32"Listen, O heavens, and I will speak! Hear, O earth, the words that I say!H238H8064H1696H8085H776H561H6310 2Let my teaching fall on you like rain; let my speech settle like dew. Let my words fall like rain on tender grass, like gentle showers on young plants.H3948H6201H4306H565H5140H2919H8164H1877H7241H6212 3I will proclaim the name of the LORD; how glorious is our God!H7121H8034H3068H3051H1433H430 4He is the Rock; his deeds are perfect. Everything he does is just and fair. He is a faithful God who does no wrong; how just and upright he is!H6697H6467H8549H1870H4941H410H530H5766H6662H3477 5"But they have acted corruptly toward him; when they act so perversely, are they really his children?c They are a deceitful and twisted generation.H7843H3971H1121H6141H6618H1755 6Is this the way you repay the LORD, you foolish and senseless people? Isn't he your Father who created you? Has he not made you and established you?H1580H3068H5036H5971H2450H1H7069H6213H3559 7Remember the days of long ago; think about the generations past. Ask your father, and he will inform you. Inquire of your elders, and they will tell you.H2142H3117H5769H995H8141H1755H1755H7592H1H5046H2205H559 8When the Most High assigned lands to the nations, when he divided up the human race, he established the boundaries of the peoples according to the number in his heavenly courtc.H5945H5157H1471H5157H6504H1121H120H5324H1367H5971H4557H1121H3478 9"For the people of Israel belong to the LORD; Jacob is his special possession.H3068H2506H5971H3290H2256H5159 10He found them in a desert land, in an empty, howling wasteland. He surrounded them and watched over them; he guarded them as he would guard his own eyesc.H4672H4057H776H8414H3214H3452H5437H995H5341H380H5869 11Like an eagle that rouses her chicks and hovers over her young, so he spread his wings to take them up and carried them safely on his pinions.H5404H5782H7064H7363H1469H6566H3671H3947H5375H84 12The LORD alone guided them; they followed no foreign gods.H3068H910H5148H5236H410 13He let them ride over the highlands and feast on the crops of the fields. He nourished them with honey from the rock and olive oil from the stony ground.H7392H1116H776H398H8570H7704H3243H1706H5553H8081H2496H6697 14He fed them yogurt from the herd and milk from the flock, together with the fat of lambs. He gave them choice rams from Bashan, and goats, together with the choicest wheat. You drank the finest wine, made from the juice of grapes.H2529H1241H2461H6629H2459H3733H352H1121H1316H6260H2459H3629H2406H8354H2561H1818H6025 15"But Israelc soon became fat and unruly; the people grew heavy, plump, and stuffed! Then they abandoned the God who had made them; they made light of the Rock of their salvation.H3484H8080H1163H8080H5666H3780H5203H433H6213H5034H6697H3444 16They stirred up his jealousy by worshiping foreign gods; they provoked his fury with detestable deeds.H7065H2114H8441H3707 17They offered sacrifices to demons, which are not God, to gods they had not known before, to new gods only recently arrived, to gods their ancestors had never feared.H2076H7700H433H430H3045H2319H935H7138H935H1H8175 18You neglected the Rock who had fathered you; you forgot the God who had given you birth.H6697H3205H7876H7911H410H2342 19"The LORD saw this and drew back, provoked to anger by his own sons and daughters.H3068H7200H5006H3708H1121H1323 20He said, 'I will abandon them; then see what becomes of them. For they are a twisted generation, children without integrity.H559H5641H6440H7200H319H8419H1755H1121H529 21They have roused my jealousy by worshiping things that are not God; they have provoked my anger with their useless idols. Now I will rouse their jealousy through people who are not even a people; I will provoke their anger through the foolish Gentiles.H7065H3808H410H3707H1892H7065H5971H3707H5036H1471 22For my anger blazes forth like fire and burns to the depths of the gravec. It devours the earth and all its crops and ignites the foundations of the mountains.H784H6919H639H3344H8482H7585H398H776H2981H3857H4144H2022 23I will heap disasters upon them and shoot them down with my