G4771 6They were trying to trap him into saying something they could use against him, but Jesus stooped down and wrote in the dust with his finger.G1161G5124G3004G3985G846G2443G2192G2723G846G1161G2424G2955G2736G1147G1125G1519G1093G4364G3361 7They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said, "All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!"G1161G5613G1961G2065G846G352G2036G4314G846G361G5216G906G4413G906G3037G1909G846 8Then he stooped down again and wrote in the dust.G2532G3825G2955G2736G1125G1519G1093 9When the accusers heard this, they slipped away one by one, beginning with the oldest, until only Jesus was left in the middle of the crowd with the woman.G1161G191G2532G1651G5259G4893G1831G1527G756G575G4245G2193G2078G2532G2424G2641G3441G2532G1135G2476G1722G3319 10Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, "Where are your accusers? Didn't even one of them condemn you?"G1161G2424G352G2532G2300G3367G4133G1135G2036G846G1135G4226G1526G1565G4675G2725G2632G3762G2632G4571 11"No, Lord," she said. And Jesus said, "Neither do I. Go and sin no more."G1161G2036G3762G2962G1161G2424G2036G846G3761G2632G1473G2632G4571G4198G2532G264G3371

Jesus, the Light of the World

12Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, "I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won't have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life."G3767G2980G2424G3825G846G3004G1473G1510G5457G2889G190G1698G4043G3364G4043G1722G4653G235G2192G5457G2222 13The Pharisees replied, "You are making those claims about yourself! Such testimony is not valid."G5330G3767G2036G846G4771G3140G4012G4572G4675G3141G2076G3756G227 14Jesus told them, "These claims are valid even though I make them about myself. For I know where I came from and where I am going, but you don't know this about me.G2424G611G2532G2036G846G2579G1473G3140G4012G1683G3450G3141G2076G227G3754G1492G4159G2064G2532G4226G5217G1161G5210G3756G1492G4159G2064G2532G4226G5217 15You judge me by human standards, but I do not judge anyone.G5210G2919G2596G4561G1473G2919G3756G3762 16And if I did, my judgment would be correct in every respect because I am not alone. The Fatherc who sent me is with me.G1161G2532G1437G1473G2919G1699G2920G2076G227G3754G1510G3756G3441G235G1473G2532G3962G3992G3165 17Your own law says that if two people agree about something, their witness is accepted as factc.G2532G1125G1161G1125G1722G5212G3551G3754G3141G1417G444G2076G227 18I am one witness, and my Father who sent me is the other."G1473G1510G3140G4012G1683G2532G3962G3992G3165G3140G4012G1700 19"Where is your father?" they asked. Jesus answered, "Since you don't know who I am, you don't know who my Father is. If you knew me, you would also know my Father."G3767G3004G846G4226G2076G4675G3962G2424G611G1492G3777G1492G1691G3777G3450G3962G1487G1492G1691G2532G1492G3450G3962G302 20Jesus made these statements while he was teaching in the section of the Temple known as the Treasury. But he was not arrested, because his timec had not yet come.G5023G4487G2980G2424G1722G1049G1321G1722G2411G2532G3762G4084G846G3754G846G5610G2064G3768G2064

The Unbelieving People Warned

21Later Jesus said to them again, "I am going away. You will search for me but will die in your sin. You cannot come where I am going."G3767G2036G2424G3825G846G1473G5217G2532G2212G3165G2532G599G1722G5216G266G3699G1473G5217G5210G3756G1410G2064 22The peoplec asked, "Is he planning to commit suicide? What does he mean, 'You cannot come where I am going'?"G3767G3004G2453G3385G615G1438G3754G3004G3699G1473G5217G5210G3756G1410G2064 23Jesus continued, "You are from below; I am from above. Jesus and Abraham

