One Story That Leads to Jesus, Day 336 Help Icon

Jesus Is Greater Than Moses

3And so, dear brothers and sisters who belong to God andc are partners with those called to heaven, think carefully about this Jesus whom we declare to be God's messenger and High Priest.G3606G40G80G3353G2032G2821G2657G652G2532G749G2257G3671G5547G2424 2For he was faithful to God, who appointed him, just as Moses served faithfully when he was entrusted with God's entirec house.G5607G4103G4160G846G5613G2532G3475G1722G3650G846G3624 3But Jesus deserves far more glory than Moses, just as a person who builds a house deserves more praise than the house itself.G1063G3778G515G4119G1391G3844G3475G2596G3745G2680G3624G4119G5092G2192G846 4For every house has a builder, but the one who built everything is God.G1063G3956G3624G2680G5259G5100G1161G2680G3956G2316 5Moses was certainly faithful in God's house as a servant. His work was an illustration of the truths God would reveal later.G2532G3475G3303G4103G1722G3650G846G3624G5613G2324G1519G3142G2980 6But Christ, as the Son, is in charge of God's entire house. And we are God's house, if we keep our courage and remain confident in our hope in Christc.G1161G5547G5613G5207G1909G846G3624G3739G3624G2070G2249G1437G4007G2722G3954G2532G2745G1680G949G3360G5056 7That is why the Holy Spirit says, "Today when you hear his voice,G1352G2531G40G4151G3004G4594G1437G191G846G5456 8don't harden your hearts as Israel did when they rebelled, when they tested me in the wilderness.G4645G3361G5216G2588G5613G1722G3894G2596G2250G3986G1722G2048 9There your ancestors tested and tried my patience, even though they saw my miracles for forty years.G3757G5216G3962G3985G3165G1381G3165G2532G1492G3450G2041G5062G2094 10So I was angry with them, and I said, 'Their hearts always turn away from me. They refuse to do what I tell them.'G1352G4360G1565G1074G2532G2036G4105G104G4105G2588G1161G846G1097G3756G1097G3450G3598 11So in my anger I took an oath: 'They will never enter my place of rest.'"cG5613G3660G1722G3450G3709G1525G1487G1525G1519G3450G2663 12Be careful then, dear brothers and sistersc. Make sure that your own hearts are not evil and unbelieving, turning you away from the living God.G991G80G3379G2071G1722G5100G5216G4190G2588G570G1722G868G575G2198G2316 13You must warn each other every day, while it is still "today," so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God.G235G3870G1438G2596G1538G2250G891G3739G2564G4594G3363G5100G1537G5216G4645G539G266 14For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly as when we first believed, we will share in all that belongs to Christ.G1063G1096G3353G5547G1437G4007G2722G746G5287G949G3360G5056 15Remember what it says: "Today when you hear his voice, don't harden your hearts as Israel did when they rebelled."cG1722G3004G4594G1437G191G846G5456G4645G3361G5216G2588G5613G1722G3894 16And who was it who rebelled against God, even though they heard his voice? Wasn't it the people Moses led out of Egypt?G1063G5100G191G3893G235G3756G3956G1831G1537G125G1223G3475 17And who made God angry for forty years? Wasn't it the people who sinned, whose corpses lay in the wilderness?G1161G5101G4360G5062G2094G3780G264G3739G2966G4098G1722G2048 18And to whom was God speaking when he took an oath that they would never enter his rest? Wasn't it the people who disobeyed him?G1161G5101G3660G1525G3361G1525G1519G846G2663G1508G544 19So we see that because of their unbelief they were not able to enter his rest.G2532G991G3754G1410G3756G1525G1223G570

