Paul Condemns Spiritual Pride

5I can hardly believe the report about the sexual immorality going on among you—something that even pagans don't do. I am told that a man in your church is living in sin with his stepmotherc.G191G3654G4202G1722G5213G2532G5108G4202G3748G3687G3761G3687G1722G1484G5620G5100G2192G3962G1135 2You are so proud of yourselves, but you should be mourning in sorrow and shame. And you should remove this man from your fellowship.G2532G5210G2075G5448G2532G3996G3780G3123G3996G2443G4160G5124G2041G1808G1537G3319G5216 3Even though I am not with you in person, I am with you in the Spiritc. And as though I were there, I have already passed judgment on this manG1063G1473G3303G5613G548G4983G1161G3918G4151G2919G2235G5613G3918G2716G3779G2716G5124 4in the name of the Lord Jesus. You must call a meeting of the churchc. I will be present with you in spirit, and so will the power of our Lord Jesus.G1722G3686G2257G2962G2424G5547G5216G4863G2532G1699G4151G4862G1411G2257G2962G2424G5547 5Then you must throw this man out and hand him over to Satan so that his sinful nature will be destroyedc and he himself will be saved on the day the Lord returns.G3860G5108G4567G1519G3639G4561G2443G4151G4982G1722G2250G2962G2424 6Your boasting about this is terrible. Don't you realize that this sin is like a little yeast that spreads through the whole batch of dough?G5216G2745G3756G2570G1492G3756G3754G3398G2219G2220G3650G5445 7Get rid of the old "yeast" by removing this wicked person from among you. Then you will be like a fresh batch of dough made without yeast, which is what you really are. Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed for usc.G1571G3767G3820G2219G2443G5600G3501G5445G2531G2075G106G1063G2532G5547G2257G3957G2380G5228G2257 8So let us celebrate the festival, not with the old breadc of wickedness and evil, but with the new bread of sincerity and truth.G5620G1858G3361G1722G3820G2219G3366G1722G2219G2549G2532G4189G235G1722G106G1505G2532G225 9When I wrote to you before, I told you not to associate with people who indulge in sexual sin.G1125G5213G1722G1992G3361G4874G4205 10But I wasn't talking about unbelievers who indulge in sexual sin, or are greedy, or cheat people, or worship idols. You would have to leave this world to avoid people like that.G2532G3756G3843G4205G5127G2889G2228G4123G2228G727G2228G1496G1893G686G3784G1831G1537G2889 11I meant that you are not to associate with anyone who claims to be a believerc yet indulges in sexual sin, or is greedy, or worships idols, or is abusive, or is a drunkard, or cheats people. Don't even eat with such people.G1161G3570G1125G5213G3361G4874G1437G5100G3687G80G2228G4205G2228G4123G2228G1496G2228G3060G2228G3183G2228G727G5108G3366G4906 12It isn't my responsibility to judge outsiders, but it certainly is your responsibility to judge those inside the church who are sinning.G1063G5101G3427G2919G2532G1854G2919G3780G5210G2919G2080 13God will judge those on the outside; but as the Scriptures say, "You must remove the evil person from among you."cG1161G1854G2316G2919G2532G1808G1537G5216G846G4190

