Holiness in Personal Conduct

19The LORD also said to Moses,H3068H1696H4872H559 2"Give the following instructions to the entire community of Israel. You must be holy because I, the LORD your God, am holy.H1696H5712H1121H3478H559H6918H3068H430H6918 3"Each of you must show great respect for your mother and father, and you must always observe my Sabbath days of rest. I am the LORD your God.H3372H376H517H1H8104H7676H3068H430 4"Do not put your trust in idols or make metal images of gods for yourselves. I am the LORD your God.H6437H457H6213H4541H430H3068H430 5"When you sacrifice a peace offering to the LORD, offer it properly so youc will be accepted by God.H2076H2077H8002H3068H2076H7522 6The sacrifice must be eaten on the same day you offer it or on the next day. Whatever is left over until the third day must be completely burned up.H398H3117H2077H4283H3498H7992H3117H8313H784 7If any of the sacrifice is eaten on the third day, it will be contaminated, and I will not accept it.H398H398H7992H3117H6292H7521 8Anyone who eats it on the third day will be punished for defiling what is holy to the LORD and will be cut off from the community.H398H5375H5771H2490H6944H3068H5315H3772H5971 9"When you harvest the crops of your land, do not harvest the grain along the edges of your fields, and do not pick up what the harvesters drop.H7114H7105H776H3615H6285H7704H3950H3951H7105 10It is the same with your grape crop—do not strip every last bunch of grapes from the vines, and do not pick up the grapes that fall to the ground. Leave them for the poor and the foreigners living among you. I am the LORD your God.H5953H3754H3950H6528H3754H5800H6041H1616H3068H430 11"Do not steal. "Do not deceive or cheat one another.H1589H3584H8266H376H5997 12"Do not bring shame on the name of your God by using it to swear falsely. I am the LORD.H7650H8034H8267H2490H8034H430H3068 13"Do not defraud or rob your neighbor. "Do not make your hired workers wait until the next day to receive their pay.H6231H7453H1497H6468H7916H3885H1242 14"Do not insult the deaf or cause the blind to stumble. You must fear your God; I am the LORD.H7043H2795H5414H4383H6440H5787H3372H430H3068 15"Do not twist justice in legal matters by favoring the poor or being partial to the rich and powerful. Always judge people fairly.H6213H5766H4941H5375H6440H1800H1921H6440H1419H6664H8199H5997 16"Do not spread slanderous gossip among your peoplec. "Do not stand idly by when your neighbor's life is threatened. I am the LORD.H3212H7400H5971H5975H1818H7453H3068 17"Do not nurse hatred in your heart for any of your relativesc. Confront people directly so you will not be held guilty for their sin.H8130H251H3824H3198H3198H5997H5375H2399 18"Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against a fellow Israelite, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD.H5358H5201H1121H5971H157H7453H3644H3068 19"You must obey all my decrees. "Do not mate two different kinds of animals. Do not plant your field with two different kinds of seed. Do not wear clothing woven from two different kinds of thread.H8104H2708H929H7250H3610H2232H7704H3610H899H3610H8162H5927 20"If a man has sex with a slave girl whose freedom has never been purchased but who is committed to become another man's wife, he must pay full compensation to her master. But since she is not a free woman, neither the man nor the woman will be put to death.H376H7901H2233H7902H802H8198H2778H376H6299H6299H2668H5414H1244H4191H2666 21The man, however, must bring a ram as a guilt offering and present it to the LORD at the entrance of the Tabernaclec.H935H817H3068H6607H168H4150H352H817 22The priest will then purify himc before the LORD with the ram of the guilt offering, and the man's sin will be forgiven.H3548H3722H352H817H6440H3068H2403H2398H2403H2398H5545 23"When you enter the land and plant fruit trees, leave the fruit unharvested for the first three years and consider it forbiddenc. Do not eat it.H935H776H5193H6086H3978H6188H6529H6188H6190H7969H8141H6189H398 24In the fourth year the entire crop must be consecrated to the LORD as a celebration of praise.H7243H8141H6529H6944H1974H3068 25Finally, in the fifth year you may eat the fruit. If you follow this pattern, your harvest will increase. I am the LORD your God.H2549H8141H398H6529H3254H8393H3068H430 