JOSEPH, PRAYER OF

A Jewish work, apparently dating from the early Christian era. About the same length as the Wisdom of Solomon, it survives only in fragments preserved within the writings of the 3rd-century church father Origen. The few sentences which survive quote Jacob, who purports to have pre-existed as an angelic figure named Israel, one of the most powerful of the creations of God. Jacob reveals, apparently to Joseph, that his famous struggle at Penuel (Gen. 32) was actually against another angelic figure named Uriel, whom he vanquished by calling upon a very special, but unspecified, name of God. The Prayer of Joseph apparently had little impact on later Jewish literature.

Prayer Tents is a Christian mission organization that serves Christians around the world and their local bodies to make disciples ("evangelize") more effectively in their communities. Prayer Tents provides resources to enable Christians to form discipleship-focused small groups and make their gatherings known so that other "interested" people may participate and experience Christ in their midst. Our Vision is to make disciples in all nations through the local churches so that anyone seeking God can come to know Him through relationships with other Christians near them.