31Jesus said to the people who believed in him, "You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings.G3767G3004G2424G4314G2453G3588G4100G846G1437G5210G3306G1722G1699G3056G2075G3450G3101G230 32And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."G2532G1097G225G2532G225G1659G5209G1659 33"But we are descendants of Abraham," they said. "We have never been slaves to anyone. What do you mean, 'You will be set free'?"G611G846G2070G11G4690G2532G1398G4455G1398G3762G4459G3004G4771G3754G1096G1658 34Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin.G2424G611G846G281G281G3004G5213G3754G3956G4160G266G2076G1401G266 35A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son is part of the family forever.G1161G1401G3306G3756G1722G3614G1519G165G5207G3306G1519G165 36So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.G1437G5207G3767G1659G5209G1659G2071G1658G3689 37Yes, I realize that you are descendants of Abraham. And yet some of you are trying to kill me because there's no room in your hearts for my message.G1492G3754G2075G11G4690G235G2212G615G3165G3754G1699G3056G5562G3756G5562G1722G5213 38I am telling you what I saw when I was with my Father. But you are following the advice of your father."G1473G2980G3739G3708G3844G3450G3962G2532G5210G4160G3767G3739G3708G3844G5216G3962 39"Our father is Abraham!" they declared. "No," Jesus replied, "for if you were really the children of Abraham, you would follow his examplec.G611G2532G2036G846G11G2076G2257G3962G2424G3004G846G1487G2258G11G5043G4160G302G2041G11 40Instead, you are trying to kill me because I told you the truth, which I heard from God. Abraham never did such a thing.G1161G3568G2212G615G3165G444G3739G2980G5213G225G3739G191G3844G2316G5124G4160G3756G11 41No, you are imitating your real father." They replied, "We aren't illegitimate children! God himself is our true Father."G5210G4160G2041G5216G3962G3767G2036G846G2249G1080G3756G1080G1537G4202G2192G1520G3962G2316 42Jesus told them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, because I have come to you from God. I am not here on my own, but he sent me.G2424G3767G2036G846G1487G2316G2258G5216G3962G302G25G1691G1063G1473G1831G2532G2240G1537G2316G3761G1063G2064G575G1683G235G1565G649G3165 43Why can't you understand what I am saying? It's because you can't even hear me!G1302G1097G3756G1097G1699G2981G3754G3756G1410G191G1699G3056 44For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.G5210G2075G1537G3962G1228G2532G1939G5216G3962G2309G4160G1565G2258G443G575G746G2532G2476G3756G1722G225G3754G2076G3756G225G1722G846G3752G2980G5579G2980G1537G2398G3754G2076G5583G2532G3962G846 45So when I tell the truth, you just naturally don't believe me!G1161G3754G1473G3004G225G4100G3427G3756 46Which of you can truthfully accuse me of sin? And since I am telling you the truth, why don't you believe me?G5101G1537G5216G1651G3165G4012G266G1161G1487G3004G225G1302G4100G5210G3756G4100G3427 47Anyone who belongs to God listens gladly to the words of God. But you don't listen because you don't belong to God."G5607G1537G2316G191G2316G4487G5210G5124G1223G191G3756G3754G2075G3756G1537G2316 48The people retorted, "You Samaritan devil! Didn't we say all along that you were possessed by a demon?"G3767G611G2453G2532G2036G846G3004G2249G3756G2573G3754G4771G1488G4541G2532G2192G1140 49"No," Jesus said, "I have no demon in me. For I honor my Father—and you dishonor me.G2424G611G1473G2192G3756G1140G235G5091G3450G3962G2532G5210G818G3165 50And though I have no wish to glorify myself, God is going to glorify me. He is the true judge.G1161G1473G2212G3756G3450G1391G2076G2212G2532G2919 51I tell you the truth, anyone who obeys my teaching will never die!"G281G281G3004G5213G1437G5100G5083G1699G3056G2334G3364G1519G165G2334G2288 52The people said, "Now we know you are possessed by a demon. Even Abraham and the prophets died, but you say, 'Anyone who obeys my teaching will never die!'G3767G2036G2453G846G3568G1097G3754G2192G1140G11G599G2532G4396G2532G4771G3004G1437G5100G5083G3450G3056G1089G3364G1519G165G1089G2288 53Are you greater than our father Abraham? He died, and so did the prophets. Who do you think you are?"G3361G1488G4771G3187G2257G3962G11G3748G599G2532G4396G599G5101G4160G4771G4572 54Jesus answered, "If I want glory for myself, it doesn't count. But it is my Father who will glorify me. You say, 'He is our Godc,'G2424G611G1437G1473G1392G1683G3450G1391G2076G3762G2076G3450G3962G1392G3165G3739G5210G3004G3754G2076G5216G2316 55but you don't even know him. I know him. If I said otherwise, I would be as great a liar as you! But I do know him and obey him.G2532G1097G3756G1097G846G1161G1473G1492G846G2532G1437G2036G3754G1492G846G3756G2071G5583G3664G5216G235G1492G846G2532G5083G846G3056 56Your father Abraham rejoiced as he looked forward to my coming. He saw it and was glad."G5216G3962G11G21G2443G1492G1699G2250G2532G1492G2532G5463 57The people said, "You aren't even fifty years old. How can you say you have seen Abraham?c"G3767G2036G2453G4314G846G2192G3768G4004G2094G2532G3708G11 58Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, before Abraham was even born, I AM!c"G2424G2036G846G281G281G3004G5213G4250G11G1096G1473G1510 59At that point they picked up stones to throw at him. But Jesus was hidden from them and left the Temple.G3767G142G3037G2443G906G1909G846G1161G2424G2928G2532G1831G1537G2411G1330G1223G3319G846G2532G3779G3855