Avoiding Lawsuits with Christians

6When one of you has a dispute with another believer, how dare you file a lawsuit and ask a secular court to decide the matter instead of taking it to other believersc!G5111G5100G5216G2192G4229G4314G2087G2919G1909G94G2532G3780G1909G40 2Don't you realize that someday we believers will judge the world? And since you are going to judge the world, can't you decide even these little things among yourselves?G1492G3756G1492G3754G40G2919G2889G2532G1487G2889G2919G1722G5213G2075G370G2922G1646 3Don't you realize that we will judge angels? So you should surely be able to resolve ordinary disputes in this life.G1492G3756G3754G2919G32G3386G1065G982 4If you have legal disputes about such matters, why go to outside judges who are not respected by the church?G1437G3303G3767G2192G2922G982G2523G5128G1848G1722G1577 5I am saying this to shame you. Isn't there anyone in all the church who is wise enough to decide these issues?G3004G4314G5213G1791G3779G2076G3756G4680G1722G5213G3761G1520G3739G1410G1252G303G3319G846G80 6But instead, one believerc sues another—right in front of unbelievers!G235G80G2919G3326G80G2532G5124G1909G571 7Even to have such lawsuits with one another is a defeat for you. Why not just accept the injustice and leave it at that? Why not let yourselves be cheated?G2235G3303G3767G2076G3654G2275G1722G5213G3754G2192G2917G3326G1438G1302G91G3780G3123G91G1302G650G3780G3123G650 8Instead, you yourselves are the ones who do wrong and cheat even your fellow believersc.G235G5210G91G2532G650G2532G5023G80 9Don't you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don't fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality,G2228G1492G3756G3754G94G2816G3756G2816G932G2316G4105G3361G4105G3777G4205G3777G1496G3777G3432G3777G3120G3777G733 10or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God.G3777G2812G3777G4123G3777G3183G3756G3060G3756G727G3756G2816G932G2316 11Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.G2532G5023G2258G5100G235G628G235G37G235G1344G1722G3686G2962G2424G2532G1722G4151G2257G2316

Avoiding Sexual Sin

12You say, "I am allowed to do anything"—but not everything is good for you. And even though "I am allowed to do anything," I must not become a slave to anything.G3956G1832G3427G235G3956G4851G3756G4851G3956G1832G3427G235G1473G1850G3756G1850G5259G5100 13You say, "Food was made for the stomach, and the stomach for food." (This is true, though someday God will do away with both of them.) But you can't say that our bodies were made for sexual immorality. They were made for the Lord, and the Lord cares about our bodies.G1033G2836G2532G2836G1033G1161G2316G2673G2532G5026G2532G5023G1161G4983G3756G4202G235G2962G2532G2962G4983 14And God will raise us from the dead by his power, just as he raised our Lord from the dead.G1161G2316G1453G2532G1453G2962G2532G1825G2532G1825G2248G1223G846G1411 15Don't you realize that your bodies are actually parts of Christ? Should a man take his body, which is part of Christ, and join it to a prostitute? Never!G1492G3756G3754G5216G4983G2076G3196G5547G142G3767G142G3196G5547G4160G3196G4204G3361G1096 16And don't you realize that if a man joins himself to a prostitute, he becomes one body with her? For the Scriptures say, "The two are united into one."cG2228G1492G3756G3754G2853G4204G2076G1520G4983G1063G1417G5346G2071G1519G3391G4561 17But the person who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him.G1161G2853G2962G2076G1520G4151 18Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body.G5343G4202G3956G265G3739G1437G444G4160G2076G1622G4983G1161G4203G264G1519G2398G4983 19Don't you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself,G2228G1492G3756G3754G5216G4983G2076G3485G40G4151G1722G5213G3739G2192G575G2316G2532G2075G3756G1438 20for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.G1063G59G5092G1211G1392G2316G1722G5216G4983G2532G1722G5216G4151G3748G2076G2316

143[A psalm of David.] Hear my prayer, O Lord; listen to my plea! I ponder all your great works and think about what you have done.H2142H3117H6924H1897H6467H7878H4639H3027 6I lift my hands to you in prayer. I thirst for you as parched land thirsts for rain. InterludeH6566H3027H5315H5889H776H5542 7Come quickly, Lord, and answer me, for my depression deepens. Don’t turn away from me, or I will die.H6030H4118H3068H7307H3615H5641H6440H4911H3381H953 8Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you. May your gracious Spirit lead me forward on a firm footing.H3925H6213H7522H430H7307H2896H5148H776H4334 11For the glory of your name, O Lord, preserve my life. Because of your faithfulness, bring me out of this distress.H2421H3068H8034H6666H3318H5315H6869 12In your unfailing love, silence all my enemies and destroy all my foes, for I am your servant.H2617H6789H341H6H6887H5315H5650