arrows.H5595H7451H3615H2671 24I will weaken them with famine, burning fever, and deadly disease. I will send the fangs of wild beasts and poisonous snakes that glide in the dust.H4198H7458H3898H7565H4815H6986H7971H8127H929H2534H2119H6083 25Outside, the sword will bring death, and inside, terror will strike both young men and young women, both infants and the aged.H2719H2351H367H2315H7921H970H1330H3243H376H7872 26I would have annihilated them, wiping out even the memory of them.H559H6284H2143H7673H582 27But I feared the taunt of Israel's enemy, who might misunderstand and say, "Our own power has triumphed! The LORD had nothing to do with this!"'H3884H1481H3708H341H6862H5234H559H3027H7311H3068H6466 28"But Israel is a senseless nation; the people are foolish, without understanding.H1471H6H6098H8394 29Oh, that they were wise and could understand this! Oh, that they might know their fate!H3863H2449H7919H995H319 30How could one person chase a thousand of them, and two people put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, unless the LORD had given them up?H259H7291H505H8147H7233H505H5127H3808H6697H4376H3588H3068H5462 31But the rock of our enemies is not like our Rock, as even they recognizec.H6697H6697H341H6414 32Their vine grows from the vine of Sodom, from the vineyards of Gomorrah. Their grapes are poison, and their clusters are bitter.H1612H1612H5467H7709H6017H6025H6025H7219H811H4846 33Their wine is the venom of serpents, the deadly poison of cobras.H3196H2534H8577H393H7219H6620 34"The LORD says, 'Am I not storing up these things, sealing them away in my treasury?H3647H2856H214 35I will take revenge; I will pay them back. In due time their feet will slip. Their day of disaster will arrive, and their destiny will overtake them.'H5359H8005H7272H4131H6256H3117H343H7138H6264H2363 36"Indeed, the LORD will give justice to his people, and he will change his mind aboutc his servants, when he sees their strength is gone and no one is left, slave or free.H3068H1777H5971H5162H5650H7200H3027H235H657H6113H5800 37Then he will ask, 'Where are their gods, the rocks they fled to for refuge?H559H430H6697H2620 38Where now are those gods, who ate the fat of their sacrifices and drank the wine of their offerings? Let those gods arise and help you! Let them provide you with shelter!H398H2459H2077H8354H3196H5257H6965H5826H5643 39Look now; I myself am he! There is no other god but me! I am the one who kills and gives life; I am the one who wounds and heals; no one can be rescued from my powerful hand!H7200H430H4191H2421H4272H7495H5337H3027 40Now I raise my hand to heaven and declare, "As surely as I live,H5375H3027H8064H559H2416H5769 41when I sharpen my flashing sword and begin to carry out justice, I will take revenge on my enemies and repay those who reject me.H8150H1300H2719H3027H270H4941H7725H5359H6862H7999H8130 42I will make my arrows drunk with blood, and my sword will devour flesh—the blood of the slaughtered and the captives, and the heads of the enemy leaders."'H2671H7937H1818H2719H398H1320H1818H2491H7633H7218H6546H341 43"Rejoice with him, you heavens, and let all of God's angels worship himc. Rejoice with his people, you nations, and let all the angels be strengthened in him. For he will avenge the blood of his servants; he will take revenge against his enemies. He will repay those who hate him and cleanse the land for his people."H7442H1471H5971H5358H1818H5650H7725H5359H6862H3722H127H5971 44So Moses came with Joshuac son of Nun and recited all the words of this song to the people.H4872H935H1696H1697H7892H241H5971H1954H1121H5126 45When Moses had finished reciting all these words to the people of Israel,H4872H3615H1696H1697H3478 46he added: "Take to heart all the words of warning I have given you today. Pass them on as a command to your children so they will obey every word of these instructions.H559H7760H3824H1697H5749H3117H6680H1121H8104H6213H1697H8451 47These instructions are not empty words—they are your life! By obeying them you will enjoy a long life in the land you will occupy when you cross the Jordan River."H7386H1697H2416H1697H748H3117H127H5674H3383H3423