106Praise the Lord! Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.H1984H3050H3034H3068H2896H2617H5769 2Who can list the glorious miracles of the Lord? Who can ever praise him enough?H4448H1369H3068H8085H8416 3There is joy for those who deal justly with others and always do what is right.H835H8104H4941H6213H6666H6256 4Remember me, Lord, when you show favor to your people; come near and rescue me.H2142H3068H7522H5971H6485H3444 5Let me share in the prosperity of your chosen ones. Let me rejoice in the joy of your people; let me praise you with those who are your heritage.H7200H2896H972H8055H8057H1471H1984H5159 6Like our ancestors, we have sinned. We have done wrong! We have acted wickedly!H2398H1H5753H7561 7Our ancestors in Egypt were not impressed by the Lord’s miraculous deeds. They soon forgot his many acts of kindness to them. Instead, they rebelled against him at the Red Seac.H1H7919H6381H4714H2142H7230H2617H4784H3220H5488H3220 8Even so, he saved them—to defend the honor of his name and to demonstrate his mighty power.H3467H8034H1369H3045 9He commanded the Red Seac to dry up. He led Israel across the sea as if it were a desert.H1605H5488H3220H2717H3212H8415H4057 10So he rescued them from their enemies and redeemed them from their foes.H3467H3027H8130H1350H3027H341 11Then the water returned and covered their enemies; not one of them survived.H4325H3680H6862H259H3498 12Then his people believed his promises. Then they sang his praise.H539H1697H7891H8416 13Yet how quickly they forgot what he had done! They wouldn’t wait for his counsel!H4116H7911H4639H2442H6098 14In the wilderness their desires ran wild, testing God’s patience in that dry wasteland.H183H8378H4057H5254H410H3452 15So he gave them what they asked for, but he sent a plague along with it.H5414H7596H7971H7332H5315 16The people in the camp were jealous of Moses and envious of Aaron, the Lord’s holy priest.H7065H4872H4264H175H6918H3068 17Because of this, the earth opened up; it swallowed Dathan and buried Abiram and the other rebels.H776H6605H1104H1885H3680H5712H48 18Fire fell upon their followers; a flame consumed the wicked.H784H1197H5712H3852H3857H7563 19The people made a calf at Mount Sinaic; they bowed before an image made of gold.H6213H5695H2722H7812H4541 20They traded their glorious God for a statue of a grass-eating bull.H4171H3519H8403H7794H398H6212 21They forgot God, their savior, who had done such great things in Egypt—H7911H410H3467H6213H1419H4714 22such wonderful things in the land of Ham, such awesome deeds at the Red Sea.H6381H776H2526H3372H5488H3220 23So he declared he would destroy them. But Moses, his chosen one, stepped between the Lord and the people. He begged him to turn from his anger and not destroy them.H559H8045H3884H4872H972H5975H6440H6556H7725H2534H7843 24The people refused to enter the pleasant land, for they wouldn’t believe his promise to care for them.H3988H2532H776H539H1697 25Instead, they grumbled in their tents and refused to obey the Lord.H7279H168H8085H6963H3068 26Therefore, he solemnly swore that he would kill them in the wilderness,H5375H3027H5307H4057 27that he would scatter their descendants among the nations, exiling them to distant lands.H5307H2233H1471H2219H776 28Then our ancestors joined in the worship of Baal at Peor; they even ate sacrifices offered to the dead!H6775H1187H398H2077H4191 29They angered the Lord with all these things, so a plague broke out among them.H3707H4611H4046H6555 30But Phinehas had the courage to intervene, and the plague was stopped.H5975H6372H6419H4046H6113 31So he has been regarded as a righteous man ever since that time.H2803H6666H1755H1755H5704H5769 32At Meribah, too, they angered the Lord, causing Moses serious trouble.H7107H4325H4808H4809H3415H4872 33They made Moses angryc, and he spoke foolishly.H4784H7307H981H8193 34Israel failed to destroy the nations in the land, as the Lord had commanded them.H8045H5971H3068H559 35Instead, they mingled among the pagans and adopted their evil customs.H6148H1471H3925H4639 36They worshiped their idols, which led to their downfall.H5647H6091H4170 37They even sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the demons.H2076H1121H1323H7700 38They shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters. By sacrificing them to the idols of Canaan, they polluted the land with murder.H8210H5355H1818H1818H1121H1323H2076H6091H3667H776H2610H1818 39They defiled themselves by their evil deeds, and their love of idols was adultery in the Lord’s sight.H2930H4639H2181H4611 40That is why the Lord’s anger burned against his people, and he abhorred his own special possession.H639H3068H2734H5971H8581H5159 41He handed them over to pagan nations, and they were ruled by those who hated them.H5414H3027H1471H8130H4910 42Their enemies crushed them and brought them under their cruel power.H341H3905H3665H3027 43Again and again he rescued them, but they chose to rebel against him, and they were finally destroyed by their sin.H7227H6471H5337H4784H6098H4355H5771 44Even so, he pitied them in their distress and listened to their cries.H7200H6862H8085H7440 45He remembered his covenant with them and relented because of his unfailing love.H2142H1285H5162H7230H2617 46He even caused their captors to treat them with kindness.H5414H7356H6440H7617 47Save us, O Lord our God! Gather us back from among the nations, so we can thank your holy name and rejoice and praise you.H3467H3068H430H6908H1471H3034H6944H8034H7623H8416 48Praise the Lord, the God of Israel, who lives from everlasting to everlasting! Let all the people say, “Amen!” Praise the Lord!H1288H3068H430H3478H5769H5769H5971H559H543H1984H3050
