11And you should imitate me, just as I imitate Christ.G1096G3402G3450G2531G2504G5547

Instructions for Public Worship

2I am so glad that you always keep me in your thoughts, and that you are following the teachings I passed on to you.G1161G1867G5209G80G3754G3415G3450G3956G2532G2722G3862G2531G3860G5213
3But there is one thing I want you to know: The head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.cG1161G2309G5209G1492G3754G2776G3956G435G2076G5547G1161G2776G1135G435G1161G2776G5547G2316
4A man dishonors his headc if he covers his head while praying or prophesying.G3956G435G4336G2228G4395G2192G2776G2596G2617G846G2776
5But a woman dishonors her headc if she prays or prophesies without a covering on her head, for this is the same as shaving her head.G1161G3956G1135G4336G2228G4395G2776G177G2617G1438G2776G1063G2076G2532G1520G846G3587
6Yes, if she refuses to wear a head covering, she should cut off all her hair! But since it is shameful for a woman to have her hair cut or her head shaved, she should wear a coveringc.G1063G1487G1135G2619G3756G2619G2751G2532G2751G1161G1487G149G1135G2751G2228G3587G2619
7A man should not wear anything on his head when worshiping, for man is made in God's image and reflects God's glory. And woman reflects man's glory.G1063G435G3303G3784G3756G2619G2776G5225G1504G2532G1391G2316G1161G1135G2076G1391G435
8For the first man didn't come from woman, but the first woman came from man.G1063G435G2076G3756G1537G1135G235G1135G1537G435
9And man was not made for woman, but woman was made for man.G1063G2532G3756G2936G435G2936G1223G1135G235G1135G1223G435
10For this reason, and because the angels are watching, a woman should wear a covering on her head to show she is under authorityc.G5124G1223G3784G1135G2192G1849G1909G2776G1223G32
11But among the Lord's people, women are not independent of men, and men are not independent of women.G4133G3777G435G5565G1135G3777G1135G5565G435G1722G2962
12For although the first woman came from man, every other man was born from a woman, and everything comes from God.G1063G5618G1135G1537G435G3779G435G2532G1223G1135G1161G3956G1537G2316
13Judge for yourselves. Is it right for a woman to pray to God in public without covering her head?G2919G1722G5213G846G2076G4241G1135G4336G2316G177
14Isn't it obvious that it's disgraceful for a man to have long hair?G2228G3761G5449G846G1321G5209G3754G1437G3303G435G2863G2076G819G846
15And isn't long hair a woman's pride and joy? For it has been given to her as a covering.G1161G1437G1135G2863G2076G1391G846G3754G2864G1325G846G473G4018
16But if anyone wants to argue about this, I simply say that we have no other custom than this, and neither do God's other churches.G1161G1536G1380G1511G5380G2249G2192G3756G5108G4914G3761G1577G2316

Order at the Lord’s Supper

17But in the following instructions, I cannot praise you. For it sounds as if more harm than good is done when you meet together.G1161G5124G3853G1867G3756G3754G4905G3756G1519G2909G235G1519G2276
18First, I hear that there are divisions among you when you meet as a church, and to some extent I believe it.G1063G3303G4412G5216G4905G1722G1577G191G5225G4978G1722G5213G2532G3313G4100G5100
19But, of course, there must be divisions among you so that you who have God's approval will be recognized!G1063G1163G1511G2532G139G1722G5213G2443G1384G1096G5318G1722G5213
20When you meet together, you are not really interested in the Lord's Supper.G5216G4905G3767G1909G846G2076G3756G5315G2960G1173
21For some of you hurry to eat your own meal without sharing with others. As a result, some go hungry while others get drunk.G1063G1722G5315G1538G4301G2398G1173G2532G3739G3303G3983G1161G3739G3184
22What? Don't you have your own homes for eating and drinking? Or do you really want to disgrace God's church and shame the poor? What am I supposed to say? Do you want me to praise you? Well, I certainly will not praise you for this!G1063G2192G3378G3614G2068G2532G4095G1519G2228G2706G1577G2316G2532G2617G2192G3361G5101G2036G5213G1867G5209G1722G5129G1867G3756
23For I pass on to you what I received from the Lord himself. On the night when he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some breadG1063G1473G3880G575G2962G3739G2532G3860G5213G3754G2962G2424G3571G1722G3739G3860G2983G740
24and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and said, "This is my body, which is given for youc. Do this to remember me."G2532G2168G2806G2532G2036G2983G5315G5124G2076G3450G4983G3588G2806G5228G5216G5124G4160G1519G364G1699
25In the same way, he took the cup of wine after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood. Do this to remember me as often as you drink it."G5615G2532G4221G3326G1172G3004G5124G4221G2076G2537G1242G1722G1699G129G5124G4160G3740G302G4095G1519G364G1699
26For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are announcing the Lord's death until he comes again.G1063G302G3740G2068G5126G740G2532G4095G5124G4221G2605G2962G2288G891G302G3739G2064
27So anyone who eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord unworthily is guilty of sinning againstc the body and blood of the Lord.G5620G3739G302G2068G5126G740G2228G4095G4221G2962G371G2071G1777G4983G2532G129G2962
28That is why you should examine yourself before eating the bread and drinking the cup.G1161G1381G444G1381G1438G2532G3779G2068G1537G740G2532G4095G1537G4221
29For if you eat the bread or drink the cup without honoring the body of Christc, you are eating and drinking God's judgment upon yourself.G1063G2068G2532G4095G371G2068G2532G4095G2917G1438G3361G1252G2962G4983
30That is why many of you are weak and sick and some have even died.G1223G5124G1223G4183G772G2532G732G1722G5213G2532G2425G2837
31But if we would examine ourselves, we would not be judged by God in this way.G1063G1487G1252G1438G302G3756G2919
32Yet when we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned along with the world.G1161G2919G3811G5259G2962G3363G2632G3363G2632G4862G2889
33So, my dear brothers and sistersc, when you gather for the Lord's Supper, wait for each other.G5620G3450G80G4905G1519G5315G1551G240
34If you are really hungry, eat at home so you won't bring judgment upon yourselves when you meet together. I'll give you instructions about the other matters after I arrive.G1161G1536G3983G2068G1722G3624G3363G4905G3363G4905G1519G2917G1161G3062G1299G5613G302G2064