Moses’ Death Foretold

48That same day the LORD said to Moses,H3068H1696H4872H6106H3117H559 49"Go to Moab, to the mountains east of the riverc, and climb Mount Nebo, which is across from Jericho. Look out across the land of Canaan, the land I am giving to the people of Israel as their own special possession.H5927H2022H5682H2022H5015H776H4124H6440H3405H7200H776H3667H5414H1121H3478H272 50Then you will die there on the mountain. You will join your ancestors, just as Aaron, your brother, died on Mount Hor and joined his ancestors.H4191H2022H5927H622H5971H175H251H4191H2022H2023H622H5971 51For both of you betrayed me with the Israelites at the waters of Meribah at Kadeshc in the wilderness of Zin. You failed to demonstrate my holiness to the people of Israel there.H4603H8432H1121H3478H4325H4808H6946H4057H6790H6942H8432H1121H3478 52So you will see the land from a distance, but you may not enter the land I am giving to the people of Israel."H7200H776H935H776H5414H1121H3478

Moses Blesses the People

33This is the blessing that Moses, the man of God, gave to the people of Israel before his death.H1293H4872H376H430H1288H1121H3478H6440H4194 2"The LORD came from Mount Sinai and dawned upon usc from Mount Seir; he shone forth from Mount Paran and came from Meribah-kadesh with flaming fire at his right hand.H559H3068H935H5514H2224H8165H3313H2022H6290H857H7233H6944H3225H799H784H1881 3Indeed, he loves his peoplec; all his holy ones are in his hands. They follow in his steps and accept his teaching.H637H2245H5971H6918H3027H8497H7272H5375H1703 4Moses gave us the LORD's instruction, the special possession of the people of Israelc.H4872H6680H8451H4181H6952H3290 5The LORD became king in Israelc—when the leaders of the people assembled, when the tribes of Israel gathered as one."H4428H3484H7218H5971H7626H3478H622H3162 6Moses said this about the tribe of Reuben.c "Let the tribe of Reuben live and not die out, though they are few in number."H7205H2421H4191H4962H4557 7Moses said this about the tribe of Judah: "O LORD, hear the cry of Judah and bring them together as a people. Give them strength to defend their cause; help them against their enemies!"H3063H559H8085H3068H6963H3063H935H5971H3027H7227H5828H6862 8Moses said this about the tribe of Levi: "O LORD, you have given your Thummim and Urim—the sacred lots—to your faithful servants the Levitesc. You put them to the test at Massah and struggled with them at the waters of Meribah.H3878H559H8550H224H2623H376H5254H4532H7378H4325H4809 9The Levites obeyed your word and guarded your covenant. They were more loyal to you than to their own parents. They ignored their relatives and did not acknowledge their own children.H559H1H517H7200H5234H251H3045H1121H8104H565H5341H1285 10They teach your regulations to Jacob; they give your instructions to Israel. They present incense before you and offer whole burnt offerings on the altar.H3384H3290H4941H3478H8451H7760H6988H639H3632H4196 11Bless the ministry of the Levites, O LORD, and accept all the work of their hands. Hit their enemies where it hurts the most; strike down their foes so they never rise again."H1288H3068H2428H7521H6467H3027H4272H4975H6965H8130H6965H4480H6965 12Moses said this about the tribe of Benjamin: "The people of Benjamin are loved by the LORD and live in safety beside him. He surrounds them continuously and preserves them from every harm."H1144H559H3039H3068H7931H983H2653H3117H7931H3802 13Moses said this about the tribes of Joseph: "May their land be blessed by the LORD with the precious gift of dew from the heavens and water from beneath the earth;H3130H559H1288H3068H776H4022H8064H2919H8415H7257 14with the rich fruit that grows in the sun, and the rich harvest produced each month;H4022H8393H8121H4022H1645H3391 15with the finest crops of the ancient mountains, and the abundance from the everlasting hills;H7218H6924H2042H4022H5769H1389 16with the best gifts of the earth and its bounty, and the favor of the one who appeared in the burning bush. May these blessings rest on Joseph's head, crowning the brow of the prince among his brothers.H4022H776H4393H7522H7931H5572H935H7218H3130H6936H5139H251 17Joseph has the majesty of a young bull; he has the horns of a wild ox. He will gore distant nations, driving them to the ends of the earth. This is my blessing for the multitudes of Ephraim and the thousands of Manasseh."H1926H1060H7794H7161H7161H7214H5055H5971H3162H657H776H7233H669H505H4519 18Moses said this about the tribes of Zebulun and Issacharc: "May the people of Zebulun prosper in their travels. May the people of Issachar prosper at home in their tents.H2074H559H8055H2074H3318H3485H168 19They summon the people to the mountain to offer proper sacrifices there. They benefit from the riches of the sea and the hidden treasures in the sand."H7121H5971H2022H2076H2077H6664H3243H8228H3220H8226H2934H2344 20Moses said this about the tribe of Gad: "Blessed is the one who enlarges Gad's territory! Gad is poised there like a lion to tear off an arm or a head.H1410H559H1288H7337H1410H7931H3833H2963H2220H637H6936 21The people of Gad took the best land for themselves; a leader's share was assigned to them. When the leaders of the people were assembled, they carried out the LORD's justice and obeyed his regulations for Israel."H7200H7225H2513H2710H5603H857H7218H5971H6213H6666H3068H4941H3478 22Moses said this about the tribe of Dan: "Dan is a lion's cub, leaping out from Bashan."H1835H559H1835H738H1482H2187H1316 23Moses said this about the tribe of Naphtali: "O Naphtali, you are rich in favor and full of the LORD's blessings; may you possess the west and the south."H5321H559H5321H7649H7522H4392H1293H3068H3423H3220H1864 24Moses said this about the tribe of Asher: "May Asher be blessed above other sons; may he be esteemed by his brothers; may he bathe his feet in olive oil.H836H559H836H1288H1121H7521H251H2881H7272H8081 25May the bolts of your gates be of iron and bronze; may you be secure all your days."H4515H1270H5178H3117H1679 26"There is no one like the God of Israelc. He rides across the heavens to help you, across the skies in majestic splendor.H410H3484H7392H8064H5828H1346H7834 27The eternal God is your refuge, and his everlasting arms are under you. He drives out the enemy before you; he cries out, 'Destroy them!'H6924H430H4585H5769H2220H1644H341H6440H559H8045 28So Israel will live in safety, prosperous Jacob in security, in a land of grain and new wine, while the heavens drop down dew.H3478H7931H983H910H5869H3290H776H1715H8492H8064H6201H2919 29How blessed you are, O Israel! Who else is like you, a people saved by the LORD? He is your protecting shield and your triumphant sword! Your enemies will cringe before you, and you will stomp on their backs!"H835H3478H5971H3467H3068H4043H5828H2719H1346H341H3584H1869H1116