26"Do not eat meat that has not been drained of its blood. "Do not practice fortune-telling or witchcraft.H398H1818H5172H6049 27"Do not trim off the hair on your temples or trim your beards.H5362H6285H7218H7843H6285H2206 28"Do not cut your bodies for the dead, and do not mark your skin with tattoos. I am the LORD.H5414H3793H8296H1320H5315H5414H7085H3068 29"Do not defile your daughter by making her a prostitute, or the land will be filled with prostitution and wickedness.H2490H1323H2181H776H2181H776H4390H2154 30"Keep my Sabbath days of rest, and show reverence toward my sanctuary. I am the LORD.H8104H7676H3372H4720H3068 31"Do not defile yourselves by turning to mediums or to those who consult the spirits of the dead. Remember that you were once foreigners living in the land of Egypt. I am the LORD your God.H1616H1481H249H157H1616H776H4714H3068H430 35"Do not use dishonest standards when measuring length, weight, or volume.H6213H5766H4941H4060H4948H4884 36Your scales and weights must be accurate. I am the LORD your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt.H6664H3976H6664H68H6664H374H6664H1969H3068H430H3318H776H4714 37"You must be careful to keep all of my decrees and regulations by putting them into practice. I am the LORD."H8104H2708H4941H6213H3068

Punishments for Disobedience

20The LORD said to Moses,H3068H1696H4872H559 2"Give the people of Israel these instructions, which apply both to native Israelites and to the foreigners living in Israel. "If any of them offer their children as a sacrifice to Molech, they must be put to death. The people of the community must stone them to death.H559H1121H3478H376H1121H3478H1616H1481H3478H5414H2233H4432H4191H4191H5971H776H7275H68 3I myself will turn against them and cut them off from the community, because they have defiled my sanctuary and brought shame on my holy name by offering their children to Molech.H5414H6440H376H3772H7130H5971H5414H2233H4432H2930H4720H2490H6944H8034 4And if the people of the community ignore those who offer their children to Molech and refuse to execute them,H5971H776H5956H5956H5869H376H5414H2233H4432H4191H1115 5I myself will turn against them and their families and will cut them off from the community. This will happen to all who commit spiritual prostitution by worshiping Molech.H7760H6440H376H4940H3772H2181H310H2181H4432H7130H5971 6"I will also turn against those who commit spiritual prostitution by putting their trust in mediums or in those who consult the spirits of the dead. I will cut them off from the community.H5315H6437H413H178H310H3049H2181H310H5414H6440H5315H3772H7130H5971 7So set yourselves apart to be holy, for I am the LORD your God.H6942H6918H3068H430 8Keep all my decrees by putting them into practice, for I am the LORD who makes you holy.H8104H2708H6213H3068H6942 9"Anyone who dishonorsc father or mother must be put to death. Such a person is guilty of a capital offense.H376H376H7043H1H517H4191H4191H7043H1H517H1818 10"If a man commits adultery with his neighbor's wife, both the man and the woman who have committed adultery must be put to death.H376H5003H376H802H5003H7453H802H5003H5003H4191H4191 11"If a man violates his father by having sex with one of his father's wives, both the man and the woman must be put to death, for they are guilty of a capital offense.H376H7901H1H802H1540H1H6172H8147H4191H4191H1818 12"If a man has sex with his daughter-in-law, both must be put to death. They have committed a perverse act and are guilty of a capital offense.H376H7901H3618H8147H4191H4191H6213H8397H1818 13"If a man practices homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman, both men have committed a detestable act. They must both be put to death, for they are guilty of a capital offense.H376H7901H2145H4904H802H8147H6213H8441H4191H4191H1818 14"If a man marries both a woman and her mother, he has committed a wicked act. The man and both women must be burned to death to wipe out such wickedness from among you.H376H3947H802H517H2154H8313H784H2154H8432 15"If a man has sex with an animal, he must be put to death, and the animal must be killed.H376H5414H7903H929H4191H4191H2026H929 16"If a woman presents herself to a male animal to have intercourse with it, she and the animal must both be put to death. You