Promised Rest for God’s People

4God's promise of entering his rest still stands, so we ought to tremble with fear that some of you might fail to experience it.G5399G3767G5399G3379G1860G2641G1525G1519G846G2663G5100G1537G5216G1380G5302 2For this good news—that God has prepared this rest—has been announced to us just as it was to them. But it did them no good because they didn't share the faith of those who listened to Godc.G2532G1063G2070G2097G2509G2548G235G3056G189G5623G3756G5623G1565G3361G4786G4102G191 3For only we who believe can enter his rest. As for the others, God said, "In my anger I took an oath: 'They will never enter my place of rest,'"c even though this rest has been ready since he made the world.G1063G3588G4100G1525G1519G2663G2531G2046G5613G3660G1722G3450G3709G1487G1525G1519G3450G2663G2543G2041G1096G575G2602G2889 4We know it is ready because of the place in the Scriptures where it mentions the seventh day: "On the seventh day God rested from all his work."cG1063G2046G4225G4012G1442G3779G2532G2316G2664G1722G1442G2250G575G3956G846G2041 5But in the other passage God said, "They will never enter my place of rest."cG2532G1722G5129G3825G1487G1525G1519G3450G2663 6So God's rest is there for people to enter, but those who first heard this good news failed to enter because they disobeyed God.G1893G3767G620G5100G1525G1519G846G2532G4386G2097G1525G3756G1525G1223G543 7So God set another time for entering his rest, and that time is today. God announced this through David much later in the words already quoted: "Today when you hear his voice, don't harden your hearts."cG3825G3724G5100G2250G3004G1722G1138G4594G3326G5118G5550G2531G2046G4594G1437G191G846G5456G4645G3361G5216G2588 8Now if Joshua had succeeded in giving them this rest, God would not have spoken about another day of rest still to come.G1063G1487G2424G2664G846G2664G302G3756G3326G5023G2980G4012G243G2250 9So there is a special restc still waiting for the people of God.G620G686G4520G2992G2316 10For all who have entered into God's rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world.G1063G1525G1519G846G2663G846G2532G2664G575G846G2041G5618G2316G575G2398 11So let us do our best to enter that rest. But if we disobey God, as the people of Israel did, we will fall.G4704G3767G1525G1519G1565G2663G3363G5100G4098G1722G846G5262G543 12For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.G1063G3056G2316G2198G2532G1756G2532G5114G5228G3956G1366G3162G1338G891G3311G5590G5037G2532G4151G5037G2532G719G2532G3452G2532G2924G1761G2532G1771G2588 13Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.G2532G3756G2076G2937G852G846G1799G1161G3956G1131G2532G5136G3788G846G4314G3739G2254G3056

Christ Is Our High Priest

14So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe.G2192G3767G2192G3173G749G1330G3772G2424G5207G2316G2902G3671 15This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin.G1063G2192G3756G749G3361G1410G4834G2257G769G1161G3985G2596G3956G3985G3987G2596G3665G5565G266 16So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.G4334G3767G4334G3326G3954G2362G5485G2443G2983G1656G2532G2147G5485G996G1519G2121

26[A psalm of David.] Declare me innocent, O LORD, for I have acted with integrity; I have trusted in the LORD without wavering.H1732H8199H3068H1980H8537H982H3068H4571 2Put me on trial, LORD, and cross-examine me. Test my motives and my heart.H974H3068H5254H6884H3629H3820 3For I am always aware of your unfailing love, and I have lived according to your truth.H2617H5869H1980H571 4I do not spend time with liars or go along with hypocrites.H3427H7723H4962H935H5956 5I hate the gatherings of those who do evil, and I refuse to join in with the wicked.H8130H6951H7489H3427H7563 6I wash my hands to declare my innocence. I come to your altar, O LORD,H7364H3709H5356H5437H4196H3068 7singing a song of thanksgiving and telling of all your wonders.H8085H6963H8426H5608H6381 8I love your sanctuary, LORD, the place where your glorious presence dwells.H3068H157H4583H1004H4725H3519H4908 9Don't let me suffer the fate of sinners. Don't condemn me along with murderers.H622H5315H2400H2416H1818H582 10Their hands are dirty with evil schemes, and they constantly take bribes.H3027H2154H3225H4390H7810 11But I am not like that; I live with integrity. So redeem me and show me mercy.H3212H8537H6299H2603 12Now I stand on solid ground, and I will publicly praise the LORD.H7272H5975H4334H4721H1288H3068