The Death of Moses

34Then Moses went up to Mount Nebo from the plains of Moab and climbed Pisgah Peak, which is across from Jericho. And the LORD showed him the whole land, from Gilead as far as Dan;H4872H5927H6160H4124H2022H5015H7218H6449H6440H3405H3068H7200H776H1568H1835
2all the land of Naphtali; the land of Ephraim and Manasseh; all the land of Judah, extending to the Mediterranean Seac;H5321H776H669H4519H776H3063H314H3220
3the Negev; the Jordan Valley with Jericho—the city of palms—as far as Zoar.H5045H3603H1237H3405H5892H8558H5899H6820
4Then the LORD said to Moses, "This is the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob when I said, 'I will give it to your descendants.' I have now allowed you to see it with your own eyes, but you will not enter the land."H3068H559H776H7650H85H3327H3290H559H5414H2233H7200H5869H5674
5So Moses, the servant of the LORD, died there in the land of Moab, just as the LORD had said.H4872H5650H3068H4191H776H4124H6310H3068
6The LORD buried himc in a valley near Beth-peor in Moab, but to this day no one knows the exact place.H6912H1516H776H4124H4136H1047H376H3045H6900H3117
7Moses was 120 years old when he died, yet his eyesight was clear, and he was as strong as ever.H4872H3967H6242H8141H1121H4194H5869H3543H3893H5127
8The people of Israel mourned for Moses on the plains of Moab for thirty days, until the customary period of mourning was over.H1121H3478H1058H4872H6160H4124H7970H3117H3117H1065H60H4872H8552
9Now Joshua son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on him. So the people of Israel obeyed him, doing just as the LORD had commanded Moses.H3091H1121H5126H4392H7307H2451H4872H5564H3027H1121H3478H8085H6213H3068H6680H4872
10There has never been another prophet in Israel like Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face.H6965H5030H5750H3478H4872H3068H3045H6440H6440
11The LORD sent him to perform all the miraculous signs and wonders in the land of Egypt against Pharaoh, and all his servants, and his entire land.H226H4159H3068H7971H6213H776H4714H6547H5650H776
12With mighty power, Moses performed terrifying acts in the sight of all Israel.H2389H3027H1419H4172H4872H6213H5869H3478

64[For the choir director: A psalm of David.] O God, listen to my complaint. Protect my life from my enemies’ threats.H5329H4210H1732H8085H6963H430H7879H5341H2416H6343H341 2Hide me from the plots of this evil mob, from this gang of wrongdoers.H5641H5475H7489H7285H6466H205 3They sharpen their tongues like swords and aim their bitter words like arrows.H8150H3956H2719H1869H2671H4751H1697 4They shoot from ambush at the innocent, attacking suddenly and fearlessly.H3384H4565H8535H6597H3384H3372 5They encourage each other to do evil and plan how to set their traps in secret. “Who will ever notice?” they ask.H2388H7451H1697H5608H2934H4170H2934H559H7200 6As they plot their crimes, they say, “We have devised the perfect plan!” Yes, the human heart and mind are cunning.H2664H5766H8552H2664H2665H7130H376H3820H6013 7But God himself will shoot them with his arrows, suddenly striking them down.H430H3384H2671H6597H4347 8Their own tongues will ruin them, and all who see them will shake their heads in scorn.H3956H3782H7200H5074 9Then everyone will be afraid; they will proclaim the mighty acts of God and realize all the amazing things he does.H120H3372H5046H6467H430H7919H4639 10The godly will rejoice in the Lord and find shelter in him. And those who do what is right will praise him.H6662H8055H3068H2620H3477H3820H1984