must kill both, for they are guilty of a capital offense.H802H7126H929H7250H2026H802H929H4191H4191H1818 17"If a man marries his sister, the daughter of either his father or his mother, and they have sexual relations, it is a shameful disgrace. They must be publicly cut off from the community. Since the man has violated his sister, he will be punished for his sin.H376H3947H269H1H1323H176H517H1323H7200H6172H7200H6172H2617H3772H5869H5971H1121H1540H269H6172H5375H5771 18"If a man has sexual relations with a woman during her menstrual period, both of them must be cut off from the community, for together they have exposed the source of her blood flow.H376H7901H802H1739H1540H6172H6168H4726H1540H4726H1818H8147H3772H7130H5971 19"Do not have sexual relations with your aunt, whether your mother's sister or your father's sister. This would dishonor a close relative. Both parties are guilty and will be punished for their sin.H1540H6172H517H269H1H269H6168H7607H5375H5771 20If a man has sex with his uncle's wife, he has violated his uncle. Both the man and woman will be punished for their sin, and they will die childless.H376H7901H1733H1540H1730H6172H5375H2399H4191H6185 21"If a man marries his brother's wife, it is an act of impurity. He has violated his brother, and the guilty couple will remain childless.H376H3947H251H802H5079H1540H251H6172H6185 22"You must keep all my decrees and regulations by putting them into practice; otherwise the land to which I am bringing you as your new home will vomit you out.H8104H2708H4941H6213H776H935H3427H6958 23Do not live according to the customs of the people I am driving out before you. It is because they do these shameful things that I detest them.H3212H2708H1471H7971H6440H6213H6973 24But I have promised you, 'You will possess their land because I will give it to you as your possession—a land flowing with milk and honey.' I am the LORD your God, who has set you apart from all other people.H559H3423H127H5414H3423H776H2100H2461H1706H3068H430H914H5971 25"You must therefore make a distinction between ceremonially clean and unclean animals, and between clean and unclean birds. You must not defile yourselves by eating any unclean animal or bird or creature that scurries along the ground. I have identified them as being unclean for you.H914H2889H929H2931H2931H5775H2889H5315H8262H929H5775H7430H127H914H2930 26You must be holy because I, the LORD, am holy. I have set you apart from all other people to be my very own.H6918H3068H6918H914H5971 27"Men and women among you who act as mediums or who consult the spirits of the dead must be put to death by stoning. They are guilty of a capital offense."H376H802H3588H178H3049H4191H4191H7275H68H1818

36[For the choir director: A psalm of David, the servant of the LORD.] Sin whispers to the wicked, deep within their hearts. They have no fear of God at all.H5329H1732H5650H3068H6588H7563H5002H7130H3820H6343H430H5869 2In their blind conceit, they cannot see how wicked they really are.H2505H5869H5771H4672H8130 3Everything they say is crooked and deceitful. They refuse to act wisely or do good.H1697H6310H205H4820H2308H7919H3190 4They lie awake at night, hatching sinful plots. Their actions are never good. They make no attempt to turn from evil.H2803H205H4904H3320H1870H2896H3988H7451 5Your unfailing love, O LORD, is as vast as the heavens; your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds.H2617H3068H8064H530H7834 6Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the ocean depths. You care for people and animals alike, O LORD.H6666H410H2042H4941H7227H8415H3068H3467H120H929 7How precious is your unfailing love, O God! All humanity finds shelter in the shadow of your wings.H3368H2617H430H1121H120H2620H6738H3671 8You feed them from the abundance of your own house, letting them drink from your river of delights.H7301H1880H1004H8248H5158H5730 9For you are the fountain of life, the light by which we see.H4726H2416H216H7200H216 10Pour out your unfailing love on those who love you; give justice to those with honest hearts.H4900H2617H3045H6666H3477H3820 11Don't let the proud trample me or the wicked push me around.H7272H1346H935H3027H7563H5110 12Look! Those who do evil have fallen! They are thrown down, never to rise again.H6466H205H5307H1760H3201H6965