Spiritual Gifts

12Now, dear brothers and sistersc, regarding your question about the special abilities the Spirit gives us. I don't want you to misunderstand this.G1161G4012G4152G80G2309G3756G2309G5209G50 2You know that when you were still pagans, you were led astray and swept along in worshiping speechless idols.G1492G3754G2258G1484G520G4314G880G1497G5613G302G71 3So I want you to know that no one speaking by the Spirit of God will curse Jesus, and no one can say Jesus is Lord, except by the Holy Spirit.G1352G1107G5213G1107G3754G3762G2980G1722G4151G2316G3004G2424G331G2532G3762G1410G2036G2424G2962G1508G1722G40G4151 4There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all.G1161G1526G1243G5486G1161G846G4151 5There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord.G2532G1526G1243G1248G2532G846G2962 6God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us.G2532G1526G1243G1755G1161G2076G846G2316G3588G1754G3956G1722G3956 7A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.G1161G5321G4151G1325G1538G4314G4851 8To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advicec; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge.G1063G3739G3303G1325G1223G4151G3056G4678G1161G243G3056G1108G2596G846G4151 9The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing.G1161G2087G4102G1722G846G4151G1161G243G5486G2386G1722G846G4151 10He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languagesc, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said.G1161G243G1755G1411G1161G243G4394G1161G243G1253G4151G1161G2087G1085G1100G1161G243G2058G1100 11It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.G1161G3956G5023G1754G1520G2532G846G4151G1244G1538G2398G2531G1014

One Body with Many Parts

12The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ.G1063G2509G4983G2076G1520G2532G2192G4183G3196G1161G3956G3196G1520G4983G5607G4183G2076G1520G4983G3779G2532G5547 13Some of us are Jews, some are Gentilesc, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit.G1063G2532G1722G1520G4151G907G2249G3956G907G1519G1520G4983G1535G2453G1535G1672G1535G1401G1535G1658G2532G4222G3956G4222G1519G1520G4151 14Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part.G2532G1063G4983G2076G3756G1520G3196G235G4183 15If the foot says, "I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand," that does not make it any less a part of the body.G1437G4228G2036G3754G1510G3756G5495G1510G3756G1537G4983G2076G3756G3844G5124G3756G1537G4983 16And if the ear says, "I am not part of the body because I am not an eye," would that make it any less a part of the body?G2532G1437G3775G2036G3754G1510G3756G3788G1510G3756G1537G4983G2076G3756G3844G5124G3756G1537G4983 17If the whole body were an eye, how would you hear? Or if your whole body were an ear, how would you smell anything?G1487G3650G4983G3788G4226G189G1487G3650G189G4226G3750 18But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it.G1161G3570G5087G2316G5087G3196G1538G1520G846G1722G4983G2531G2309 19How strange a body would be if it had only one part!G1161G1487G2258G3956G1520G3196G4226G4983 20Yes, there are many parts, but only one body.G1161G3568G3303G4183G3196G1161G1520G4983 21The eye can never say to the hand, "I don't need you." The head can't say to the feet, "I don't need you."G1161G3788G3756G1410G2036G5495G2192G3756G5532G4675G2228G3825G2776G4228G2192G3756G5532G5216 22In fact, some parts of the body that seem weakest and least important are actually the most necessary.G235G4183G3123G3196G4983G1380G5225G772G2076G316 23And the parts we regard as less honorable are those we clothe with the greatest care. So we carefully protect those parts that should not be seen,G2532G3739G4983G1380G1511G820G5125G4060G4055G5092G2532G2257G809G2192G4055G2157 24while the more honorable parts do not require this special care. So God has put the body together such that extra honor and care are given to those parts that have less dignity.G1161G2257G2158G2192G3756G5532G235G2316G4786G4983G4786G1325G4055G5092G5302 25This makes for harmony among the members, so that all the members care for each other.G3363G5600G3363G4978G1722G4983G235G3196G3309G846G3309G5228G240 26If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad.G2532G1535G1520G3196G3958G3956G3196G4841G1535G1520G3196G1392G3956G3196G4796 27All of you together are Christ's body, and each of you is a part of it.G1161G5210G2075G4983G5547G2532G3196G1537G3313 28Here are some of the parts God has appointed for the church: first are apostles, second are prophets, third are teachers, then those who do miracles, those who have the gift of healing, those who can help others, those who have the gift of leadership, those who speak in unknown languages.G2532G3739G2316G5087G3303G1722G1577G4412G652G1208G4396G5154G1320G1899G1411G1534G5486G2386G484G2941G1085G1100 29Are we all apostles? Are we all prophets? Are we all teachers? Do we all have the power to do miracles?G3361G3956G652G3361G3956G4396G3361G3956G1320G3361G3956G1411 30Do we all have the gift of healing? Do we all have the ability to speak in unknown languages? Do we all have the ability to interpret unknown languages? Of course not!G3361G2192G3956G5486G2386G3956G3361G2980G1100G3361G3956G1329 31So you should earnestly desire the most helpful gifts. But now let me show you a way of life that is best of all.G1161G2206G2909G5486G2532G2089G1166G5213G2596G5236G3598
